Excellent video. Even I, a capable 80 year old woman can follow this video. Just quoted $630.00 to replace at the dealer. Came in for an oil change and came out needing a back up camera. Hmmmmm! Older women are often taken advantage of by some repair people who think we don’t know anything!! I’m a longtime customer having bought several vehicles from them so I hope all is well. Again thank you. Btw I repaired my dryer from a video. Love these helpful videos.

Just finished installing a new camera on my 2014 Edge. GREAT video. Took me 2.5 hours to complete. 20 of those minutes was spent looking for a tork bit. Working with my arms overhead was a challenge. Had to take several breaks. Camera was $47 on Amazon. Dealer quoted me $720!!!!! I am a happy 74 year old retired Accountant

I cannot, thank you enough for making this video. I followed you step-by-step, and had a decently, easy and very successful install. I didn’t bother my husband with this, I didn’t overspend out a dealership, with your help. I was able to fix my upside down backup camera issue and feel super accomplished. thank you so very much!

This video just helped me fix my rear view camera and saved me about $650 from the $700 quote i got from the dealership. $50 for the replacement cam from Amazon, and followed this video to the T, and viola! no issues, and camera now works 100%!

Thanks so much for the video. It was more than helpful. Replaced my back up camera on my 2011 Ford Edge based solely on this video. Saved me over $400.00 doing it myself. The only problem I ran into was putting the plastic cover back on. Those multiple plastic pins were a bit finicky to get all of them lined up correctly. But I finally got. Thanks again.

Process explained perfectly. Bought the OEM camera model from Amazon because I wanted the lines. The only change I made was cleaning under the panel because it would have driven me crazy knowing it was that dirty under there.

did you get the grid lines back with the new OEM camera? I have heard that even with the OEM camera replacement, the grid lines don't show. Some claim you need to take it to the dealer for some kind of "calibration" for the grid lines to show again. Just wondering because I may spend the extra $$$ on OEM if the grid lines work. I DO NOT want to take it to the dealer for calibration

    • @schreinermd
      @schreinermd 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@kevinhelfrich1705 Yes the grid lines were there after installing an OEM replacement. I didn't need to take it to the dealership. The new camera seems much clearer than the old one, but the old one was probably pretty dirty.

This is definitely the way to do it. I followed this step by step and bought an aftermarket camera from Master Tailgaters for $189. Dealership wanted like $1,000 to do it. It took me longer my first time doing it but if I had to do it again I could do it a lot quicker. The biggest pain was using the vice grips to take the last 4 screws out but everything else is pretty straight forward. Save a boat load of money and follow these directions. Thanks!!!

I did run across a significant challenge using the vice grips to turn the studs, they were pretty well rusted in. Bless you for making this video! I am a single mom and could not afford to pay the dealership to 1st give me an estimated price (a quote alone was $150) and then pay at least $1,000 to fix it. I was able to just pay for a replacement camera for $200 on Amazon and free labor from a friend. It took us about 40 minutes. Thanks again for an easy to understand and follow video. Fyi for anyone reading this I have a 2013 Ford Edge. My camera went grainy at first and then finally settled with the image upside down whenever I put the vehicle in reverse.

Just did this install on the wife's 2013 edge after watching your video.
Thank you so much for posting this, saved me a ton of money from the dealer.
The studs you have to take out with vise grips are a pain but I got em out and the clips you have to get out with the knife are a pain also but I got em out.
Camera was $49.99 on Amazon and took about an hour to remove and install. Dealer wants $800.00+ to do it.
Proximity lines aren't there but she doesn't use those anyway.
I could get dealer to reset camera and get lines back for $130.00 but are not needed really.
    Thanks so much.

Your video save me from lots of trial / error and swearing in my garage!!

    Excellent Video Leo!
Because of your video, I Just Finished this replacement in less than an hour. THANK YOU so much! My original camera was acting up for the last year plus (works/doesn't work/upside down, works and then turns off, etc...). After finding this video and ordering the camera on eBay for $49.95, I decided to try this myself.
I am NOT a handyman by any means, but following this video step by step, it was a success. The new camera I got is even better than the original one IMO...it seems to be a bit wider coverage and clearer.
I agree with others that some of the steps took a bit of extra effort. The stud removal part with vise grips was kind of difficult. I broke part of the plastic female portion where the post gets screwed in/out, but it was the second one inside , and still screwed in far enough when putting it back together it didn't really matter.
Also, the clip part with the knife was bit difficult as well, but it all went back together no problem.
Thanks for saving me hundreds of dollars, or actually allowing me to see from a camera again, because I would have never spent those outrageous costs to have it replaced at a dealer/repair shop!

Great step by step video. Just did this and took me much, much longer because I had a problem removing the double threaded screws. In the video, he showed using vise-grips to grip the top and turn to remove them, but I couldn't get the posts to turn at all without the vise-grips sliding (and I was worried about mashing the threads). I ended up stacking 2 of the nuts on the same thread, tightened them together with two wrenches, then turned the bottom nut to loosen and it will turn the whole post. Then remove both nuts carefully to not strip the threads. I also struggled a little on popping the assembly cover off with a knife to get to the camera housing like he showed. Need to be careful to not break a slot/clip.

@@EasyDoesIt2020 I couldn't get visegrips to work either, so got the idea from a body shop guy. Still have to be careful to not break the plastic posts that it threads into holding them to the back tailgate Ford panel.

Just headed out for Saturday honey-do errands and my wife thanks me for fixing the camera. She pointed out that this new camera image looks different.... So we put the Edge into reverse and Wow, its a much better image.... Now we can see the edge of the rear bumper & much better width & height of image. The clarity is much improved also. Think 170 degrees visual vs say 140 from ford camera....
Also, now we have a Zoom (+) on-screen button that zooms in maybe 10X on the center of the image....

Well, I'm definitely trying this. It seems simple and straightforward...moreso than paying Ford $603 to do this. Why Ford says I'll need to replace the molding I have no idea.

Did this last night. The back support for One of the 4 studs he uses Vise-Grips on broke loose (terrible design....barely connects to the outer fascia piece).... Took a bit longer to complete.... But video is nicely done !!!

Just replaced my back-up camera.Thank you for the video, fairly painless. Those retainer clips you popped off with the knife were tricky/ old brittle plastic. Otherwise not bad thanks.

This video was an excellent anger management tool!!!! Without it, I'm sure I would have ended up more angry than I can describe, and probably snapping a few pieces in the process. After watching it, the job was just one-two- three and it was done. I was expecting to have to get the new camera reprogrammed at Ford, but so far, it's back to working as it should...with lines and all. SO, as others said, an easy enough job and for the (Still Outrageous) cost of $272.00 INSTEAD OF $800.00 my dealer wanted. Thanks to Leo!!!

Fantastic video. Very precise and the CORRECT way to replace it. ONLY problem is that my image continues to be upside down. Any thoughts on what else it could be?

Make sure you have the correct model number for you Edge. Ford makes many different cameras with different orientations. They all have the same electrical connections. Also, if you bought a used one, it could very well have the same issue.

Leo did you get the camera from Ford or did you by on Ebay or Amazon? Ford wants $335 and they go for less than $100 everywhere else. My local dealership wanted $1100 to do this repair. WTF??? Thank you for the great video.

Nice. Many thanks. Leo, any insight into why OEM Ford Cameras require reprogramming? It's just plug and play, right? Would be nice if Ford squared off the studs that require vice grips, heck the height adjustment on my dishwasher and refer have them squared off for easy height adjustment on the legs. Any idea what Ford Service Shop Manual says what labor time to reprogram is billed at?
