Dredg really reminds me of Tool. Although another direction and style than Tool, but their mentality. They are both unique in their music, they go against the mainstream and walk their own paths, they put the music first and not their image. Love to Dredg and Tool.
I just can't wait to see them live again!! I'm a huge fan of El Cielo, probably my favourite Dredg album, but I agree with hefner. They have so much to express, their music just can't stop evolving.
Yes! I totally agree. " His actions a gift for a God without a name." I was actaully going to write this in a post but you beat me to it. BTW great job on the lyrics mh9526, and psychopomp88, even though I have a small discrepancy.
I can't wait for their next album. I remember when Catch Without Arms came out I didn't like it at first, but after listening to it over again and again in the car it grew on me. I wish that I had the chance to see them when they had come to Toronto.
TPTPTD was the first album of Dredg that I heard and it´s simply amazing. I look forward to hear the older albums, hopefully they will be as good as this one.
I like the new stuff but i agree El Cielo changed my life. I really hope this one will too. They were amazing live in Tulsa, didnt play Sanzen but they opened with Triangle. awesome.
Okay now that I thought about it... I think the protagonist is spending the night listening to another person's (probably a lover) problems (maybe some sex afterwards but that's just interpreting a bit further^^). Those problems are harmful to him though as they add to his "confusion" & "frustration". He's taking them into him like a "sponge". It seems almost like he's addicted telling himself to stop it, that "it's the last time" and he "doesn't need it." BTW Great song. Best of the new ones.
I don't know what this band has. But they definitely have "it" I won't be surprised if they blow up after their new album comes out. I mean, these songs are amazing. Catch without arms was awesome and it sounds like their next album is going to be even better, which I didn't think was possible.
I think they are doing what many other bands have done, go "a little" more mainstream to build the fan base and spark interest in the really creative work? I just recently discovered Dredg, have all the albums and as an artist appreciate the hell out of them! Would never compare them with the Killers!
I really like this song, hopefully it makes it on the upcoming album. Though I do still kinda wish they stayed along a similar path to the one they were on during El Cielo.
Gavin is an amazing singer. Seriously, who cares if he is slightly off key during live performances? At least you know he's not using auto tune as so many so called "artists" these days do.
Hey Acid Milk Tree, just because he doesnt sing about Wizards and Dragons dosent mean his lyrics suck or that you have to like it. He is one of the best song writers ever.
Sell out? If anything they tore apart any progress they made. As far as chemistry, if you knew Dredg you would know, they all are very different, they do their own thing, and it comes out amazing. That doesn't mean they don't have chemistry.
Well I think your right, they just look like artists, I mean they look like people who just care about doing their music btw: I'm gonna see them saturday night!!!! (concerts are way better at night, it's a pity they always have to play in the afternoon at festivals)
Part of what is so great about Dredg is that they don't look like Rock Stars. That is to say, they don't look like slobs either. But that it doesn't seem like they spent 2 hours getting ready. It kinda turns me off to a band when you can clearly see that their image is more important than their music.
dredg is not new by any means. they were signed in 2001. I saw them the first time in 1998. This song is closer to pop music than anything they've ever written, and no, it's not comparable to their earlier stuff either in terms of sheer creative force and originality (that's hard to reproduce). Still, the overall theme of the song is NOT about how sorry they feel for themselves. mh9526 said it best, don't judge until the album's out.
Yeah the band is evolving & why would they keep making the same album over and over again. I like all the new songs just like the past stuff and ORPH too! SIK!
yeah i know. I agree this will probably be a concept album. Going for the verses I agree that this could easily be about jesus. Lines like "Cause I can absorb your sorrows, I'm the one" or "With an anticipation no man could bear" fit quite well... I just don't see how the chorus fits to that.
@ManoDeRevolucion in the early days (if you watch the via overdrive videos) he's pretty overweight, then in the catch without arms days he's really thin. i saw them a few days ago and he was pretty average looking.
hey could anyone please post the lyrics of this song or tell me if they're available on the net? I'm trying but I can only catch half of the text. thanks.
