What about a unique top face property that wont cover the entire top face but has 4 sections to match the geometry below it on each side and so will only look fine from below looking up but not from above as will have mismatched geometry split in 4 sections. This would be good for most games that don't allow you to see top surfaces but will show proper edge smoothing and a bit of the top geometry lining up....?

You could probably do that by creating four wedges on top and aligning the texture correctly on each.
