- Florida Gators head college football coach Bill Napier, formerly of Louisiana appears to be on the chopping block after taking over for Dan Mullen, which opens the Florida Gators job, who in college football will take over for the SEC school and be the next University of Florida coach? Here I give my pick and prediction, the top 10 candidates or so to monitor in the Florida coaching search include Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss and formerly USC, FAU, and the Raiders, Jedd Fisch of Arizona and Washington, Alex Golesh of USF South Florida, how about Urban Meyer of Ohio State, Florida, and the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL, Gus Malzahn of Auburn and UCF, Eli Drinkwitz of Missouri, Lance Leipold of Kansas, Glenn Schumann the Georgia DC, Jamey Chadwell of Coastal Carolina and Liberty, Mark Stoops of Kentucky and a brief Texas A&M Stint, Matt Campbell at Iowa State, James Franklin at Penn State, Luke Fickell at Wisconsin.

Jedd Fisch doesn't have a proven track record (only 1 decent season), and a high buy out. That would be a big gamble. UF fans and alumni want offense. Kiffin is likely the prime candidate. After him, Jamey Chadwell may be the most innovative offensive mind.
We need a program builder that knows how to win and grow. I think Heupel, Drinkwitz, or maybe Ryan Day are the best options now.

Ultimately, the UAA will have to step up their NIL game for Lane to come to UF.
If Lane declines, I like Malzahn, Franklin, and Drinkwitz.
I was never a fan of the Napier hire and took loads of crap for it.
I don’t understand how people just ignored the fact that he was a horrible OC at Clemson and got canned and horrible WR coach at Bama.
Then he had some success in a high school conference that’s less competitive than Kansas or Mississippi JUCO ball and people bought into that BS.
He’s a guy whose been lucky enough to be an assistant under Dabo and Saban and parlayed his miserable performance under those legends into generational wealth thanks to Stricklin (who is ruining UF athletics across the board).
It won’t be Lane Kiffin. He is making over 9million per year as well as has a daughter at Ole Miss a brother on the staff and a nephew who is coming to Oxford to play HS football. Also he would have to rebuild a program and that takes time when he already has a potential CFP team this year. He is also loved in Oxford and has established a home over time. Don’t see it.

Kiffin wants to live in Fla. He loves fishing in the Atlantic and is sick of the brown Miss. water. He will leave Ole Miss in a NY minute. He's wanted the Fla. job for a long time and was upset with UF for not interviewing him when Napier was hired. UF is an upgrade over Ole Miss. You may be right, but I don't think so.

Florida can pay him more than what he's making now, I'm sure UF will allow his daughter to transfer there where her degree will be MUCH more respected than a degree from Ole Miss, he can hire his brother on staff at UF, and his nephew can play high school football in a state that is more competitive and respected than Mississippi. Bottom line, money and resources talk.

Lane is an offensive mind, wears a visor, has a good troll game, and has the swagger. I think it's a perfect fit for Florida.
He is that guy but I feel ole miss already provides all that he needs and then some and I also think ole miss has less pressure to win a national championship asap
ole miss provides him with chances to reach the playoff sometimes and the chance to have a Cinderella season where everything goes right for a championship run at most 0 times (think TCU in the natty). Assuming he doesn’t have a mid life crisis, at a significantly more resource rich Florida, he would have a better financial and situational backing to be more dominate recruiting the transfer portal and he would already have a situation of zero effort regional/brand priority in a significantly richer high school recruiting grounds. Let’s just hope he learned from his Tennessee to USC flop. He went from a top 20 to a top 10 program before, let’s hope he smoothly glides into the theoretical jump from a top 30 to a top 10 program now.

They keep mentioning urban because he’s not coaching a school as of now all these coaches can’t leave their school it’s a 12 team playoff who wants to leave they’re team to go to UF

I don’t know why Chris Klein isn’t being mentioned. The guy developed 3 1st round picks at FCS NDSU and won 4 natty’s in 5 years there and the year he didn’t win it he lost in the title game. At K St in 5 years he’s had them ranked 4 times and won the big 12. This year K St is a top 20 team and 3-0. They look really good. But he develops good QBs, great OL, and knows how to build good defenses.
The reason is because Scott Stricklin is still the AD and needs a splash to stay that way. He doesn’t need to say hi. He needs a higher that can compete for national championships not for going 8-4 every year.

Western Carolina's HC, Kerwin Bell, former UF QB in the late '80s.....done a lot with nothing at WCU. Can't understand why any of those well known names would want to go to UF, especially Lane Kiffen. He can win 8 games a year at Ole Miss and be safe....
Most people want to be the best they can be and win championships not just get by with 8 wins. We don’t want some who just wants to win 8 games.

It’s a mess, which is why I think Lane will be a tough sell.
But Malzahn, Drinkwitz, and Chadwell are all a step up for those guys.
All those coaches on your list will not work. You guys need kirk herbstreit to trash the Florida program including the AD and have him say how Florida is not taking football serious enough. That's what he did about Miami and shortly after, they got a new AD and Cristobal. That's what needs to happen

The wishcasting is strong on here. People seems to think they have infinitely more money than other SEC/B1G teams. With the TV revenue, it doesn't work that way anymore. The money is a lot more even.

The only one that makes sense is Kiffin. He won't be able to take Ole Miss to the next level but bring him to UF. He'll continue to work the portal and he'll recruit the hell out of our Florida talent plus the ties he has with other other states that he has had success in. OF MAJOR importance, he needs to hire a REAL DC and I think UF could eventually regain our success. Hire him and Lagway stays and eventually wins the Heisman!!

Yes it is. Rabid fan base, one of the largest alumni bases in the country, in a rich recruiting fertile ground, top 5 public schools with boosters with deep pockets and unlimited resourcing in the SEC, with one of the best stadiums in college football. And it’s been a proven location in the past where multiple coaches have won national championships. It is 💯 a top 5 job in the country.

As a DieHard Gator fan, I like all of those names except Lane kiffin. He runs an aerate offense and that's great. But we need a defensive-minded coach like Nick Saban was! If our defense can stop the other team from scoring we have a chance. But if we keep letting teams run all over us, Aunt bend and break dain we have no chance! It's great to be a Florida Gator but I hate the way this is looking. Not a fan of Lane. We need a defensive minded coach that will be ready to put some people with killer instincts on the field! Go Gators
