Part 2 here: • I REMADE The Secret Of...
Steel Wool has been keeping the PAX demo of Secret of the Mimic under wraps, but after 5 playthroughs and 4 watchthroughs, I've been able to remake the demo with nothing but my own notes!
...have I forced the 'rithm to do its job yet? Good. Now onto the non-slop description:
This is a layout recreation of the first level to the demo. I'm going to do the second level as soon as I have the time to. I hope you all stick around for that and enjoy! Feel free to voice your opinions on my work, I'm open for criticism even on things made with such short notice as this.

A quick update: I just tested positive for COVID from Pax, so the second level is probably going to take some time.

@@ethanimatronic Actually they were quite happy to talk with me and let me take notes as my friend was playing and vice versa. One of them on the last day even joked about looking forward to seeing my gmod map remakes.

As somebody who got to play the demo at pax, this is what the map layout looks like, in terms of aesthetic, its not quite there but i know for the most part you were just trying to get the layout, furniture, etc, and your spot on.
@@SkylerIsFine thank you! After I get the chase done, I might come back to this and do some adjustments like remaking the room through the windows (it was just a cubemap in the actual demo but it wouldn't hurt to remake, I think the blue bird costume from ruin was being constructed in the middle)

For being a quickly done environment you made in the middle of the night after 4 days of Pax West, I’m genuinely impressed by how this lines up very well with what other people are saying about the demo. Amazing work! I hope you get some rest after this.
Oh I hope so too. Got the second level to make, still. *That* one took me all of my playthroughs *and* watching all of my friend's playthroughs to get the right layout for. I even had to resort to scribbling notes down on a paper giftbag when I left my sketchbook in my hotel room.
Edit: I got like 5 hours of sleep *tops*

This is hella cool to see and aligns very well with everything we've heard about the demo, but it's especially nice having some sort of reference to go off of. I'm really excited to see how closely this lines up to the actual game, whether we see it in the form of a demo or a full game I'm excited regardless. It's also interesting to me that they had so much Fredbear's marketing despite it being so early, like even having pizza boxes prepared makes me think we'll 100% get a fredbear model too. Thank you for this, it's very cool!

2:02 honestly this is one of the only videos I geniunely would (and did) leave a like on. No one else has explained the demo in THIS MUCH detail. Even just the trash can at the start is an example of this. You give even the most minute details. And you having recreated it is also good as I couldn't exactly piece it in my head from the descriptions we've gotten.

the scene with Jackie and the Mailbot really feels to me like its in the same vein as the Jeff and Headcrab Elevator scene from Alyx.

I think that that “octupus” poster is actually a large tarantula! Notice how the eye are blacked out and they have white gloves like DJ Music Man whom was based off of a spider.
I think it's a starfish since there's a lot of star imagery, the hat has stars on it, the glasses on his face have the shapes of a starfish, and it looks like it's an underwater creature
@@JonJeanJohn yeah that does sound a bit better but the gloves and amount of limbs sell it for me
@@DJ_Music_Man2 i mean the gloves aren't really anything special, plenty of characters have that type of gloves and the limbs could be an over exaggeration on the poster's part since it is cartoony but idk that's my best guess, I just don't know why a tarantula has all this star imagery and has an underwater look

"Jackie" IS the mimic.
Its missing its legs, which the mimic is also missing at this time, as it doesn't get legs until it gets sent to the Pizzaplex.
It also has a body that can stretch and contort into any shape, which is what the mimic is known for.
Yep! And I think that if that isn't evidence enough, the fact that it constantly repeats voice lines also lines up with how it acts in the books. We actually realized that, at the start of the chase, she'll pick a random voice line and repeat that same line all throughout the level. There was "Get back to work, ____" (the last word definitely wasn't jackie or mimic, it almost sounded like "Lila" to me,) as well as "I want a nice big slice of cake," and "Time for your birthday hug."
And people still think it isnt...
The Mimic gets legs way before the Pizzaplex. A team is sent to Edwin's factory not long after his disappearance and they repair the Mimic and give it legs. Jackie is likely a Mimic model 2.
@@ABteam1009 yeah, but maybe it was before that, and it wouldnt make much sense for them to be teasing a new animatronic suit in an upcoming game that has "mimic" in its title, also what other character doesnt have legs that could be there?

