When you have a game like WoT where everything is constantly changing and then there are tanks who stats don't change for almost a decade, you have a problem.

@@Nidhoggrr If the tank truly is as bad as you say it is, it should underperform no matter who plays it. Individual player stats absolutely determines how good a tank is. This tank specifically is a hidden gem that looks bad on paper, but is good in practice. A potato player will suck in it, but a skilled player will do surprisingly well in it.
For me personally, I'm statistically an average 49% player (even though my win/loss ratio on a good day is usually about 1:4). However, this T-43 happens to have the highest winrate of any of my tanks at 59% in 220+ battles, and is my go-to tank to just have fun with. To carry this point home, I never load gold in any of my tanks, I am too poor for premium consumables, and I don't run a premium account. I'm about as f2p as you can get and I still do consistently well in a tank you call bad because of its mediocre paper stats.
Not trying to start an argument, just merely pointing out a different side to this discussion that should be considered. It's naive to judge a tank based on it's paper stats. A tank is only truly bad if the majority of players consistently underperforms in it.
This thing needs to have the LTTB gun in my opinion. I've thought about this for years and considering how it's penetration is the worst on any top gun for a tier 7 medium, only rivalled by the VK 30.02D, it makes sense, like the 8,8cm L/100 on the Panther II
Omg yes!! I just wrote a comment like this as well. The T-43 with the LTTB gun and the Panther II with the long 88mm L-100 gun. Ez fix for both tanks.

@@D4rkn3ss2000 Yes, the Panther II probably could use a buff, but could make due with its current gun (maybe tweaked a bit). Unlike the T-43's gun might need to be changed to avoid buffing the T-34-85, but the 88 l/100 is just on the Panther II and E50. A slight penetration buff shouldn't make the E50 OP (which also has the 105 l/52). Note the the Panther II was buffed in update 1.10.1
The tank used to have the 100mm 1D10T gun aka the Idiot gun lol. Back then the 100mm was on the T-34-85 and all the way to the T-44 meaning that the grind wasn't that hard to complete.
It's basically just a T-34-85 with better armor. The gun kinda sucks compared to other T7 mediums but somehow the tank just works.

@@bednap922 And way more mobility. Unless the 85M got buffed since I last looked at it. From what I remember the 85M has the T-34-85's stock engine while the the T-43 can get the T-44's stock engine.
That's the thing with a lot of soviet vehicles. On paper they seem weak or balanced but in reality they ''just work'', as you said, or are overpowered.
@@cerberusrex5275 honestly i feel like it has to be the soft stats on the guns. on paper i feel like the t44 is a really mediocre tank, but in practice it was just so smooth to play. easily one of my best performing tanks, way better than i ever did in my t54, which is by all rights a much, much better tank
The T-43's only advantages versus the T-34-85M are: +1.8 p/w, +5% better ground resistances, +10m view range, +30mm of side armour, +15mm of side turret armour, -1 degree gun depression and higher module health. As for the HP, those come with the tier not the tank itself.
As for its disadvantages: -2 km/h top speed, -0.4 rounds/m, 0.1s worse aim time, 0.2 worse turret traverse dispersion and -12 ammo capacity (8,640 potential vs 10,800)
In other words, yes, the T-43 is really bad (and the T-34-85M is really good).
This serves as more of an indication of just how overpowered the T-34-85M is than of the mediocrity of T-43.
yeah it's basically a tier 6 tank in tier 7. In tier 6 this vehicle was above average, in tier 7 below average.

@@helmsgaming84 but T-34-85 with the stock 85 or long 85 can race aganist the 85M. 85M is just too armoured compared to the Tech Tree.

