Having just bought a WK-7600, I highly recommend this tutorial to anyone seeking to come to grips with this extremely comprehensive instrument. I spent considerable time choosing this keyboard because I required the most flexible range of voices and rhythms (but at a budget price) for composition , so I recognized it would be a challenge. However, when I first began studying the user manual, I found it extremely confusing and soon realized that it was not the best solution to learning all the complexities of such a keyboard. In just a few hours, these tutorials (I have just completed no. 7) have possibly saved me weeks of frustration. Congratulations and thanks for producing such a comprehensive series of tutorials; please keep them coming.
Such a patient, talented teacher you are! I have checked around and saw that your tutorials are still the top most valid ones after this many years, when it goes around Casio-ctk 7200/7600. Starting from this very first class, I have learned a lot and I am the mere beginner. Thanks and all the best.
Thank you very much for this tutorial series. I've been a professional touring musician for over 20 years and just got a CTK 7200 so I can stop lugging my huge 88 key Yamaha stage piano to local and regional gigs. Your videos are extremely helpful in getting the most out of this particular piece of gear. Very much appreciated, sir.
Thank you Sir, for this series of tutorials on the Wk-7600/CTK-7200. The way you've explained things it's really superb. The clarity of the content is fantastic. Thank you very much!
You are why I filmed my videos. I wanted to give what little I have back to the music world so that you can feel the excitement of making music, instead of the frustrations learning a keyboard. Thank you very much, your comment, you have given me hope today. We have given each other hope today.
I guess I asked my question too early in the process. After watching the second tutorial, I understand that you are going to cover my question in a later tutorial. Thank you so much for posting these! I find them very helpful.
Thank you very much for this first tutorial. I'd like to add something about the navegator. I noticed as well, when I push any of the right tone buttons, the highlight bracket will change to the tone section. If I push any of the left rhytm button, the highlight bracket will change automatically to the rhytm section. Other one I found interesting to change the sounds and rhytms is the mixer button, then I can use the organ bars to change the tones. Greetings from Tijuana!
Thank you for these tutorials. From watching this first part, I can already tell this will be very helpful for me. I just ordered, what I am guessing is one of the last of these workstations. I wrote over 200 songs and over 500 new age musical compositions with the Casio CT-470. In the late 90's I upgraded to the Casio WK-1630. This turned out to be a waste of money as this model had it's fair share of downfalls, the main one being it's functionality. Difficult for me to understand and was defective anyway. Biggest problem being the key response when attempting to change chords in accompaniment mode. Recording became impossible. It has 88 keys, so it's great for lessons, but record mode is no longer usable. I am in hopes that Casio got these types of bugs out of the WK-7600. The Ct-470 has a defective adaptor input, so the only way I can use it now is with batteries. The good news is it records great, even as old and banged up as it is from years and years of both home use and public use and ALL without any protection. I truly abused those keyboards and they still work today. Your videos are cool and I look forward to learning from your tutorials. I am also planning to take lessons this time around, so I don't have to waste so much time programming my music. Subscribing to your channel. Please check out mine and if you are properly entertained, do the same. You know the drill.lol And thanks again. Minister Wolfie out.
You are welcome. Listening to "The America Dream", this great fun music. The music isn't dark, just the lyrics :) Great song, music, vocals, composition all great! ....though I am hungry for a cheeseburger now. ...The Casio7600 will allow you record your own styles from a blank program, very powerful pattern sequencer. By adding the registration/banks on the fly you can have as many as 16 different verses and fills and 8 intros and endings. The key bed has excellent control/response for your skilled playing.
Please let us know what keybed you got on your Casio. My keybed is like the old 7500 Casio's, but the keybed of later models of the 7600 seem to be much better. Let us know if you got a quieter one.
Great video, but how does one have layered tones in the bottom half and a single tone on the other? It seems that by default the layer feature only applies to the upper half of the keyboard?
Sorry, the default is the only option. There isn't a way to layer the left split at all. By creating your own pattern sequences (styles) you will not need to layer the left split, the pattern can have 8 layers of tones and drums.