In part 2 do you think you can make a model of how Jackie looked in his/her chasing stage while in level 2 and 1? Also models of how the mascots in the starting room looked like?
a bit beyond my capabilities, I'm mostly a hard-body modeler. Could probably retrofit a few of the existing models for some things, though.

The mascot could have been the chef pig or the gator. Ive heard those two were in the demo. Also, No1 crate showing up matches up with Edwin inventing Mr Hugs in the book.

As someone who just read The Mimic Tales story this morning. He does not invent Mr. Hugs. He invents a robotic vacuum cleaner. It's never said or implied to be Mr. Hugs. Mr. Hugs is just a regular vacuum with weird stuff on it.
@@SnailTheNail seeing as No 1 Crate is reportedly in the SotM Demo, Trash and the Gang were in HW2 for seemingly no reason, and the fact FE bought the company after the robotic vacuum...what other robot vacuum in FNaF could it be talking about?
@@at_witts_end3470 Mr Hugs isn't even a robot vacuum. it's just a vacuum with stuff attached to it made to be a cheaply made "animatronic". Edwin's vacuum is a vacuum, not an animatronic made out of trash.

Yep. There's a clean version of the elephant costume in the mimic's room, which I visualized with d0g here. There'a also the messy head of it in the chase just after a section where you have to crouch and pull levers. There was also a hollowed out GOLDEN head and golden arm of the elephant in the same location as the head, so make of that as you will.

This is a really cool remake in gmod, although if you don’t already know how to, id really reccomend learning blender as id love to see a more accurate recreation of what you saw with all the little details.
@@3DFella Actually I have 7 years of experience in Blender and an MS in game design, although I suspect that by the time I get some model remakes done, they'll probably already release some official footage.

How large is Jackie actually? I hear she’s huge, but is it like… she fills the room? How many players tall is she?
2? 2 and a half? It's hard to measure her exact size because she's only a torso and above, plus her arms are springy and elongate. She's definitely larger than the prop at Pax.

The #1 gift was a cutout in front of the rocket ship, I'm pretty sure. Whatever was directly in the corner, I am almost positive, was a full mascot costume or statue of some kind.
Its been quite hard to find good records of what characters were visible in the level select screen. Did you take notes on that?
I don't think we took active notes for it, sorry. What I *can* tell you from memory is that I remember there was what looked like a pig in a cage in front of and to the left of the player (I forget what he was wearing, it may have been a sheriff outfit,) the octopus from the "need a hand" poster (it looked completely distinct from the octopus cutout in the mimic room,) and behind and to the right of the player, there was an alligator with red hair and a banjo with at least 3 of the little guys seen on the purple hippo poster. It's possible that sharpay was in there as well, but I don't remember for certain. The floor that the player stands on is some kind of sun/moon design, I *believe* stylized like traditional central-american tile frescos.

No, but we know that it's releasing in 2025. One of the developers *did* mention that flat mode and vr mode are both being worked on at the same time, so at least there's a good chance that, even if it only releases with one mode, we won't have to wait long for the other.

Well, of the 5 developers who watched me takes notes and talk about remaking the level layouts, none of them had any objections, and two of them, including one of Steel Wool's co-founders, actually helped me with my notes by pointing out more things. I suspect I'm probably fine.

depending on where you measure from, I would say between 8 to 10 feet, but it's really hard to say just because she has no waist and her arms can stretch.

I wouldn't worry too much about the gender of an animatronic whose main function is to constantly change its behavior and outward appearance to match different people/mascots. There's a pretty good chance that, in the full game, there will be plenty of boy-mimic-characters, girl-mimic-characters, and probably some that fit neither label.

Well, they watched as my friend and I took notes on every little detail, some of the proctors intentionally pointed us towards a few details we otherwise would have missed, and one of them said he was looking forward to my gmod remake, so I suspect they're alright with it. The main point of not showing real footage is to hide unfinished content until its ready and build hype, so someone remaking the level layouts and talking about what they saw will probably help on both fronts.
