I think zombies make enough noise on their own to alert you to their presence. The cans would probably attract more. Also, if they move that slow, a couple of rebar spears would easily take out a whole horde if you keep the high ground at the stair corner. They can only go through the one spot at the top of the stairs, so just continue stabbing them as they come up. Easy! Hope this knowledge... Comes in handy

And you do realize... they were human, they're still stronger, and you realize there's a thing called fatigue, constantly stabbing and slashing a horde of maybe 10-50 will wear you out about a few minutes right?

Easier said than done. The can trick is one they use in the Walking Dead and zombies can be extremely quiet. You cannot be there all the time fighting the zombies so that hack is actually really effective.