I am giving this keyboard to a friend and so ends all the tutorials on this keyboard. I am advising new buyers to buy the new series CTX...unless you want the drawbar organ feature that is exclusive to this keyboard.
Thank you for a great tutorial. I love the organ sounds and am really enjoying my new wk-7600. May I ask, in SPLIT MODE, how do you change your UPPER tone?? While keeping your lower tone?
If you have a split the display will only show you the split voice. You need to turn off the split and then you will see the upper voice. IF you have a layer AND a split you will need to turn off the layer and split to see the original first layer tone.
I know I am a day late here - really I have a Casio WK-6600. Do you have anything in your archives for that keyboard? Would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge of the casio wk - 7600 . I had such a difficult time looking for a new keyboard, and your tutorials made it easier for me to have a breakthrough, after months of searching. I also would like to ask if you have any copies of your teachings available for sale on dvd. Thanks again. Respectfully Steve
+Stephen Glenn Thank you very much. Sorry, no DVD's available, but the DVD would be the same as the TH-cam video, so you get them for free. If you have internet access problems, then I could produce DVD's for sale if the Casio Tutorials get popular on TH-cam (unlikely). Just curious and testing the water....what would you pay for a series of lessons on DVD formatted to play on a computer?
Well the reason for asking about dvd's is, one doesn't have to with the speed of the Internet, or buffering times etc. And at times they seem to disappear from the site. I was 12 min into your first teaching and I missed something , so I swiped the time bar to rewind the video and lost the video due to buffering. Now I'm not certain as to what it costs to produce a dvd teaching, but I've seen some as low as 20 dollars to as high as 70. Mark Almond at piano for life has very good lessons on learning to play. I figure that it would be a good place to start.
+Stephen Glenn Okay, I'll try it. The video's are already on my computer in MP4 format. So if you have a computer you could play and view these files on a computer by double clicking and opening in Windows Media Player or on the MAC..., but not on a DVD player device (stand alone box) for television. Interested for $25.00?
Hi I have now owned this keyboard for 4 years and love it. I am not an experienced musician and just simply play it---dont understand the technicalities. i have been unable to find a satisfactory set up to play guitars and music such as The Shadows. Can you suggest a suitable set up for guitars using just layers and splits and the function hutton please? In addition should you use layers when playing the drawbar organs? Thanks for any advice you can give
Check out the arpeggios for playing guitar, a guitar is difficult to reproduce with a keyboard without great skill because the guitar is played so much different from the keyboard. Yes, I would layer any solo sound for better quality, this way you can add something like effects to one tone and not the other getting all sorts of tonal changes through the time the note is suspended. Never thought of layering with a drawbar, I guess it would be possible, but would not sound like an organ anymore.
There isn't a bagpipe factory preset already in the 7600? I would think there is. BUT...I have never, NEVER, heard a bagpipe factory preset that was ever useful; 55 years playing keyboards of all kinds, never heard a bagpipe preset that sounded like a bagpipe.
Thanks for the quick reply .. any Yamaha MX 49/61 info sources out there .. I haven't come across much .. but going through this series should help tons! Thanks Much .. Happy Holidays !!
I just got my Yamaha MX two days ago, it is a great instrument. Just ask me anything. My latest synth jam #14 has the new MX49 in it. The white MX is on sale now for $70.00 off plus a free soft case.
Thanks again ..why not put up an intro tutorial (i.e - WK 7600) on the MX 49/61 series .. it should rank well on the search engine & seems to be a popular board. You could most likely sell the CD series .. I for one would be interested. Your teaching skills are very commendable and I am learning much from this series alone.
Fantastic ..I am digesting this Casio series presently .. I found a few more (generally} demo MX vids , which are not as useful as these tutorial videos. Best Wishes in 2018 & Beyond !!
OK, help, the arpeggiator button is shown on this video, but does anybody know where the tutorial part is on using it??? I see the split and layers being shown ,and can use them just fine. It's great to have almost a dozen hours of video to search through, but it's also difficult to find one specific thing with a dozen hours of video to search through! Thank you kindly. I'll try to look some more and edit this comment if I find it first.