3:05 T-34-85M was more or less given out to everyone one when they buffed it. As they had a marathon with daily missions that were so easy even bots did it "most missions only had a win demand, no top 10 spots". It went from barely 3K on EU as it was trash before, to 300 000 in more or less a few days. It destroyed tier 6 MM... And it still keeps doing it years later, even with rentals.
I think the T-43 would be way better if it could use the long 85mm gun that the LTTB uses, albeit with better RoF and aim time, instead of the same gun of the T-34-85.
That's it, i want a 100mm

I even tried to use ramm tactc + 122 and to have fun. Sometimes was working and i was very happy! ❤️
Every damn shot knocks off a track or ammo racks, the armour is reasonably troll in the right circumstance.

I'm currently grinding the T-43. I got it a few years ago, and sucked in it, so much so that I put it away & left it. A few months ago now, I bought the T-34-85M, and play it quite a bit with a mate playing his, and learnt a lot about playing it. So much so, that I've pulled the T-43 back out, and I'm now enjoying it. Even though the tiers are different, the play style is similar. Another tank that's similar to play is the KV-13. A tank I totally enjoyed, and kept, until they refreshed the tech tree a couple of years ago, and it became a special sale tank. I haven't rebaught it, as I couldn't be bothered with regrinding it to elite it again.

Yep. The stock grind of this was brutal, but after that it was smooth sailing to the T-44.

We all know wargaming doesn't have russian bias, money grinding changes in the game or anything, just a good game dev that listening to the gaming community and makes the best out of the game...right? just play usa,britts, polish tanks for a year or so then go play only russian tanks and you will se your gameplay change for the better, much better! They have 1 million players on russian servers and 70k on eu servers and 20k on usa servers and Asian server is more or less dead. Don't you think they make russian tanks better in all ways to make the only server that's alive, alive?

Its a perfectly good tank, its good ground resistance make it feel more nimble than it should and the gun dispersion while moving means the aim time feels quick, the armour can also be troll at the right angles, it can even side scrape, I kept mine even after unlocking the next tank.
I just recently played through this tank to get the T-44 and I found the gun handling to be quite poor. The aiming circle is pretty big and the aim time isn't the best for a gun that only deals 180 alpha. That's with a 3.5 skill crew but I admit the mobility is actually nice
It's great with a 6 skill crew. Problem is, my six skill crew is in the 430 now. I've kept my 43, till I can work up a new skilled crew for it.
@@PunzL I had just played trough the t34 85 which for some reason the gun never behaved for me, I found the t-43an improvement, im basing it on snap shots not waiting for it to fully aim, I pretty much never stop to aim.

A tank that's on the border of being bad and good is the KV-85. It has a 100mm gun with a really good reload speed so it has great dpm, but it has a whopping 3° of gun depression so it makes it difficult to fight anywhere but a city. It's amazing how I got 2 marks of excellency on it.
I had an easy time grinding the T-43… it didn’t excel at any one thing, just great all around versatile medium. I didn’t know what to think of it going in, but it played well.
The t43 is beast. I think I had some of my best results with it, and put it down to the fact that the tank isn't good enough to try any risky behaviour. So if forces you to play smart and is good enough to reward that playstyle

T-43 for me was like the Comet or the TVP VTU, everyone said to me they were aweful but I've played them, I had pretty good results so I don't hate them

i skipped this one as looked at the stats and my 3485m was so much better so never played it but used to crush them in my 3485m i think they gave the t43 a soft stat buff about 2 years ago
T34-85m is just a t34-85 with a bit more armour. It was considered terrible until they changed the ammunition type increasing the alpha and thus the dpm while also increasing the pen

I actually have over 70% WR in this tank it's soo good, at the same time I have the T20 and have a 40% WR no matter what I do. I honestly think it's the mobility (quick hull traverse unliek the T20), accuracy, and dpm that just makes it work so well, and a little bit of armor to boot unlike the T20.
I think the T-43 was much better in previous patches simply just because of power creep.
When I had to play this thing I found the 85mm to be so frustrating between bounces, inaccuracy and a relatively low DPM that I opted instead to equip the 122mm derp gun (pre-HE nerf) and just chip away at enemies or fire HEAT and at least get some damage.
kv-13 is still the superior tier 7 russian medium
For some reason, this was one of the best tier 7 mediums for me in terms of performance. The armor is quite unreliable, the gun depression is bad and the gun is very mediocre. But man, did I have some beast games in it. Must be that Soviet bias.

