Finally somebody is focusing on Vargram. He's literally the most famous person represented in the game aside from Vyke and almost nobody has spoken about them. I also find that Fromsoft made them very small figures in the lore which only adds to them being overlooked.
Vyke and Vargram are probably the two closest Tarnished to Lordship, aside from the player of course. If Vyke had met Hyetta or another fingermaiden who would warn him to take off his armor before meeting the three fingers and if Vargram met Melina instead of us, they would probably have already became Elden Lord, I mean Vyke had the powers of the ancient dragons and the Frenzied Flame behind him and Vargram had a form of Destined Death and could probably recruit Godskin Apostles and Nobles to his side

So if the Gloam Eyed Queen turns out to be Melina, does that mean we are in one big one sided "love" triangle with Vargram? It raises questions about Melina not choosing Vargram to serve as maiden. He's guaranteed to do everything she says, and is clearly a powerful established tarnished, unlike our player.
At the least, it would have been nice to talk to Vargram before attacking. If you were following Ranni's quest, we could have found some common ground and maybe form an alliance (even if only temporary).
Maybe he took the yellow pill and ditched your spirit gf that only talks to you when she needs something. The reason he was upset with Wilhelm is he tried to convince him that he's too good for Melina but they got back together when Vargram moved on from her.
There are so many prime tarnished around, it’s crazy we don’t see them more often, or that we’re particularly friendly with them. Also, I’m fairly sure the MC in the trailers isn’t Vargram, but rather the bloody wolf version of our tarnished wearing that armor. At least, that’s what I usually think anyways.
I think Vargram and the player are different, specifically the one shown in the trailer. Considering he's wearing the unaltered Raging Wolf Set meanwhile ours is the altered. Could even be metaphoric, Vargram has accepted the mantle of becoming a shadow. Meanwhile our Tarnished has no cloak, and thus we as the player are free to choose our destiny.
The question I always had was why Vargram uses the Godslayer's Greatsword. I figured he just had a good taste in weaponry. Honestly out of all DLC I'd want a Dusk/Gloam-eyed Queen one, I wanna meet the lady who made Marika shake in her boots so much she had to have Maliketh get involved. Even if she tries to murder me it'd still be nice to know what she looked like. And no Melina isn't the Dusk-Eyed Queen so don't even bring it up.
I don't believe the dusk eyed queen is still living. In the frenzied flame ending Melina definitely inherits her power, but I think you're right, they're not the same person.

I’d say what’s more likely is that the player in the trailer is our character, and the armour was just chosen without the most consideration for it (our appearance is our choice afterall). This set was probably chosen because it was a network test class and because it represented Elden rings armour and what to expect from it (that being it’s really cool). I say this because Vargram pretty much exclusively uses the gods layer great sword and the character in the trailers doesn’t. It’s not really like Fromsoft has ever focused too much on a canon appearance for the Mc. We have a general appearance but even then it’s vague and often goes against canon sometimes (hell, the ashen one is both depicted as wearing the regular knight and the soul of cinder set, the bloodborne hunter switches coats often enough, DS1 pretty much just reused Oscar and DS2s trailer featured a product so different to the final build it’s basically another game)

About Vargram: if the Godslayer Greatsword is his weapon, why do we find it under Caelid's tower? Why are there Blackflame Monks only at the bottom of Caelid's tower? Does Radhan have something to do with the Blackflame? (I think not, but...) 🤔
Im just soreading my theory around. Its not meant to be taken seriously. Now this is a stretch, but I think Godfrey/Hoarah Loux and his tarnished army became the atmorans. After being cast out by Marika, they left the lands between and traveled across realms until the ended up on nirn, on Atmora. Ysgramor was one of the tarnished warriors who decided to stay on atmora while Godfrey returned to the lands between as he was called back by the guidance of grave to become Elden Lord once again. Some of the Atmorans followed him and returned, becoming tarnished once again while the others and Ysgramor stayed behind to settle. Thus, both the story of elden ring and Ysgramor’s saga happens at the same time.
I wondered if the bell hunter was trying to be a shadowbound to malenia since shes a empyrean. Maybe he wants to find her and bound to her as lover, friend and a protector. I mean he was looking at the portrait thinking how he can find her.
So elemer of the briar is not the one who had an obsession with Malenia, that was Maleigh Marais. Elemer took his castle after they tried to put him to death. As far as we know he has no strong feelings towards Malenia outside of revering her as a member of the golden lineage

