    I’m so sad these don’t sell well, Holly. I’ve been wanting to grab a couple to do because they just look like so much fun! There are so many on the marketplace right now, too! I love this one, perfect color for Spring!

    • @ChicAntiquebyHolly
      @ChicAntiquebyHolly  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It really is disappointing, but I do think they're really fun to do, and you don't end up putting that much money into them because they are so small. It's a really great way to try new paints or colors and just have fun without worrying about selling them to make space.
      Thank you so much for watching 💜

    Hi this came out very sweet! I do a lot of JBs and I usually just give the wooden ones a good scuff sand but I guess since you were using a light color that helped with that also. Another tip is to use a strip of painters tape on the inside to get a crisp line.

    I thought about redoing jewelry boxes as they are in abundance in my local thrift stores, but the return just isn’t there for the effort. Anyway, good job, pretty refreshing spring color. Bloopers are the best! 🙌😂

    Love it! I have a question. If you have damaged the interior lining of velvet or whatever the interior is made of, is there any way to fix or correct or re-line the interior? I tried to clean my grandmother's jewelry box but messed up the interior velvet and I am horrified! Yikes!

    • @ChicAntiquebyHolly
      @ChicAntiquebyHolly  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thank you!
      Good question! I have another jewelry box video where I had to completely remove the felt lining because it had begun to mold if you want to watch that one. It is definitely possible, but the particular box I did it on was very difficult and quite frustrating. If the felt is glued directly to the wood surface, it may be quite simple. But a lot of times there is a cardboard-like material attached to the felt and then glued to the wood surface. This material is really hard to remove--and in my experience--tears about every 1/2". I spent countless hours just removing the lining. I may have just been unlucky in my experience--I don't know. I do know there are videos with tips on how to do it. I would recommend watching other videos and doing plenty of research before taking on the task. I hope it is easier for you than it was for me ❤

  • @pipicus2510

    The color is really pretty, but some transfers and gilding wax would be more fun. And what did you do to the velvet inside the box? How did you clean it?

    • @ChicAntiquebyHolly
      @ChicAntiquebyHolly  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are absolutely entitled to think that, but I disagree. Simple can be good too. I can't please everyone.
      I vacuumed the interior and cleaned it with a damp rag.

    Just a suggestion Holly ..maybe you Could Paint jewelry boxes for Christmas presents...I know I appreciate and enjoy a gift that someone took the effort and time to create for me...as I also Know As furniture artists HAVE to Have that creative outlet with either just painting bold colors that otherwise wouldn't sell for a bigger piece and For us to Just relax and Enjoy the process or reboot or practice a new technique....I Know I Definitely need that ...hope this helps😂❣️

    The cleaning must be done dry first. Hoover and dry brushing.
    Then wet.
    This might be a reason why people prefer buying new.

  • @freyja5653
    @freyja5653 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm puzzled why you didn't paint the interior behind the drawers, it would definitely put me off buying. Th

    • @ChicAntiquebyHolly
      @ChicAntiquebyHolly  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't see a reason to and that's my personal approach. People aren't taking the drawers out and looking at the inside---That's where the drawers sit---It's not visible. In my opinion, painting the interior of the box is a waste of paint. Additionally, with the drawer sliding in and out on that surface, the paint would start to wear down the paint over time.

    I like to paint jewelry boxes too. Loved the sweet color you choose, but I have to say, all tolled it was rather boring. Perhaps you could have decoupaged the top, and varied the color tones on the draws? It needs something more...

    The flocking or velvet on the interior was not glued back down nor was it cleaned. The bottom edges of the drawers was sloppy with overpaint ridges so either paint them properly or clean them off. The inside of the back and sides were not addressed at all and in places there was visable gaps that the paint did not fill. All in all a very poorly executed effort in my opinion. Now for the good bits, your love for jewelry boxes comes through in your voice and how you talk about them. Your color choice is very pretty and your voice over explained your process clearly as well as easy to understand, again in my opinion. Try watching your video, not while you are editing, and standing back to get a different perspective and asking yourself is it good or just good enough? You can create a very nice niche for yourself!! I wish you all the best.