I still remember when qb thinks that the T20 suck but proven wrong. This is very similar scenario.
I also thought it was bad but the more I played it the more I liked it. Then I 3 marked it...

I like using the Super Hellcat because I find it fun, but my god is it underpowered. I hate trying to fight T-43s in it because it's a tier 6 TD in tier 7 with no additions thrown in. The T-43 is capable of bouncing so many shots that I treat it like fighting a higher tier tank.

lol -- I played the T-43 for SO long, convinced that it had to be a better tank than it seemed, as a T7, and that it was just me not knowing how to play mediums. Which was still probably true, but I did eventually (after like two years) notice that almost nobody else was playing them, while 85M's were everywhere, and were comically better than my regular 34-85. Thanks QB for the confirmation. Though I also agree that the 43 probably isn't THAT bad for a T7 tech tree medium; it's just that nearly all the other Soviet tech tree tanks are so ridiculously player-friendly.

The T-43 was always a good performer for me.
even tho this tank is statistically very weak i did better in it than any other tank in the 430U line, the hidden feature of this tank is that it meets tier 5 much more often (in my humble opinion) than tier 9 and just the raw dpm helps you outperform other tanks, the mobility helps with flanking maneuvers and getting into a city position and take advantage of of your dpm around a corner with your front mounted turret all in all i would say this is the best tier 7 tank in the game (beware it has basically the worst armor for being a soviet medium)
I remember when t-34 85 at tier 6 had the 100mm gun and that thing was a beast before they removed it from that tank. I also beleive that the t-43 might have had it as well. I could be mistaken because I also remember wondering why it was an option for the t-34 85 at one point and but not the tier 7 t-43 . If the t-43 had the 100mm even with its lackluster armour and gun depression would still sit a lot high on the totum pole for its class at tier 7. And it's not like wargaming 100% cares about balance and historical accuracy because for whatever reason when it comes to soviet tanks they seem to let those concerns slide a little bit more 🤔
All the T43 needs is something to separate it from the 34-85. My suggestion would be another 85mm with 200/200/320dmg and 165/215/60 (around there) in oen firing AP/HEAT/HE and a reload that maintains or even increases the DPM to midway between the 3485M and the T44 with LB-1
SU-100 gun would be good, (with slower reload)
@@mumflurfumperdink2507 thought of that but that gun the D-10T (which is most notable on well nothing actually) would sacrifice imho the flavour of the Obj140 line, which is average to below average alpha (the T-44 is a major exception especially with it's 122) and good solid dpm. The D10T with good dpm at tier seven would be over powered and have highest in class at tier alpha (tied with T-34-1)
I didn't mind this tank. I got my only Kolobanovs medal in this tank as bottom tier vs tier 8. Admittedly that was a couple of years ago. Haven't played it for a while.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day. The T-43 is complete and utter dogshit, with which you can have a monster game once in a blue moon.
I remember, back in the day, when I still used to play this +%#@ of a game, I was grinsing this line. When I got to this tank my thoughts were, that this tanks was going to be garbage. Same turret and gun as T-34-85 at T6, with slighly better everything else... Boy was I wrong. Had fun with this one.
It's not egotistical to tell the truth. It IS the player that can make any tank shine. I consider myself pretty decent but often times when you have a good game,I know I would have been to aggressive in the same situation.
I recently went up to the 140 and at first I hated the T-43 but, while not enough for me to keep it, I enjoyed playing that tank enough to grind to the 44 in three days. That is not usual for me.
I found it quite enjoyable to play. It’s not op, but it’s not weak either. It’s able to hold its own on the battlefield.
Ah, T-43 is one of my go to tanks. It is a great city brawler when you can flank enemies and angle the front. DPM is ok but aim time is bad so keep close.

When I see a T-43 it is often a free or cheap kill with very rare exceptions as the T-43 loves to glass rack and burn never mind being fairly squishy.