Do you think vargram was supposed to be a shadow to ranni? I kind of feel like he was supposed to be one hence why he was called back so early but then had no meaning after she killed her empyrean body or like you said he could have lost his empyrean even earlier if it was the gloam eyed queen well considering his weapon I guess that makes more sense or he could have been a shadow to both of them but I just feel like if the gloam eyed queen was his empyrean it would have been long ago enough for him to have known that he was her empyrean idk just spitballing
@@square-table-gaming I agree with you on that point but just curious wasn’t maleketh alive before he was called to be mericas shadow? Or am I wrong I thought it said something about him before being mericas shadow…
It seems you have your timeline a little mixed up here. Gloam Eyed Queen tried to kill Marika, therefore Marika sealed away destined death in Maliketh's pendant. This lead to people "dying" being absorbed into the Great Tree and be reborn, Vargram would've lived after the shattering (where the demigods began to fight each other and the journey for Tarnished to come home to ascend the throne started). It is therefore unknown if it's the roundtable hold from Leyendell Errant was trapped in or the one Marika (probably) created as a loop for Tarnished to become stronger so they could ascend the throne. So either Marika killed an empyrean, sealed away destined death, planned and executed the night of the long knives, banished Godrick, married Radagon and shattered the elden ring in the time Vargram didn't realize that the queen he was stanning had died or Marika realized the errors of the Erdtree and the Greater Will and planned things over a long time and Vargram is striving to the wolf of someone else. But we don't know, not every Empyrean has a wolf (Malenia and Miquella) and it seems like those that were given a wolf were given by the two-fingers when the Greater Will appointed an Empyrean, like they did with the Gloam Eyed Queen, which we learnt from Blaidd and Ranni. We don't know but Marika shattering the Elden Ring and being sealed away and having all those statues set up before the war doesn't seem like a likely outcome, to me, that Vargram was a part of that.
I don't believe we implied at any point that Vargram and the gloam eyed queen existed at the same time. The implication of Vargram wielding the sword is that he aspires to be the gloam eyed queens wolf even though she is long dead. Also, miquella and Malenia do not need wolves, as malenia already fulfills that role for Miquella.
I personally believe that the Item description on the beast eye is the key to tying it to the Dusk/Gloam eyed queen aka Marika the eternal. The short version is that judging from Ranni’s dialogue, we know that each Empyrean are given a shadow that will betray them if they should ever go against the Greater Will. I believe Maliketh used Marika’s own Great Rune, the rune of Death, and took that eye from her after impaling her with the crimson spear you see in the final arena. It would explain why her corpse is missing one eye and why the eye has a claw mark and is surrounded by Marika’s stony flesh. This eye could very well have been passed down to some of her children as well. Melina- she reveals to have the same eye, on the same side of her face, in the lord of frenzy ending. Malenia - obviously this is pure speculation but I think the rot that covers her eyes was an intentional creative decision to hide this very secret. Miquella - maybe we’ll find out in the DLC Ranni - It’s hard to tie Ranni with Marika but she does posses the same Gloam colored eye in the exact same pupil. I believe Ranni’s pupil color that she never opens is Golden and that’s basing it from Melina. In fact, the golden color from Melinas right eye only changes to white in the flame of frenzy ending, after the golden order is no more. I also have this insane theory that would bring so much of the lore together and is that Ranni IS Miquella but that’s still a work in progress..
So the person on the front cover of the very game is nothing more than a minor side character this time around? Wow usually the person on the front cover has at least a small but major role in the plot.
Vargram is not the character on the cover, that would be Vyke who has a slightly larger role lorewise. Originally he was going to be a much bigger player in the story so they say.

