Raiden also directly quotes Armstrong in the post credit cutscene, he might have disagreed with his methods and killed him, but he sure is carrying on his ideals

I think it would have been interesting to have an option to spare Armstrong, since he came to respect Raiden's strength and would be willing to change as Raiden would be the boss now. Ultimately, without a sequel or any other information about the events after the game through 2020 and beyond, we have no idea of the actual consequences of what happened in Shabhazbad that day beyond avoiding war between America and Pakistan, so speculating about alternate endings is pointless.

He understands some may have to die on the path to obtaining a better life for the whole, but he doesn’t seem to hate his opposition.

Raiden is pretty brutal too but Armstrong was a hypocrite you see, in a well written way. He talks about purging the weak, the weak by his definition can be two things. Either the physicially weak or poor, which is an instant red flag for Raiden. And he did prove he would use them for his benefits, like the child brains. He has no sympathy, he was born rich and succeeded because of his money, and by backstabbing, manipulating and misusing, like the same people he wants to purge. The difference is that he is passionate and does want to bring change, but because he was a hypocrite Raiden needed to fight him. Now I do wish there were multiple endings, one where Raiden spares Armstrong. That's a thing with MGR in general, it was too short, it would be lovely to see the long term effects of the events of the game on Raiden's psychology. Armstrong could have changed if Raiden beat him up but than spared him, asserting his dominance and causing Armstrong to follow him and have better leadership, since Raiden is much more suited for Armstrong's ideology as he was and sympathises with the unfortunate and he earned and learned his weapons instead of buying them. But instead Raiden chose veangeance and killed Armstrong, which is what the title of the game refers to.
Everybody's asking what happened to Sam's sword after Raiden inherited it. Look at 2:10 the case of his sword is so long, it must be inside there, because Raiden's HF blade was a bit shorter compared to Sam's HF blade.

I rewatched the scene in the beginning where Raiden also showed his case and i tried to measure it, if you rotate it vertically it measures from his hips to foot. And now, i tried to rotate the new case vertically, i'd say it starts from the bottom of his chest spanning way down to his foot.
We can't know exactly what would happen. Armstrong's reason is kinda open for interpretation, you can see it as him making a new violent world where only the strong thrive ("the strong will live and the week will perish") or you can see it as him trying to end wars once and for all ("I'm using war as a business to end war as a business") and either way it's not necessarily wrong. Personally I wish there was a choice to make. Maybe at the fight with Sam, altough it was inevitable (I just really wanted Sam to live ;-;), like a join them or fight them kind of deal.

This seems like the better ending because even though Armstrong had extremely short screentime leading up to this event, he really became the most iconic character in the game, and became an immediate fan favorite because of his extreme will and the extremely high posting of memes surrounding him, because of that, I really wish Kojima and platinum games added choices so that you could choose a path/route you wanted to take. You want to be the good guy, there’s an ending for that, you want to be rogue and turn on your own comrades, but not join Desperado? There’s an ending for that. You want to join desperado, but come to terms with your comrades and leave them out of this? There’s an ending for that. I really wish they added these endings because it would have been really cool to see Raiden choosing his own path, but that’s just my opinion.

0:26 funny thing is, Metal Gear Rising is first to have this The Terminator esque music cue. Metal Gear Survive also has menu music Very similar to Terminator for some reason. And in Metal Gear Solid 2 scene where Snake's camo malfunctioned is obviously a reference to Terminator time bubble arrival. And in Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake scene where we see Metal Gear getting assembled is familiar with T2 assembly line scene. It is just strange that this particular movie gets references. But then again, it kinda is same future if you think about it. Ie humans created weapons which Will end up enslaving them if not completely destroying.
