As an owner of a 16 2021 Bambi I would say the only upgrades worth the price are the inverter (I had a 1000 watt one put into mine), the stove hood and the rear bumper for extra storage. And go solar with the new Lithium Battle Born batteries as well if you want to go longer boondocking. If you want to be a big baller in a small camper, sure go with the Caravel if price and GVMR is not a problem. If you want something you can easily tow, the Bambi is awesome and handles well on the road. Either way, for a couple or a small family, both are a great choice for getting away.
Thank you! This was more informative than some dealers that I'm visiting. I wish you would do an updated one to see if it changed with the new models I'm looking at.
niceeee..... come on Airstream, give a brand new RV (of choice) to this nice couple for free, in exchange for their reviews and free advertisement!!!! Awesome review and video!!!
Thank you for doing this video! I love that you live an airstream today. It's so much more interesting to have you do the videos than a sales guy. thanks again!
Thanks U2. Great job explaining the features of both. I'm looking to tow one of these behind my new Rivian R1T. Continued success in the new 2022 year.
Love the sliding blackout curtains in the trailers that are connected via top and bottom tracks, rather than the pull-down roller style. Those roller shades can be a bit finicky and do eventually wear out. Wish the sliding curtains were available in class B motor homes.
Totally agree! We really like the blackout curtains we put in our van bedroom and it is nice to slide them open and closed! Really love the wrap around windows front and rear in the Airstream trailers!
The inverter is awesome for a full timer! and the wrap around windows in the bedroom are a huge bonus in my opinion. I would think the air conditioning would be huge as well. That all is enough to convince me to want the caravel more. I hate the linoleum color but I think that can be changed?
We are looking at the 20' Caravel -- 2 Adults and 2 dogs for extended trips (3-4 months). ;) The Bambi is too much like what we already have but with an Airstream logo. Not luxurious enough. LOL Great teamwork and review!
Upgrades are worth it but not for 12K lol yet I get it its Airstream. We like nice things and almost went with a 23 Flying Cloud but wife fell in love with the Grand Design XLS 22mle and the difference we could purchase outright were as with an AST we were into a note lol and yes their awesome.
Thanks! How do you think storage & layout of a short trailer compare to your interstate? If the living area of an interstate was a trailer, how long would it be
The living space of our van is about 16 feet long, but the trailers are 8 feet wide, so the trailer feels a little bigger. Also has the outside storage, plus the tow vehicle. When we looked at every trailer length, we determined we'd want the 23 to 25 foot for it to be a big enough change from our van. Sure would be easy to tow a 16 though!
@@IreneIronTravels thanks for the insight - as we look at rvs, I'm always curious as to the relative size diff of B or C vs towable. As a full-timer, do you think the convenience of being able to use the tow vehicle when the trailer is parked (vs drive the B) is worth the trade off of a larger, longer tow setup, of do you not move enough to have the relative benefit of a smaller setup matter?
That is a tough comparison as they both have their pros and cons. The true class B we are in is probably the easiest and most convenient for face paced travel and being able to go the most places without much worry at all. Big cities, National Parks, Campgrounds, boondocking, etc. Not much need to plan as we can stay/ sleep most places and have all the convivences of motorhome, just in a smaller package. But we give up living space, tank sizes, and convivence of a second vehicle. (always have to break camp to go somewhere) A truck and small trailer(22-25feet) would be what we would switch to as we slow down our travel. We will have to plan more, but we will be able to boondock for 2 weeks instead of 1 week and we will enjoy the different style of having a truck to explore local areas more. The living space between a 22ft van and a 25ft trailer are night and day in our opinion, permanent walkaround bed, separate bath and shower, perm table/dinette, and separate couch, outside storage, more room for solar, etc...
Great review guys! I personally don’t see the value add of the Caravel over the Bambi especially since your paying an additional $12,000 and adding 800lbs of tow weight, which might mean needing to upgrade your vehicle (another expense). If Airstream allows customers to choose upgrades to the Bambi, I would go for the inverter and rear wrap around windows. Everything else adds to much weight and cost in my opinion and is just not necessary. Thanks for sharing! ❤
Had the Bambi 16' and the 23D. As I have said before, I loved the airstream for the amount of light that is let in and how comfortable the unit is. Maybe one day in the future....
You’ve made it to my rig! Or at least a successor to it - we have a 2018 16’ Sport which is basically the 2021 Bambi with leather seats and the microwave is mounted under the upper kitchen cabinet, which gives a full second drawer for storage. I have been puzzled as to why Airstream put the microwave in the cabinet when the space that was freed up was windowless, so it doesn’t make it that much more open feeling, IMO. Between the two similar options you just toured I’d still take the Bambi over the Caravel, mostly because of the the lower weight and the gas range in the Caravel is a space waster. The Dometic cooktop in the Bambi sits flush on the counter, which makes for the only counter space in the kitchen. The gas grates, while lovely, take that away. The little inconveniences like the hand crank jack have never been an issue for us. I do wish the back window was larger for more cross breeze, but other Sport owners we’ve known have had the back exit window modified to be both an exit and full screen, which would be great. The one thing I wish we had was the rock guard in front, but that does add tongue weight, so I’m not sure if our SUV TV could handle it. Not being full timers the lack of inverter doesn’t bother us, but we do bring generators when Boondocking so that hasn’t been an issue for us. We run them for an hour or so in the morning to recharge the lead acid battery and at the same time we use any AC appliances. We do have a 90w Zamp portable solar panel (prewired) that keeps us topped off during the day for pump, fridge (Dometic 2-way w/propane) and USB use. Compared to your Interstate I prefer the combined black/grey tank in a small rig - really maximizes space!