Vargram kinda got sidestepped for Vyke in elden ring
Honestly
I want multiple dlcs
One of them going in depth with Vargram and Wilhelm and another going in depth of the Crucible Knights, maybe adding the other 2 as bosses
Have them apart of the expanded endings. Because, none of the endings are definitive and leave a lot of open threads.
Can you do old knight with the scaled armor? While we're on volcano manor npcs. He helped me in my second ever cave vs the two demihuman chiefs but when he was our first target for the manor i didnt even recognize it was him until after and i felt bad.
Knight Bernhal? He's another big one. Definitely on our list.
@@square-table-gaming I think he’s talking about Old Knight Istvan
What I find weird about tarnished is they essentially look human are they human or another species entirely
Every non tarnished character seems to know we are a tarnished I wonder if it’s some aura we have or just game design 😂
I'm not sure if you could make a whole video about it but I'd love to see a video explaining why their are black knife assassins in ordina the liturgical town
Running away from Golden Order. After the demise of Godwyn, the Golden Order were chasing them. The best hiding place is in Haligtree.
There’s already at least like 3 strong possible DLCs but I’d be super down with an Old Tarnished DLC.
Ist's Always mindblowing to learn about story bits I myself haven't found in nearly 300h playing. Perhaps I should be more aware of my surroundings xD
Very interesting lore
Vargram and Vyke are the posterchilds of ER and it's funny how both of them fell to corrupting or "evil" powers and are barely in the game.
About Vargram: if the Godslayer Greatsword is his weapon, why do we find it under Caelid's tower?
Why are there Blackflame Monks only at the bottom of Caelid's tower?
Does Radhan have something to do with the Blackflame? (I think not, but...)
🤔
Radahn is the Gloam-eyed Queen.
They should really made Varagram and the errand sorcerer an npc instead lol
7:44 wup, never mind
another good video!
What is that violin music you have in every video? I like it but can’t find it
It's the character creation music!
character creation from elden ring lol
No wonder I couldn’t find it lol. Thank you
I wondered if the bell hunter was trying to be a shadowbound to malenia since shes a empyrean.
@@square-table-gaming I see
hi what is the weapon and aow your tarnished was using mate? entertaining video as well
Godslayer's Greatsword with its built in ash of war
They were BFF huh.
Love your videos
thank you!
@@square-table-gaming of course, I don’t always have a great response to write up after I watch the videos, but I find it vital that I at least do a comment or an emoji to help the algorithm for you(and all creators I enjoy) sorry for not much more of a comment, I just didn’t want to forget to write one 🤣
So if the lone wolf preset during the demo was suppose to be Vargram I'm curious about why gender was an option could there be an alternate version of Vargram or maybe a sister in Elden Ring we have yet to see
Not sure if we can take anything from the demo as legit lore. Fromsoft made many changes before the final release.
@@square-table-gaming As you once said "From Soft Does Everything for a reason" it can't be our tarnished because we weren't there at the time, perhaps a look at Vargrams first steps in the lands between. Before our tarnished arrived all those in the demo were maybe the tarnished who were there fist this why Vargram was there. Just me thinking and making theories
Non-binary Vangram is canon. You heard it here folks!
It's an rpg fromsoft will never confirm who the player character is because it's supposed to be whoever you want. That's the point of the genre.
Pretty underwhelming that the most iconic Elden Ring armor in marketing was such a side-point in the actual game.
Of only they had Vyke's in the network test instead it would be more iconic in line with Elite Knight and Faraam.
Can you explore the walking mausoleum next?
Can u please do one on Okina
Do you think vargram was supposed to be a shadow to ranni? I kind of feel like he was supposed to be one hence why he was called back so early but then had no meaning after she killed her empyrean body or like you said he could have lost his empyrean even earlier if it was the gloam eyed queen well considering his weapon I guess that makes more sense or he could have been a shadow to both of them but I just feel like if the gloam eyed queen was his empyrean it would have been long ago enough for him to have known that he was her empyrean idk just spitballing
It's an interesting idea but shadows were hand made by the 2 fingers so it's unlikely a tarnished would be called to that position.
@@square-table-gaming I agree with you on that point but just curious wasn’t maleketh alive before he was called to be mericas shadow? Or am I wrong I thought it said something about him before being mericas shadow…
@@viktor_v-ughnda_vaudville_476 Maliketh probably did not exist before he was made Marika's shadow
im just sad that willhelm didnt do the willhelm screamm :P
Miquella - maybe we’ll find out in the DLC
Ranni - It’s hard to tie Ranni with Marika but she does posses the same Gloam colored eye in the exact same pupil.
So burnt out on this game needs dlc bad I absolutely love the game but can't play for more than 5 minutes at this point.
Noice

Why does every lore video creator use a ASMR voice? 😪
Just for fun i would really like your "subscribe" pitch to be done with the swirling hypnosis image with you saying something like "join us here at STG, you know you want to, free yourself from the burdens of the world, we are a family, become one of us, press the button, you can do it, etc etc"
That would be really funny. Total tonal shift haha.
Also, I'm not teasing at all. You have an amazing voice that for some reason hits me in a very "there is no war in Ba Sing Se" way that's absolutely wonderful and it would be hilarious to me at least.