Can please someone explain the refrain to me? *confused* I lthink I understood the lyrics, but only without the refrain it semms to make sense....... help!
I wouldnt say theyre a bad live band. They just have some bad days and thats all. It happens to all musicians. Anyways, its practically impossible that they come to peru, so, I am fine enjoying their studio sound :D
forgetting the lyrics has nothing to do with talent. you remember the sequences of words not every word individually, which is why if you forget the first word of a verse you might forget the entire verse. Gavin is an AMAZING lyricist and writes some awesome vocal melodies. If what he does isn't talent, I really don't know what is. and gavin is an amazing lyrici
I can't stand when people comment on how "lame" a crowd is -.- If I was at a show, i'd want to watch the band, not jump up and down and go crazy. The point of going to a live show is to watch a band.
Gavin is frequently off key with his singing. Not terribly so, but enough for a musician with a good ear to notice. There are plenty of examples in this video. 2:58 is one place. Even on the live at the filmore album, which is quite well produced, you hear it.
I don't know, if all the lyrics (especially verse 1 & 2) fit with the interpretation "last day of a suicide bomber".... what makes me wonder, is, what between the verses this "little more information" should be, and how it could "add to the frustration / confusion"...???
Dino should be going straight on 4/4 backbeat during the instrumental part and doing more half time stuff in the verses - I also don't like the 2H 16th notes on the hi-hat during the chorus - but don't get me wrong i LOVE dredg - this just hit me is all - good song nevertheless
hmm...el cielo = driving, atmospheric soulful compilation with the presence of a score cwa = good by any means, but it, like this material, is about the catchy hooks. they're are damn good sounding hooks, but it just doesn't quite resonate in my bones the same way that el cielo and leitmotif did to each their own i guess
Dredg's symbol actually means change, so I wouldn't expect any album to be just a copy of the prevoius one. Did you know this song's lyrics are about a suicide bomber? is inner dialogue is not between him and his girl bur allegedly between him and his God
"Now, this sounds like a new teen-emo band from MTV. " okay, no it doesn't. i'll agree that Dredg's earlier work is largely their best, but this song is fantastic. there's nothing wrong with a band gaining an acute pop sensibility as they age. see Strata. see Silverchair. it works.
Dredg really reminds me of Tool. Although another direction and style than Tool, but their mentality. They are both unique in their music, they go against the mainstream and walk their own paths, they put the music first and not their image.
Love to Dredg and Tool.
A great band to see live. The whole band is full of amazing musicians, but their drummer is FANTASTIC!!
GAH!!! 3 more weeks till I see these guys for the 20th time! 20 times in 10 years! One of the best bands to ever grace the Vacaville Community Center!
I just can't wait to see them live again!!
I'm a huge fan of El Cielo, probably my favourite Dredg album, but I agree with hefner. They have so much to express, their music just can't stop evolving.
I just saw them in philly.... i never heard these guys before there concert tonight and they won me over there just amazing.
Yes! I totally agree. " His actions a gift for a God without a name." I was actaully going to write this in a post but you beat me to it. BTW great job on the lyrics mh9526, and psychopomp88, even though I have a small discrepancy.

tHIS SONG IS AMAZING!!!
i was in love with the voice but now its more than that!!
I ALREADY WANT THE CD!!
Another great song! Can't wait for their gig in Amsterdam in June.
That´s the best song from Dredg!
This guys rock!!!
I've had the chance to see them 4 times now, and they are absolutely amazing live. Do yourself a favor and go see them play!
TPTPTD was the first album of Dredg that I heard and it´s simply amazing. I look forward to hear the older albums, hopefully they will be as good as this one.
i love you guys...i love it from the first time i heard..such a beautiful sound
Spiritual it is. I love listening to dredg, the music gets inside of me, heals me. Rent waterborne!!!!
Also heard this the other night at the Marquis, another great song, I can't wait for the new album.
