The Jet pin router came with something similar to what you describe. More than anything it got in the way. Further, and to that end, the debris can fly in 360 degrees since the piece is constantly moving. It is easier to simply sweep up later.

Had thin Temps and cutting with router caused nicks at times. We repaired them then made thicker copies to give bearing more room to follow. Saves original to make new ones when needed. Also we used wide tip marker to outline fir band sawing to outer edge then route to size. Not and issue for pin router obviously. Love his register pins. My tape comes from a framers device that has a roll of double sided tape. Eliminates finding edge of the tape you use. May try the tape Steve uses.

Here is an idea for Steve, make some male pickup shapes with a pin bushing in the center so a guy could make a DIY template for the exterior shape that locates off the pickup routes. It would probably be good to use double-stick tape to secure the DIY template for routing but it would make reproducing a DIY shape pretty easy and more than accurate enough for a hobby builder.

Grossly over priced. And the end of the day, they're templates, no matter the pins or what other inexpensive additions thrown into the mix. $250 to $350 for strat or tele templates, makes the ridiculously priced stew mac seem like a good deal (which, it isn't). they look like good templates, but you can't justify the price no matter what kind of praise is given. Now, maybe he sells just the two body templates at a more reasonable price (meaning, less than Stew mac sells 2 strat templates for, which is $157.38.

You can buy a Harbor Freight sander or a Festool sander. Everyone that has bought the Festool always wonders why they didn’t buy it sooner and would never go back, ever. Steve’s templates are just like that Festool sander and until you used them, you really don’t know. But not everyone can buy a Festool either….

With the price of good wood these days a great set of templates pay off their cost in saved wood and time. If you're only going to use them a couple of times maybe cheaper MDF templates are for you. But for many people these templates are a good choice and deal. They aren't priced too much, you just don't want them enough!

@@cragmoredigulbot4207 For guitar bodies i'm using Alder, basswood, poplar, some ash, it's fairly inexpensive, (So are sheets of 1/4 inch acrylic) I just make guitar bodies for myself (i play guitar more than build) so i don't buy it in bulk. Very helpful though, thanks for your input.
