Camillus Carnivore X Titanium Machete

  • Quick review of Camillus Carnavore X Titanium. The guy behind me in line when I bought it noted "wow, that's a serious knife"
After a 2x4 Chop and Batoning thru a 5" half-stump it still cuts paper. I've seen lots of fail reviews on other Camillus Carnivores but maybe these new models are more robust. Time will tell. I'll update if it fails.
Check out my Paracuda FS Machete review here.

Honestly, I've used this set for everything from clearing 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch brush and, the smaller knife makes a great small game skinner, like a fixed blade oldtimer. The hook on the larger knife works well for dressing larger game out without having to worry about over penetrating the gut and, the blunt nose works great for gathering roots. For the price point, it's a pretty good sportsman's set. The saw back is even pretty OK for spitting sternum and pelvis

This is not a bad design for skinning and preparing game in a survival situation. It has a gut hook, it has a saw that could work to cut bone and you could even flesh out a hide with it. Plus the little knife can work for spearing and cutting up fish, with a saw blade acting as a scale remover. It is short and will not have the swinging power of other shapes, but still a functional design. I'd still use a larger machete or brush ax for cutting brush or limbs.

I use it for a splitting fro to turn logs into rough planks to make shelves or if I use a 1/4" drill bit to drill the edges of the shelves for pins made from sticks, I can pin the shelves together to larger tabletops or doors.

Why would you say that the tiny little knife is "superfluous" and you "don't know its intended use", especially when you're posting as a bushcraft channel? I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm just saying. I mean, I don't know what your level of expertise or experience in bushcraft is, but I can tell you right off the bat several things that little knife can be good for. It seems to have two small hex nut slots for loosening or tightening and you can't do that with the larger knife. It has small notches or indentions on the handle to securely wrap paracord or other cordage, so you can make a comfortable handle or tie it to a lance/spear and use it to kill small prey or possibly spear a fish. You can use that small knife as part of a small game trap and it also seems to have some hooks which if sharp, can be used to cut cord or fishing line... not that you couldn't do that with the blade of either knife, but the option is there. Lastly, it's another sharp instrument, it's not heavy, it's not obtrusive, it's not cumbersome, it's already incorporated into the Camilus sheath, that kind of redundancy is a good thing.
