It may have something to do with the legendary defeat of a rather large roman legion (9th Legion). And because it was the Germanic tribes that did it. A opponent Rome seldom lost to, no matter what. I don't know, but it's a interesting fact of history
I doubt the Germans or however Romans called their provinces were even looking for a fight, it might have been Rome that, once passed the incomfortability of trying to survive daily live, found out about this word power, and how they could exploit it easily as other "nations" which were probably just towns living among eachother (I wouldn't say peacefully) were still at the stage of having to survive in the harsh terrain. This of course gave the Romans a huge advantage as these people weren't a military power/nation and were not as imperialistic. +iP00WN Unfortunately, if you study history, they really were looking for a fight. Not that I blame them. The Germans had the intent of attacking and wiping out as many of Rome's legions as they could.
Because my ancestry is mainly all German, the Battle of Teutoburg Forest is the only part of Roman history that I find interesting. If I ever get another dog as a pet I plan on calling him Arminius. I also love the religious beliefs and superstitions of both sides in the battle. The Roman feared the woods, they believed that it was where the evil spirits lived. The Germans took the violent thunderstorm that happened throughout the entire battle as a sign from Thor that the Gods were on their side. The Romans lost 10% of their ENTIRE standing army (3 of 30 legions) in 24 hours of fighting. Rome never tried to conquer North of the Rhine ever again after this crushing defeat. On a sad note, the Nazis, mostly Himmler, viewed the battle as proof of the Aryan supremacy before it was "tainted by breeding with other 'inferior' beings" and had the SS headquarters where they did their occult rituals not far from where the battlefield is believed to be My only complaint is that you can't play as the Germans in this historical battle
Another good name would be Odoacer. He brought the Roman empire to an end and became the first barbarian king of Italy. I would still recommend looking more into roman history, especially as Julius Caesar is arguably the greatest general of all time and not many battles can compare to what he did. Also yeah, the romans were a huge influence on Hitler when he formed the Nazi party and the German armies. It's kind of ironic to think about, considering the history.

Pre-Emperor Edition (this footage was from 2013, so it is definitely from then), it's true that the engine only allowed 1v1s between individual units like in Shogun 2, Napoleon and Empire. However, because so many people complained about it, it is now possible for more than one unit to attack a single unit - the visuals will show off a 1v1 between two units who are focused on each other, but other units which do not have a target to do a 1v1 with can target an enemy already in a 1v1 duel and do attacks from behind or to the sides at that enemy unit. If the health of that enemy unit goes down to 0 while not killed by their targetted duel opponent, they will use the ranged death animation. Aladdin Warlord This is not how the real battle of Teutoburg was, they were on a punishment expedition, with three legions, when they got betrayed by the Germans on their side and attacked from all flanks. Then it started to rain and they couldnt move their wagons. They got slaughtered. Varus took suicide, he did not get killed by the Germans
Lol...Its one ambush and your claiming "Germanic" tribes (I.e Scandinavian Tribes re Norway, Denmark, Sweden whom happened to migrate to Germany among other places) Ruled the Romans...so i guess you have never heard of the Byzantine empire which lasted for centuries after the West being the richest and often most powerful force in Europe. Arminius didn't win a single battle after this look it up, Germanicus Caesar(gaining the name Germanicus for his exploits in Germany obviously) avenged the legions deaths for several years after defeating these very same Germans in at least two pitched battles(Actually fighting a a prepared enemy head on) and many smaller skirmishes/battles (i.e battle of Long Bridges Arminius tried to pull of another Teutoburg Forest and failed, attacking the Romans on the March (whom had just finished campaigning in Germany) through marshes and swaps whilst they had to rebuild/restore bridges and roads for their baggage train they also had to fight of the Germans. This is the battle which the First Germanic Legion got its name, and indicative of the Legions discipline and courage holding out against a very very shitty situation. Germanicus went to the site of the ambush of the Three legions, buried the Dead and retrieved all three eagles, and if Tiberius had allowed him to continue campaigning rather than sending him to Syria(From memory) he may have been able to reprovince Germany given another few years. It took the Germans Three whole days to defeat a surrounded and outnumbered enemy(and to a degree unprepared) whom was caught whilst on the march very vulnerable situation for any army of the day with some of there supposed allies deserting them which never helps either.(The Romans even attempted to build a marching camp, with a wall on wide side and ditch being completed according to archaeological evidence) One Reason why Varus was caught off guard was because Germania had been basically prov inced/pacified (yes it happened if only temporarily) by Drusus (who died campaiging i think he fell of his horse, his troops built a memorial, he like Germanicus was very popular with the legions) and Tiberius. Varus thought that the rebellion was only minor one needing only a show of force, which had worked for him in the past on one occasion in the middle east. Also This took place in 9 AD, so if your claim is correct, it only took another few CENTURIES to defeat only the Western (weaker)half of the empire which had been in decline since at least the third century crisis, mostly due to internal weakness aka civil war) The "Germans" where symptoms/effects of internals weakness, not the cause of them. Rant over...