I agree. There has been no equal before or during my lifetime.
I like the new album those songs are made not just for to make a song. you can feel how sincere they are...
one of the best dredg lyrics...
Didn't know that art stood against other art to be compared...art is art for the sake of art and that is it
wow amazing song, hope they play it here in houston on the 23rd of October...
they are playing in san francisco on may 19th. im soooo excited
dude dey are way amazing live!!ur gunna enjoy dat show =D
I like the new stuff but i agree El Cielo changed my life. I really hope this one will too. They were amazing live in Tulsa, didnt play Sanzen but they opened with Triangle. awesome.
ima see them the 30th of this month at
El Rey in LA im so excited!!!!!
Okay now that I thought about it... BTW Great song. Best of the new ones.
love it - so beautiful
I don't know what this band has. But they definitely have "it" I won't be surprised if they blow up after their new album comes out.
I mean, these songs are amazing. Catch without arms was awesome and it sounds like their next album is going to be even better, which I didn't think was possible.
I agree with "Winds they twist around you, but I'll be your grass." Besides, it just makes sense if you listen to the rest of the song.
I'm in love with this song
This song is insane i love it...
The lyrics in this song are beautiful
the lyrics are amazing..bring on the cd!!!
anyone in 2020 listening this?
Dredg is awesome!
this song is so beautiful n sad.
they posted an update 2/3 days ago on their homepage stating that the new album will be released late january/early february 2009
it would be amazing to play a concert there!
only ONCE in NYC? you've got some catching up to do! see them both days!
Just... love it!!! *__*
Wow really? That really changes how I thought of this song. Very interesting, very good stuff.
I think they are doing what many other bands have done, go "a little" more mainstream to build the fan base and spark interest in the really creative work? I just recently discovered Dredg, have all the albums and as an artist appreciate the hell out of them! Would never compare them with the Killers!
just saw em in austin and it was fucking amazing get ready for a show!
I really like this song, hopefully it makes it on the upcoming album.
Though I do still kinda wish they stayed along a similar path to the one they were on during El Cielo.
Yea, same here. I saw them at the Riot Room.
Gavin is an amazing singer. Seriously, who cares if he is slightly off key during live performances? At least you know he's not using auto tune as so many so called "artists" these days do.
the song was originally called Waterbourne, which is the title of a film that Dredg scored. perhaps the bridge lyrics have to do with the film?
dregd is a masterpiece band.
their songs (specially El Cielo) are full of philosophy, art, science and onirical existencialism.
Hey Acid Milk Tree, just because he doesnt sing about Wizards and Dragons dosent mean his lyrics suck or that you have to like it. He is one of the best song writers ever.
very GOOD!!!
Amazing song. June 9 is so far.
Oh and I'm 100% sure the lyric is:
Cause I want to give you just a temporary bliss.
Cheers!
Considering the CD isn't out yet, I would hope so.
You know it could just be spiritual.
dead since catch without arms. rest in peace, dredg
Sell out? If anything they tore apart any progress they made. As far as chemistry, if you knew Dredg you would know, they all are very different, they do their own thing, and it comes out amazing. That doesn't mean they don't have chemistry.
Gavin looks like Morrison, great voice by the way
this is awesome, as is el cielo anf leitmotif bro.
Well I think your right, they just look like artists, I mean they look like people who just care about doing their music
btw: I'm gonna see them saturday night!!!!
(concerts are way better at night, it's a pity they always have to play in the afternoon at festivals)
New album, coming soon!!!! 😊
When!? Can't wait
@@goexist5826 they are recording new songs already, so this year I hope so.
so you think it's a concept album? would be probable... guess we have to know the theme before interpreting the single songs.
Part of what is so great about Dredg is that they don't look like Rock Stars. That is to say, they don't look like slobs either. But that it doesn't seem like they spent 2 hours getting ready. It kinda turns me off to a band when you can clearly see that their image is more important than their music.
There isn't enough syllables for "War Cries" to work.
I thought it was...
