  • Gouache can be used to easily make colorful calligraphy ink! In this video, I will show you a quick demo using Arteza's gouache.
    ----------
    ✨MATERIALS USED IN THIS VIDEO✨
    Dinky Dips & Base: www.mlovewell.com/collections...
    Arteza Gouache: go.arteza.com/3hd99C0
    Arteza Watercolor Book: go.arteza.com/3e2mE5d
Distilled Water in 1oz Dropper Bottle: amzn.to/2BhueL6
    Plastic Stirrer: amzn.to/2BTx3Tk
    *Gum Arabic (optional) - amzn.to/2URddyB.
*After the ink dries, test to see if it smears. If it smears, I usually add a couple drops of gum arabic to the jar and mix again. Since this particular gouache didn't smear, I did not use it in this video.
**I use dinky dips for when I don't need to make a big batch of colored ink. If you are working on a larger project like envelopes, I recommend mixing in a 1/2oz jar instead.

Hi Younghae, thanks for making this video! Just wondering, is it recommended to use distilled water to mix with gouache? Or can I use regular tap water? Is there a huge difference?

Many will recommend distilled water as it's been purified and free of contaminants. So, if you have access to it, I would suggest buying a gallon of it and keeping it aside for just calligraphy use! I use it to dilute ink, clean nibs, etc :)

Fyi this totally doing something to do something. Its warerbased ie, add more it thins also you normally only use gum for ink but thats only thickening it. Whats the lesson here? Waste money?
Just so you all know this paint is waterborne not only waterbased meaning let it dry and wet it again. It turns back to paint. acrylics for instance arent. Though waterbased once it evaporates, acrylates bond and wont wash away anymore. I work with nearly all paint and lots of inks what shes teaching is a true moot point. Want the more natural look? Open it up to the air and wait! Too thick? Add a few drops of water. Because the only good there is to use arabic gum for one doesnt even apply to paint but that's what you use to thicken up calligraphy ink. Know those gel pens? Thats ink with arabic gum making it gel.
You didnt make anything you took an existing paint thinned it out thickened it back up in a very pigment unfriendly way and now we've learned baaically nothing because the logic of i can add water to this and then write with it is apparent.

Why 😂 why why why! For one watercolours wont ever become as opaque as a calligraphy ink and say you'd want real ones to thicken up then arabic gum is right! You forgot this is paint it isnt merely as effective and its not the right thing there plenty of things in the kitchen you could've used which are cheaper and will enhance pigment but watering down waterbased and borne paint and call that calligraphy ink? 😂
