To many, myself incl8uded, the late Paul Allen's iconic motoryacht "OCTOPUS", is the definitive Explorer yacht. Others may be bigger, but none can match her classic elegance and abilities, equally at home off Cannes or Cape Horn. Just rather sad that during her inaugural cruise as a charter yacht, she apparently threw a main prop-shaft(?) near Panama and is likely to be out of commission for some months..!! Any mechanical object no matter how sophisticated, will always be at risk of problems...!
Did he have a documentary about these discoveries. If so, can someone post me a link. I was fascinated with this yacht since I caught wind of it 3 years ago. I'm just learning how Scrooge Mc Duck this guy really was with this vessel. Now I am more interested in the adventures than the yacht!
As to the giving pledge, it was a MINIMUM of half his estate. Unfortunately his primary heir and executor, his sister Jodie Allen, is taking a highly measured approach to liquidating assets like the Trail Blazers and Seahawks, which are alot of fun to own. I wonder if the 50% will ever actually be achieved, there was nothing legally binding about it, it was just a pledge or promise by a dead man, whose heirs have likely found it quite pleasant indeed to control so much money.

19 knots is fast for a large yacht. Most have cruise speeds of 8-10 knots with high speeds of 11-14 knots.
