Everything is fine. I've been traveling for work again and also in the process of upgrading the cameras again to try and fix the sound and video issues I am having.
Todd reminds me so much of my baby Magenta. Except she isn't a big brain like Todd lol. She truly isn't that bright and is the clutziest cat there ever was. She fell over while sitting still the other day. 🙄. But I love her so much and she loves me and follows me around like a puppy and demands cuddles all the time. Which I'm happy to oblige! Watching Todd just confirms I'm not just projecting my feelings on her. He shows us that cats are a thoughtful, sensitive, and loving species.
@@TheChroniclesofToddToddTalksshe truly isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, which is totally aside from her klutziness (the vet thinks she is fine, we are watching her but so far it doesn't seem to be medical) . Just not a very sharp one. Lol
I love the name 'Glamour'. I've noticed that it's spelled the British way, using 'our', instead of just 'or'. I've wondered if that's because Mom or Dad are knowledgeable about old English/Celtic history and words. "Glamour" was first used way back in the mists of history during the "Lady in the Lake"/"King Arthur" time period by the Celts. "Glamour" was used by the Celts, and more specifically, by the women considered to be fluent in the use of magic, as a method of disguising their true selves and looks. They would put a "Glamour" over themselves. A kind of limited time "blurring" of their true selves, like Cinderella turning into a beautiful, mysterious woman until midnight, when her coach would become a pumpkin again, and she would be dressed in her "cinder" rags. Of course, our Glamour is always beautiful, never losing her "glamour."
Unfortunately, no. All the cats' names were given to them at the shelter, and we kept them. The shelter gives every animal a unique name for their records.
@@TheChroniclesofToddToddTalks Neat. Still a great name though! It always reminds me of a series of books I read about a woman and her daughters who were all healers in the time of the Celts, and involved in magic. Thank you for sharing Todd and Glamour's lives with us. Todd is my favorite talking cat on the internet. I have a half Maine Coon cat named Tildy. I've been trying to decide whether to teach her to use talking buttons or not. She's already very vocal and uses "tones" in her meows to express her emotions and wants. She mimics my tones. She will almost actually say things, like if I tell her "No, later" to something she wants, she says,"Oh, maan" because I have a habit of saying that when things go wrong. If I say, "Not right now" to her request for can food (I always have dry food out for her to snack on), she will start "baby crying" and whining. It sounds like when a little kid of around four y/o is just starting to cry, like "Uh, Uh" breath intake, "Ohh, Waaaa." It's the most pitiful sound you've ever heard and it gets me everytime. She knows I will jump up and give her anything when she does that. I can't imagine where she picked that up, because in my family, at least (she was abandoned at some apartments across the street from me), she's never been around little kids. If I taught her to use talking buttons, all I would get all day would be "food", "pets", "cuddles", and "mad." Thanks for replying! ☺️😸
I love that we can hear his purr so loudly, and the level your voice was recorded shows us that the microphone is somewhat remote. That's a fantastic loud purr, it's great! It must be so wonderful to hug him and put your ear against that purr. Question (and I know I have probably missed this in earlier videos, I just have not had time to view them): Has Glamour just shown no interest in the buttons? Or does she consider them Todd's and leave them alone? ...or does she just yell a lot because she is a calico and expect you to understand her because calico? (That's what my oldest does)
Glamour and Paulie have shown no interest in the buttons. The buttons are everyones and Rodd doea not mind the other cats on them. He just does not like toy or other objects on the board. Glamour would not care if they were Todd's or not, Glamour does what Glamour wants.
They've stalled me so long now on the surgery that a second large incisional hernia has come out below the first one, both about grapefruit sized. I'm scared. Not of the surgery. Of getting very ill before the surgery is done. WHY, T R I C A R E, why? Thanks for the cheerfulness of Todd and his happy home.
That must be the most adorable and precious thing I've seen today. My own cats are affectionate and love me dearly (especially my 8-year-old female, who is like my body part because she just needs to be close to me or lay on me) but actually hearing them say it makes it a lot cuter. A question as well - I've been thinking about giving my male cat a "Love you" button but I don't know how to model it for him to make sure he understands what it means. Can you give any advice from your experience in modeling it to Todd?
Great question. If you haveseen the way Todd looks at me during brushings or cuddles, you can absolutely tell he is expressing love, and I will say it then. Also, anytime we are having g a bonding moment, I will say it. I also would say it when I am expressing it. I get home from work and pick him up for a big hug, I hold him close and tell him I live him.