Your answer is in this video I made: th-cam.com/video/FD7aekLPS9c/w-d-xo.html video. go to the 23:11 time marker where I begin talking about harmonize, which then leads to arps. The arpeggiators and auto-harmonize is in the same place, you just scroll past the harmonize options until you get to the arpeggio options. Make sure the black box on the screen (explained in video) is now on the arp instead of the harmonize.
Now I haven't looked at any reviews comparing the CTX series to the WK 7600 but according to casio they are only 61 keys. In your 5 part review of the WK 7600 you said you would never ever get a 61 key keyboard and I fully agree with you on that. Maybe on a synth but not for piano. Can you explain why you would now get a 61 key keyboard? And did you ever find a workaround for the problem that really turned you off this keyboard? ... the issue with the rhythm fillin?
Between the CTK5000 and the WK7600 the 7600 is the only choice. When I made the videos there was a choice, same instruments the CTK and the WK except for number of keys. Today, the CTK5000 has been discontinued so now the choice is between the WK7600 and the CTX5000 and 3000. The only reason to choose the WK over the new CTX series is if you want the drawbar organ and 76 keys. The reason I said that the 61 key CTK5000 was a bad choice was because of the octave button, you really cannot move the key pitch (play lower or higher pitches of the keyboard) in a smooth uninterrupted manner. The CTX series fixed the problem and now you can shift the keyboard to higher or lower pitches on the fly without interruption of play. The CTX3000 is one fantastic keyboard for $300. You would choose the CTX5000 only if you needed more powerful speakers, a microphone input, more professional features, and you DO NOT plan on running on batteries.
How to add auto-modulation on a long key press (on the right side of the keyboard, in a split setup) so the tone modulates automatically at the end of a long key press? So that I don't have to take my left hand off the keys and press the modulation button.
If I understand your question, you want to know if the modulation button functions as a toggle on/off or a button press hold and release. I don't know, I used this button so little I can't remember, and I gave my WK7600 to a friend and no longer have access to it. Sorry.
You can edit the modulation when you use TONE EDIT and save your tone as a user tone. Please see my tutorial on TONE EDITING. The 7600 gives you an option in tone edit to have the modulation immediately or delayed after key press. A delay variable from 1 to 64 or higher in the parameter.
Hold down the octave button until the display shows the function. This button has two operations; on is for layers, and the other with a longer button push is for Octave transposing. IF you don't want the whole octave, then use the mixer to transpose in fine tune or coarse tune. Corse tune in semi-tones, and fine tune is a 120 degrees of two semi-tones.
Yes, volume is done in the mixer, and tone changes in the tone editor. Sorry for the late reply, TH-cam is not giving all the comments on a single screen.
Is it possible to regulate the Volume of each separate instrument (including Rhythm track) in Split Mode ? Very helpful series of videos .. the Owner's Manual is not much help for me.
Yes, but in two separate procedures. Regulate all the volume levels of your performing instruments (left hand split - right hand - right hand layer) with the mixer in channels 1, 2, 3. NEXT; Regulate volume levels of the style by editing and saving a user style after your new mixer settings in the style editing function. See my tutorial on style editing.
...oh, I forgot....after setting mixer levels for your live performing instruments you will need to save to a bank and registration, or you will lose your settings when you power off or change instruments or styles.
Ur tutorials helped me aloooot.... Nice and tnxxx for the tutorials... I am loving this casio very much. I just have an important question about this casio if u have time...
@@funnzie how can I edit the piano tune for the most beautiful grand piano sound??? I've seen ur other video that u made the piano smooth using the mixer... But that is way to smooth for me. I want a bright, richer and rock sound... Or I want a real grand piano or upright piano... 😊
Use the same editing process as in the tutorial and use Casio's preset [ROCK PIANO] instead of the grand piano used in the tutorial. There is one bright piano layered over the softer piano, simply adjusting the volume of the two may give you the results you desire. IF...you are looking for a fantastic digital piano, then this keyboard is not going to produce it from the available samples and limited editing.