Winds they twist around, you but I'll be your grass.
dredg is not new by any means. they were signed in 2001. I saw them the first time in 1998. This song is closer to pop music than anything they've ever written, and no, it's not comparable to their earlier stuff either in terms of sheer creative force and originality (that's hard to reproduce).

mh9526 said it best, don't judge until the album's out.
i feel the same.
now that makes perfectly sense, where did you get that from (no offence, perhaps you thought it out yourself, "I don't know" ^^)
thanks again!
If you have a facebook account make sure to become a fan of Dredg. And add the guys as friend. Each one has an account, except for Dino.
Yeah the band is evolving & why would they keep making the same album over and over again. I like all the new songs just like the past stuff and ORPH too! SIK!
i can see the killers reference. it's completely music/beat/melody oriented, but that's about all it is. Dredg is dredg. and dredg rules.
have you ever heard Ode to the Sun
that has religious elements in the lyrics too
yeah i know. I agree this will probably be a concept album. Going for the verses I agree that this could easily be about jesus.
Lines like "Cause I can absorb your sorrows, I'm the one" or "With an anticipation no man could bear" fit quite well... I just don't see how the chorus fits to that.

me neither, i'll be there to:)
i've waited to long for them to come to holland:) [en waarom ik dit in het engels zet weet ik ook niet:P]
wawawa
Lol, very true. Not knockin him, but he looked a little chunky the other day.
forgetting the lyrics has nothing to do with talent. you remember the sequences of words not every word individually, which is why if you forget the first word of a verse you might forget the entire verse.
Gavin is an AMAZING lyricist and writes some awesome vocal melodies. If what he does isn't talent, I really don't know what is.
and gavin is an amazing lyrici
Great Stuff, is so suicidal in some aspects
5/5
that's the point....
Whips may twist around you, but I'll be your grass(? cries?)
should be
Whips may twist around you, but I'll be your war cries
I can't stand when people comment on how "lame" a crowd is -.- If I was at a show, i'd want to watch the band, not jump up and down and go crazy. The point of going to a live show is to watch a band.
yeah, I've have el cielo and it's pretty good. I just think catch without arms is the best out of those two.
sexiest drummer
i think it's called "information" or "mourning this morning"
Gavin is frequently off key with his singing. Not terribly so, but enough for a musician with a good ear to notice. There are plenty of examples in this video. 2:58 is one place. Even on the live at the filmore album, which is quite well produced, you hear it.

did you know that he plays piano and drums at the same time?
Is Leitmoff any good? I have never heard it. I heard from someone it was kinda awful???
Yeah the problem is the people that like good music is such a minority. The new songs are great!
Dino should be going straight on 4/4 backbeat during the instrumental part and doing more half time stuff in the verses - I also don't like the 2H 16th notes on the hi-hat during the chorus - but don't get me wrong i LOVE dredg - this just hit me is all - good song nevertheless
Yeah I agree, that and it is a hard chorus to sing :P
this band exists........................
hmm...el cielo = driving, atmospheric soulful compilation with the presence of a score
cwa = good by any means, but it, like this material, is about the catchy hooks. they're are damn good sounding hooks, but it just doesn't quite resonate in my bones the same way that el cielo and leitmotif did
to each their own i guess
@ashleylbaker "Dredg is raw, Tool is produced. Dredg is progressive, Tool is rock."
...what?
Haha I just noticed that Gavin looks like Ronald D Moore's twin here.
Dredg's symbol actually means change, so I wouldn't expect any album to be just a copy of the prevoius one.
Did you know this song's lyrics are about a suicide bomber? is inner dialogue is not between him and his girl bur allegedly between him and his God
listen to circa survive
same here. I wonder if it's true.
"Now, this sounds like a new teen-emo band from MTV. "
okay, no it doesn't. i'll agree that Dredg's earlier work is largely their best, but this song is fantastic. there's nothing wrong with a band gaining an acute pop sensibility as they age. see Strata. see Silverchair. it works.
@purty707 What??
