  • The coeducational Technological Institution of the Philippines Pamantasang Teknolohiya ng Pilipinas, often known as Teknolohikal na Unibersidad ng Pilipinas or simply TUP, is a state university in the Philippines. In 1901, the Philippine Commission founded it. There are satellite campuses of TUP in Taguig, Cavite, Visayas, Batangas, and Quezon in addition to the main campus in Manila.
The Manila Trade School (MTS) was founded in Intramuros, next to Ateneo de Manila, under Act No. 74 of the United States Philippines Commission in 1901. The Philippine School of Arts and Trades (PSAT) and the Philippine College of Arts and Trade (PCAT) were the new names for the Manila Trade School in 1910 and 1959, respectively (PCAT). PCAT was a pioneer in industrial teacher education and engineering technology programs from 1959 to 1978. By virtue of Presidential Decree No. 1518, the Technological University of the Philippines was established on July 11, 1978, replacing the Philippine College of Arts and Trades.
The Department of Trade and Industry certified TUP as a Center of Excellence in the AIMEICC Working Group on Human Resource Development in 1999. In the same year, the university received designations from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as a Center of Development (COD) in the categories of Electrical Engineering (Category 2), Mechanical Engineering (Category 1), and Civil Engineering (Category 1). The Colombo Plan Staff College for Technician Education (CSPC) recognized TUP as a Center of Excellence in the Graduate Fellowship Programme for Technological, Technical, Industrial, and Vocational Education in 2002. TUP also received recognition from the Japan-based Association of Overseas Technical Scholarship (AOTS) as a Center of Excellence.