@@funnzie second question is: When I hold a key or press a key and then press the pedal, how can I make the sound to sustain for a shorter period of time then normal??? If there's any way that is... 😊
I'm sorry you didn't show the screen to match what you are talking about. I'm learning new stuff, but it would be much better reinforced if you showed the screen as you make these changes.
The 7500 seems to be all about a keybed that is not good. A new 7600 should be the answer and a better feeling synth action keybed. Even though the keys may be a bit noisy on a 7500, the key response is very good and very controllable for performance and feeling. So when recording obviously you won't hear the keybed noise...but for playing in the living room with friends the 7500 keybed may be too noisy for some. Look for a late model 7600 and test the keybed or the same instrument you intend on purchasing before buying.
Press the mixer button, use the arrow buttons to scroll to the volume page. You have 16 channels on the right side. Chanel 1 = first layer. Chanel 2 = second layer. Channel 3 = split. Channel 4 = harmonize. Adjust volume with the big data wheel.
There is not a button for it, but you can edit the instrument (tone) and add what is called "RELEASE". Please see my video on TONE EDITING. : th-cam.com/video/YATv5TCWfws/w-d-xo.html.
To control volume of the style, press the FUNCTION button to the right of the jog wheel, scroll down until you see ACCOMP VOL and set to increase or decrease volume. To adjust the volume of what you play live on the keyboard use the MIXER button move to the PART MIXER section to adjust volumes for channels 1-4. The mixer is a complex function, I have video tutorials on all of this at: th-cam.com/play/PLtrj7dkbby8UWW2HuIDclveKA-ycoKZo5.html
I have had students simply record their favorites on paper and the number of the patch (sound) for instant access....or save your favorites to the user category, for 100 faves.
i did not realize how cheesy this keyboards sounds are...the piano sounds like an old casio instrument from1982...i do not see any improvement as i thought there should be after all these years. The keys sound annoyingly clacky clicking loud no matter what selection you play. Glad these are on youtube to help me avoid these little kids toys
Please see my video to "hear" how this keyboard sounds: th-cam.com/video/qvjDHlWrYqE/w-d-xo.html The tutorials were focused on teaching not the sound of the instrument. The microphone makes these keys sound louder than they are...AND....there were two keybeds used on this 7600, I have the old one, the new 7600's use a new much improved and quieter keybed. I don't like the Casio sounds compared to higher priced keyboards such as the Yamaha PSRSX600 for $1000. You may wish to try the Casio CTX5000 for better sounds and the same features of the 7600...except....it will have only 61 keys and no physical drawbars for organ. See my Casio playlist for many more videos.
A W K Casio 7600 for 400 dollars key board record audio from a mic and separate for your guitar! Seriously, it is still the best available in this price range. Thank you for all the 7 videos and hours and hours of work.
I now have this wonderful entry level keyboard and this review tutorial was unfair, bull and just crazy. You still cannot get everything you get with this board for over $1,000.00. You should delete all your negative comments.
I liked this keyboard enough to video and entire series of tutorials on how to use it and get the most out of it. A ten part video series to help others. The negative comments is called truth, and Casio must have heard me because the replacement to this keyboard has corrected the negatives and provided new keyboardists first time buyers with a truly high grade keyboard in the CTX3000 and the CTX5000. So you can thank me for being the reviewer who fired a passion in Casio to produce a successor to the WK7600 that is absolutely amazing. 50 years as a musician and 30 years as a recording engineer means I have been through the entire history of keyboards, purchased them, learned them, listened to all the sounds keyboards have produced for the last 50 years. Any negative comments are justified when comparing the 7600 to the last 50 years of other keyboards. The sounds of the WK and CTK because of the price are allowed to be of less quality than a $1000 keyboard, this was certainly factored in when listening to the sound, but the sounds were some 30 years behind the times, that is not allowed. Compare this keyboard to its closest competitor the Korg MicroArranger and you will see how Korg used sounds from their previous keyboards from the year 2000 which are acceptable in a 2017 keyboard for the price. Now Casio has stepped up and produced a keyboard that I would buy today in the CTX3000.

+Richard Shannon Yes, that is why I made the tutorials, very little in English on TH-cam. Thank you for watching.

