besides the talent of Robert Klein this is a true treasure because if may be one of the first tv cable stand-up specials, if not the first one ever recorded
Robert always said he was the first ever to do a comedy set on HBO and here it is. I have always been a fan of his as he always stayed real to who he was and what he stood for.
Robert Klein used extracts of this material in his first appearance at SNL in 1975 when the show started to get in its own comedy tone very different of what Albert Brooks or Jim Henson had in mind for it
I remember seeing this on HBO when it came out. I loved it especially the finale. Still a teen in '75 when cable tv and HBO hit upstate NY. That was a big change for tv back then. No more 3 channels and having the antenna on the roof. Cable bought with it tv stations out of New York City and that bought ABA basketball with Dr. J and the New York Nets. HBO bought boobies to tv along with Klein and movies like Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Blazing Saddles, and Young Frankenstein.

Comedy had reached its height of sophistication & intellect under Robert Klein. I hope we find our way back to that someday.
Still funny now! Can't believe his act holds up in 2023!
Klein style is funny and witty, without being crass. I saw him live in the 70's, on the same bill with Janice Ian. Thanks for the video!
