In this clip, Boosie reacted to Quality Control selling for $300 million, and Boosie pointed to a lot of artists selling their catalog. When asked about selling his catalog, Boosie revealed that he doesn’t own his old music, but he added that he’s interested in selling his new catalog. From there, Boosie spoke about knowing when to sell at the peak, and he added that it hurts CEOs to see the worth and money drop with your label. If you think about it one of their biggest asset (Migos) will never be able to probably generate the way they used to along with the problems they are having they may never sign off another full Migos project. There will never be another Bruce Springsteen where he was making millions off of his back catalogue every year without needing to put out albums. Owning your masters mean nothing now.
It’d be the worst mistake you could make. I really don’t understand advising an artist to sell their masters or publishing. You hear all those 70’s songs playing during those Bounty commercials. They can do that because they own their masters and publishing and get hella paid. Yes, the music industry isn’t what it used to be, but if someone’s willing to pay 100 million dollars, then you better believe it’s got some value. If it didn’t, they wouldn’t be buying. They ain’t in the business of giving away money.

You can remaster your songs and rerelease an album 20 years down the line. And you can license or sell percentages of your songs. Etc, etc
I could go on. If someone’s willing to buy your catalogue for 100 million, than you can bet your bottom dollar, they’re worth more than that. People don’t buy things that have no value. They’re not in the business of giving their money away.