Casio has a video comparing the CTX5000 and 3000: th-cam.com/video/roIMF8eYt7M/w-d-xo.html
@@funnzie Thanks ! I also bought a synthesizer and been learning to edit tones for the last 8 weeks. It's fun but sometimes makes my head go dizzy : )
Can you please tell how to transpose just the left part of the keyboard post the split? Would really appreciate if you could help.
One added item, when you get the octave to display, each time you press the button steps you through layer1 / layer 2 / and split voice.
Question: is it possible to adjust the volume/tone balance between the different layers?
Yes, volume is done in the mixer, and tone changes in the tone editor. Sorry for the late reply, TH-cam is not giving all the comments on a single screen.
Have you got a fan or heater or something on the far left side of your studio? I can hear it running! No biggie, just an observation.
The sound is actually camera noise, the sound of the camera running. :( I am hoping for a new camera sometime soon.
Yes, please ask...
@@funnzie tnx alot
@@funnzie second question is:
When I hold a key or press a key and then press the pedal, how can I make the sound to sustain for a shorter period of time then normal??? If there's any way that is...
😊
I'm sorry you didn't show the screen to match what you are talking about. I'm learning new stuff, but it would be much better reinforced if you showed the screen as you make these changes.
The video is split between overall view and button pushing and then later I zoom in on the display for precise instruction.
What about the WK7500 . . . can you say what does and doesn't work on the 7500??
The 7500 seems to be all about a keybed that is not good. A new 7600 should be the answer and a better feeling synth action keybed. Even though the keys may be a bit noisy on a 7500, the key response is very good and very controllable for performance and feeling. So when recording obviously you won't hear the keybed noise...but for playing in the living room with friends the 7500 keybed may be too noisy for some. Look for a late model 7600 and test the keybed or the same instrument you intend on purchasing before buying.
Please How can I turn down the volume of the layer
Press the mixer button, use the arrow buttons to scroll to the volume page. You have 16 channels on the right side. Chanel 1 = first layer. Chanel 2 = second layer. Channel 3 = split. Channel 4 = harmonize. Adjust volume with the big data wheel.
How can I do the eco effect like apply a sosten to the piano?
If you are asking if the piano has a sustain pedal option; the answer is yes.
@@funnzie Hello thanks for answer.
And no, my question is if without a pedal Can I do that effect. Like push a button and make the same effect.
There is not a button for it, but you can edit the instrument (tone) and add what is called "RELEASE". Please see my video on TONE EDITING. : th-cam.com/video/YATv5TCWfws/w-d-xo.html.
@@funnzie Oh Ok perfect. Thank you I think it’ll help me.
how do you transpose sir...........from negative 12 to around positive 12
There are many way to transpose on the WK/CTK. The mixer - the transpose button - and the overall transpose of the entire instrument in semitones.
Like background beats
To control volume of the style, press the FUNCTION button to the right of the jog wheel, scroll down until you see ACCOMP VOL and set to increase or decrease volume. To adjust the volume of what you play live on the keyboard use the MIXER button move to the PART MIXER section to adjust volumes for channels 1-4. The mixer is a complex function, I have video tutorials on all of this at: th-cam.com/play/PLtrj7dkbby8UWW2HuIDclveKA-ycoKZo5.html
Please view this video for setting up your Casio: th-cam.com/video/FD7aekLPS9c/w-d-xo.htmlsi=0J9Oa6thYgZHwSOK
Takes too lkong to find the sound you want by using the wheel
😂
Are these tutorials helping you?
Rewatching all these videos to learn all about my new keyboard.
With patience you will become a master.
A W K Casio 7600 for 400 dollars key board record audio from a mic and separate for your guitar! Seriously, it is still the best available in this price range. Thank you for all the 7 videos and hours and hours of work.
Casio should be paying this guy for all the work he has done, the instruction book might as well be in Klingon!!
You are welcome. I am pleased to help move you quickly out of learning and on to making beautiful music.
S Kellet: thank you, I know the Casio interface and software is not all that intuitive. Glad to help!
