I only started watching women's hoops due to Paige. But she has opened my eyes to all the other lady hoopers (Zia Cook, Dana Owens, HVL, Aaliyah Boston, Haley Jones, Cam Brink, Caitlin Clark). I am so excited to see all these ladies progress in their careers
When I see Paige passing quickly and creating plays, it reminds of the NBA. I am not going to say names because people will freak, but her level of ball handling, being a playmaker, and a strategy maker is quite professional. It will be fun to watch this super athlete progress.
I'm coming back to this video because it's 2023 & I miss watching Paige play. Her basketball IQ is out of this world. Next season she's gonna be on fire
Her offensive arsenal is amazing- she can hit floaters, runners, off balance shots, get shots off with little space, uses her left hand, etc. I don't recall any of her shots getting blocked. Court vision is amazing. Geno is absolutely right when he said that he has not seen someone so young sense when it's time for her to help the team more by scoring versus running the team , as she did with South Carolina ( last 14 points if I recall), Baylor, and Arizona (despite the loss).
They need a very tall athletic woman. Thinking of someone like Breana Stewart. Probably no one out there nearly as good as her. That Ohio transfer player has a difficult time on her feet. Arizona really closed Bueckers down.
@@lecowardjames Some teams match up well or have schemes against one team (or player) and shut them down For example, Notre Dame denied UConn in the Final Four twice and Baylor broke winning steaks by UConn (consecutive game streak , home winning streak). Teams can shut down a player if they have the right scheme- Arizona is one game, but they could do it again.
A true generational player. Study her play and moves, a true UNIQUE talent. Measured against past UCONN hall of famers she has talent & ability few possessed.
Page Bueckers might just be the best kinetic jump shooter in basketball. By that, I mean she can shoot off the dribble while moving toward the bucket. The second-best kinetic jump shooter is going to be Caroline Ducharme. She has that gift of head faking, and then, dribbling to get closer at a better angle. Imagine the two of them in the same backcourt. That's what you'll see in February of 2022. I can't wait. The two of them are worth 45 points per game, 12 assists, 13 rebounds and 6 steals. Moreover, they will facilitate Kristin Willians, The Dodo, Edwards, Juhaz, & anyone wearing sneakers & a UCONN shirt.
For those who haven't been on a court. Sometime try a few three pointers. It is a big push to just get the ball to the basket, much less do it while trying to bounce a defender.
There is absolutely no reason for Paige Bueckers and Caitlin Clark to stay another year. The NCAA and WNBA have to amend their eligibility rules to allow such talented women to go pro after one year in college.
One other thing which was quietly mentioned in an ESPN article about this is that the next time the player's agreement can be amended is 2026. That, without significant legal action, puts the kibosh on this idea. Also, I agree that with the pay scale being what it currently is along with the number of teams it would be best for these women to stay in school. I also think that Paige indicated in an interview that she wants to complete her degree at UConn and set herself up for a future in broadcasting (or maybe even coaching), but she sounded like she wasn't going to leave early. She has a large (and growing daily into HUGE) social media presence which will translate into very large numbers for her, far exceeding anything she can earn with a women's league salary. Stay put, Paige. Patience, grasshopper.

All the best to Paige but Mcdonald was clearly the better player the year Paige won MVP , also Clark also a freshman like Paige led the nation in scoring, for Paige, things come easier when you have 5 star players around you, Clark did not. Today, there is so much parody in the women's game in college, looking forward to the coming up season. No clear cut favorite.
You are looking at this all wrong. Paige come onto a talented team with upperclassmen and was the best player and given a leading role from day 1. That is unheard of. An example would be Diana Taurasi when she was a freshman. She was little more than a role player her freshman year.
Also are you talking Aari McDonald? She put up less overall numbers on way worse efficiency. She also missed something like 10 games that year and her team wasn't nearly as good throughout the season. This is not a post season award.
@cobra7282 my vote would not be beckers , simply because when you have 5 star players around you , it is easier, right? For Clark, as a freshman, to lead the nation in scoring, having to play with new players and having defenses geared to stop her, you have to give her the choice over beckers. Both in their freshman years. That's why beckers as mvp was a joke as a freshman.