KingoftheGods123 the byzantine empires was collapsing since middle ages and they definitely weren't the most powerful force in europe, they kept losing territories to arabs and turks and constantinopol was plundered two times by the crusaders and russians, the roman empire was just destined to fall, it could not last, because of all the different ethnic groups it contained
Hey Askar, let me clarify certain things. :) In some cases the number doesn't matter, all that matter is the tactic you use to defeat your enemies, but number, never that much. And, in this video the battle was lost, only few men escaped, they escaped, they ran for their life, they didn't fight for it, they just ran, how can you call this a victory? :P
Just saying, the Varus commanded three legions, spread out in one long slim line. Doesn't matter how many troops you've got, if you get ambushed from all sides you're going to lose. Varus himself commited suicide and the legions eagle standards were lost.
Joshua Print And after that happened emperor Augustus banged his head against the wall and yelled, Varus, give me back my legions, which is displayed in the intro.

I love it
Lol, the Germans deployed only 960 while the Romans had 1580. That's a lie! xD
you cant play withou steam -_-
No one made it out
I can not win this one 🤣
We should learn from history I mean damn why he didn't send scouts or spys to German maybe he will know the conspiracy I mean what a fool will enter to a war and enemy land with no strategy. ....... damn that was so stupid if I was him I will send a spy behind a spy lol so if one of them betrayed me I know 😛
there should be german "king" who said herrman will betray him but varus didnt beleive
Oudamseth Samin am not sure that I understood what you mean
Aladdin Warlord This is not how the real battle of Teutoburg was, they were on a punishment expedition, with three legions, when they got betrayed by the Germans on their side and attacked from all flanks. Then it started to rain and they couldnt move their wagons. They got slaughtered. Varus took suicide, he did not get killed by the Germans
Axel Rudoöfsson thx for the useful information 😀
this was so easy on hard lol you just got to run no strategy.
Sincer, mie mi se pare cam greu de crezut ca Armeniu avea 10-11 unitati ,si chiar a fost exagerat nr. germanilor.
Esti prea prost.
i fucking hate the control system of this game.
VARUS that coward!!
Quintili Vare, legiones redde!
?
duuude.
We germans desteoyed those Romans and the roman empire. And even ruked them almost 1000 years after that.
It took the Germans Three whole days to defeat a surrounded and outnumbered enemy(and to a degree unprepared) whom was caught whilst on the march very vulnerable situation for any army of the day with some of there supposed allies deserting them which never helps either.(The Romans even attempted to build a marching camp, with a wall on wide side and ditch being completed according to archaeological evidence)
One Reason why Varus was caught off guard was because Germania had been basically prov inced/pacified (yes it happened if only temporarily) by Drusus (who died campaiging i think he fell of his horse, his troops built a memorial, he like Germanicus was very popular with the legions) and Tiberius. Varus thought that the rebellion was only minor one needing only a show of force, which had worked for him in the past on one occasion in the middle east.
Also This took place in 9 AD, so if your claim is correct, it only took another few CENTURIES to defeat only the Western (weaker)half of the empire which had been in decline since at least the third century crisis, mostly due to internal weakness aka civil war)
The "Germans" where symptoms/effects of internals weakness, not the cause of them.
Smrtnik
"often most powerful force in Europe".
The term often is pretty relative
And how well did that work out for you?
dude.. your micro is TERRIBLE
dude you dont even have a fcking video where we could see that yours is even worse.
Romans outnumbered Germans in reality. But still lost the battle.
This game is fake.
Hey Askar, let me clarify certain things. :)
In some cases the number doesn't matter, all that matter is the tactic you use to defeat your enemies, but number, never that much. And, in this video the battle was lost, only few men escaped, they escaped, they ran for their life, they didn't fight for it, they just ran, how can you call this a victory? :P
SergiuHellDragoonHQ Well, I am talking about historical battle, where romans lost.
Askar Turebekov
I lost here too. :)
This game is such a piece of shit