All of the kitties are from the same shelter adopted several years apart. Glamour was the first, adopted as a 3 month old kitten. I was looking for a cuddle cat like Todd. I spent the entire day in the kitten room getting to know the kittens there. Glamour was the one that anytime I picked her up she would snuggle into my arms purr, give me kisses and even sleep in my arms. I chose her. That was the last time I ever held her voluntarily, lol. She was smart and knew what she was doing. Glamour hate to be held period and you have to ask to even touch her. I do love her very much, she has more Cattitude than any cat I have ever had. Paulie was a very shy quiet kitty and my wife and I fell in love with him. We are pretty sure he was abused before he came to us around a year old. You can not approach him with anything in your hand or wearing shoes. If you are sitting he is all over you getting pets and belly rubs. We did not want or were looking for another cat when Todd adopted me. I had gone to meet my mother at the shelter with my wife to her pick out a cat. When we walked into Todd's room it took all of 20 seconds before he ran to me demanding I pick him up and hold him. I did and said here is a friendly one and gave him to my mom. He let her hold him about 10 seconds then squirmed his way down and ran back to me. I picked him up and held him a bit them passed him to my wife so I could help mom look at other kittens. He did the same thing and ran back to me. You could see it in his eyes, he was saying you are mine. The shelter working cam in to see how we were doing and I told her about Todd. She said he was newer and didn't know much about him but she had not heard of him doing this with anyone else. I looked at my wife and said I think I have been adopted. She agreed and we have been together ever since.
@@TheChroniclesofToddToddTalksSo Glamour conned you, Paulie was reserved; and Todd said, I adopt you 😄 And did you give them their names as well? Any special meaning behind them?
I really don't understand how people can still say that the cats are just pushing whatever button that will get them a reaction or a treat, and then use an example that's not suitable to represent successful cases. He is pushing buttons that are entirely selfless and without any sort of prize. Now do some people train the cats in a way where it becomes a "give treat" system? Yes, just like how my mother destroyed my dog's love for hugs from the beginning, and began demanding payment by giving him a treat every time, that ruined it, she wouldn't stop, she truly thought she had taught him how to hug. It is the same with cats, or even children, you can have a bad method that turns something toxic very easily. You're clearly showing him how to speak for the sake of communicating in a non-toxic and not forced way, you're even developing a personalized language between you, and he's definitely communicating, pretty precisely too! He can even give information that you wouldn't otherwise discover. You're a good cat dad.
You said good morning and I love you to Todd and when you went and talked to Glamor it looked like Todd was waiting for you to say I love you to her too than when you didn't he went to the button watch it again seriously check it out 😉☺️
When Todd started adopting the buttons for communication, did he stop using as much body language, or did the body language remain? For example, my cats have each adopted specific ways to communicate "I love you". One cat, for example, will walk up to as close to my face as possible and reach out to give me a couple of licks on the nose. It is the only time he ever licks, and he goes way out of his way to do it, at times when something has happened that made him particularly happy (like an extra long time playing with his favorite toy, or being given a treat off my plate). Another cat, gives extra strong head butts immediately under my chin, until I look up enough for him to nuzzle into my neck. He also does it during especially special times as well as every night right before he moves himself into the sleeping spot he is going to adopt for the night. Does Todd have similar ways to communicate love and other concepts using "cat language", or has his use of button-speech elimated his need to communicate using body language?
Todd and I have a full range of communication with and without the buttons. Todd still fully communicates with me away from the buttons when we are downstairs. As far as the love you goes, yes, he comes up to me and gives me big slobbery kisses and very loud purrs along with slow blinks.
Do you mean about treatment and going to the vet? Todd wanted help for Glamour, so that she could feel better, so when he sees that she's feeling better, is that not what he wanted? That's how I see it. Simplicity doesn't need details. On another channel, the dog 'Bunny' takes medicine and has that word on her word-board, and uses it, even reminding her person when it was forgotten, but details beyond that would likely be too much.
@@cacatr4495 I mean smething like "Dad go see Glamour back happy, Dad Todd cuddle soon" (or something more naturally human, like "I'm just making sure Glamour is ok, I'll be right back and we can cuddle)-because I'm pretty sure Todd understands a lot of natural speech too).
Is it possible that he has come to associate "love you" with general affection? That might explain why when you're about to leave for a trip he pushes "no" and then "love you." He isn't suggesting he doesn't love you but that you won't be available for general affection. Just a thought. I have noticed with my own cats that whether I touch them after or not, they like being told that I love them, so maybe Todd really does associate it with love and not just some action.
For whatever it's worth, I think they understand the difference between affection (an expression of love) and heart-bonding (love), as my dogs did, I believe Todd does too. I believe they are much smarter than mankind has believed.