When I got this tank stock it was horrendous. I could not seem to penetrate any shells and even if I did it did terrible damage but after I got the 3 gun (forgot it’s name) it was not as bad

This tank is the perfect choice for an underdog player. It was one of my favourite tanks bcz i was not spamming gold and just trying to have fun. I was even trying to make my own ramm tactic vs lights 4-5 yeats ago.

This tank is bad statistically, but somehow it works when you play it. It aint that bad.
I was genuinely surprised when I first played it, but it is now one of my Top 5 Tier VIIs
That's how I felt about A-44 too. I have better performance in it than with T20
IMHO the T-43 works because tier 7 has some of the more balanced MM of any tier; or rather, has some of the least unbalanced MM. Especially when top tier you don't have all the OP tier 8 Premiums; and as they're not premiums with all the gold spam that comes with; the programmed characteristics & statistics of the tanks works the way they ought to. Its the same reason the T-34-1 is a hell of a lot of fun to play. Couple that with most of the clan try-hards feel like their weenies get smaller if they play below tier 8 so they're not really around either and you get truly random battles with usually fairly well matched up teams. Tier 7 is great!
When I played T-43 years ago (T-62A was my first tier X) it was very good, but as I remember, it had 100 mm gun, guess the same one you can get in T-44. Don't know why WG changed it, balance issue doesn't make sense, because later they introduced T-34/100, which is same tier, neither 85 mm gun which is available in T-43 is historical.
Always hated the T-43. Always. Went from the T-34-85 to this thing back when this was the route to get the T-62a. Kinda the same as going from the T-29 American heavy to the T-32 when I was grinding for the T110e5. Good tank at its tier to a tank that was no better than the tank before it but now a tier higher.

The t43 needs the first 100mm of the t44 which is the same gun the kv85 kv3 and IS can use.

Everybody should think about playing the T-43, not because it's any good but because it's the only way to reach the Object 430U. Which as the most noob-friendly Tier 10 medium is something that should always be an early grind target.
Also, the T-34-85M isn't a T-43 a tier lower.
It's a T-43 a tier lower with 0.2 second faster reload and 12 extra rounds in the ammo rack.

I cannot say how the tank is now (for me) as I haven't played in over 6 years maybe 7... but in my recollection it was pretty good! I used the 100mm gun and I think I got my very first top gun in it. I still have its crew which worked its way up to the Obj 140.

Historically the T43 was a failure, and was pulled as the T34/85 was still superior. The M program was a modernization project in the 1960’s on various vehicles.
The dpm is great and its got decent gun depression
Today, 31.12.2022, your top gun is the 85mm, while it works on the T 34-85 it pretty sucks on the T 43.
If you are top tier, then 2-3k are possible, but T8 and T9 and most T7 can´t be penetrated from this gun. I haven´t even penetrated an AMX 13 75 from the side with Ammo 2.....but flanking, from behind or Artys are the only chance to penetrate something.
The tank plays overall good, but the gun killed it for me and I am happy, that I have only 20k exp left to unlock the T 44.
I miss the 100mm on the T-43 that's when it was fun to play!!

Back in the days this tank had T-44 gun with 240 alpha. So pool's medal was in the other tank.
When i was doing this line, it was by far the nest tank to play. Has a bad gun thats correct but my god i have no idea how does it outspot anything. It literally felt like playing an op light tank for me, how or why i do not know but it feels like it lights up everything
Well, it's always not recommended to underrate your oponent, even if it's T-43
The video says "This tank should suck", but in reality ALL tanks "suck", as in sucking large amounts of fuel, to move their heavily armored bodies.
Iswear to god, i have a worst crew in the T-43 that the one in my Leo (tier 7 swede); and theoretically the leo has better accuraccy; but i hit way more shots at medium and long range with the soviet.

Not gonna lie, when the score hit 3 > 8 and if I was driving that T-43, I would have drowned my tank while in the mid. Not going to waste my time in a battle that has low chances to be a victory.