Nice! We should have consulted you before we toured them😂 Good point on the stovetop and space, we feel the same with our flip-up sink and stoves. Would be nice to have residential styles, but can't lose the counter space. The wrap-around windows and the ducted ac were probably the two biggest differences we felt. Thanks for watching Rachael! 😃
Always happy to watch a new vid from you. I was thinking if it would be possible in your own rig to elevate the rear couch to create more storage underneath ??? I dont see you in these 2 small trailers because of the size of the kitchen, really too tiny for Chris's skills. Wish you a good day friends
Hello! Yes, these are definitely too small for us, if we were to change our rig. I'm not sure how tough it would be to elevate our bed, but we have seen some can builds that have that and they can store bikes underneath! Crazy. Take care!
Wow sure are beautiful Air Streams !!! Showing the two differences style and explaining what they both have was well put in your explanation. You two are amazing when you explain a certain product. Great ambassador for Airstream . Maybe as time moves on you two might pick up a travel trailer from Airstream. Thank you for taking the time to explain and to make this fantastic video. I hope they will give a great price on one when you are ready to try something different. BS & BK
Nice informative video! Do you feel everything is still Airstream quality inside , or is it more just cloth vs. leather differences? Enjoy and be safe out there. 😎
Thanks, John! The bones of the Bambi still felt quality, but you could definitely feel the upgrade right away with the Caravel. I would say of it is within one's budget the Cavavel gives you much tinglier feelings!😂
Great show as always. We had a 2015 Bambi which we liked overall for its quality but being a portly fellow the wet bath and bed were too small - an expensive mistake. Thanks for watching! Someone else mentioned the microwave was higher in the older Sport units, but now it's moved down. We also upgraded our toilet to a porcelain one and love it! Slow close is a must too!😁
Are you guys looking at my analytics? I’ve been looking at information between these two for the longest. Where whatever I have an interest in you guys will do a video about that topic almost a week later. I’m waiting on you to do one regarding compost 😂 j/k.
I wonder how difficult it would be to tow one of these around for someone new to travel trailers. My current SUV can tow up to 5000lbs, but I would be terrified of of making turns and backing up with one of these things hitched to it.
Keep in mind that technically your tow weight includes the cargo in your vehicle. Some recommend about 1000 lbs buffer between the full weight of the trailer and your max tow weight. The Airstream because of the way it's built is supposed to keep most of the weight low to the ground making it less likely to sway. Everyone has trepidation towing and backing up any trailer with a partner is comical afterwards but may have a lot of swearing during...
Airstream 19, pleasure way ascent, winnabago boldt, America coach patriot, coachman beyond. Can you tell I’ve been looking? Interested to get your thoughts on these having lived in 23 feet. My wife and I are hikers and we think a class B is great to get away for a few weeks at a time, and also fit in parking spots on trail heads.
Shopping is the fun part! 19 is for sure on our list and we'll try to find some of the others as well. We like PW and Coachmen, but haven't seen an American Patriot yet. Heard they are nice! I think 19 feet is perfect for a couple only using it part time. You'll love the ease of driving and parking for sure, but if looking to boondock for more than a weekend it would get tough for tank size and space.
Nice video! I like both trailers but Airstream as usual has made questionable design decisions. First, why roller or sliding doors for the cabinets instead of the usual hinged wooden doors? Why not put in a single piece wet bath instead of the half wet bath that requires a silly curtain and a window that you will almost always have down anyway? And worst of all, why not put the dinette/lounge in the back and the bed in the front so that you can have the best view when backing into a space and you don't need the rock guards since it faces the rear? Of course, really Airstream should have put panoramic windows on both ends, which would probably cut down on the weight too.
This video was badly done (sorry) but a lot of the information / comparison was inaccurate in descriptions. It did not allow for potential customers to get an 'accurate' comparison. You could of mentioned that a lot of the items seen as 'upgrades' on the Caravel, could be added after market on the Bambi - this is a good idea for customers that want a light interior (Bambi) vs darker interior (Caravel) they coudl add options that they need after market, and certainly not at the difference of cost $12,000. The Caravel has leather like (not leather) cushions.
Hello, thanks for watching! Of course one could upgrade their trailer via the aftermarket route, but this video was about the factory differences between the Bambi and Caravel. It would not be cheap or easy to add on wrap-around windows in the rear or the ducted AC/heat.

You'll love the ease of driving and parking for sure, but if looking to boondock for more than a weekend it would get tough for tank size and space.
Thanks, keep the vids coming! You’re the only ones that I’ve seen diving into the “sensitive” subjects. Those details are what I’m looking for.
Can you pull an Airstream trailer with your Airstream motor home?
Yes! The Interstate can tow 5,000 lbs which is enough for any of the single axles Airstream trailers!
@@IreneIronTravels Great idea if you have too many people to fit into the motor home.
This comment made me think about hauling a small toy hauler style trailer outfitted as a small gym.
That would be pretty sweet!
JVC deck, not bad, cheap, but not bad - they have good performance. So many trailers use Jensen (utter garbage).
Thanks! Those are all valid points! Appreciate you watching!
I don't think you get to use the words "entry level" and $51k in the same sentence...
That’s not a farm style sink in the Caravelle. Farm style has an apron
Are you guys shopping for a travel trailer or just providing a review? :o)
Just doing a review on these ones, but we like to see what's out there...... you never know! 😁
Airstream = Faraday cage on wheels :-)
🤣
Will survive a nuke
Wet baths are just nasty.
They actually named it Bambi? 😅😂
They did! Cute eh 🤣😅
Irene, you have more shoulders and more biceps than me. Very feminine, from the 21st century.
I hate the bathrooms in airstream so much money and people that are ove 6 feet are out of luck.
They are small! They do get a bit better with the bigger trailers and the separate shower and bathroom though.
👍👍
😀😄
Why aren't you wearing a mask when you're there?
