Sir, this is my 9th time watching this video in last 4 years. It is a masterpiece in understanding the civil military dynamics. He shared some great insight to what leads to a military coup. How public office leaders hand pick an army leader and give extensions for a selfish and malicious reason then the same COS think why should I not just take over. Wah Wah Wah.

Farukh Sohail sab after watching this interview I am convinced that it was the most difficult interview to conduct with Gen FA Chishti who had been at the helm of intricate affairs. The way you had conducted this interview compels me to establish this opinion that I have never witnessed such a comprehensive and candid interview .Hats off to you sir for your valour

During Sikander Mirza time the situation of the country was not getting under control and it was decided by Sikandar Mirza to impose Martial Law. Ayub Khan took the advantage of that situation and forced Sikander Mirza to leave the country or get ready to die. Ayub Khan was a power-hungry person. In 1964 election he won the election by rigging the ballot boxes. The people all over Pakistan came out on roads to protest and started losing control. Ayub Khan sent commandos to Kashmir, resulting in 65 War between India and Pakistan. Pakistan lost the War. Pakistanis were under shock and after three years of time finally, Ayub Khan resigned and handed power to his second in Command Yahya Khan who lost 71 War and lost East Pakistan. The second Martial Law was the result because of power hungry Bhutto who brought the army to impose Martial Law.

For example, no need to talk about 1954 and 1963-64 and Turkey training bla bla.

Sir, World over it is believed and practiced that Armed Forces are professional personalities trained especially for neutralising efficiently external aggression. Their planning is always to protect themselves first before an assault is undertaken by them. Every soldier desires to do his best for promoting the interests of his nation. In contrast, civilian administration is committed to secure for all fruits of development of society . This basic distinction forges rarely both the purposes in one institution. Balances and checks on all institutions make a democracy vibrant and organic. This philosophy is followed scrupulously in India. That’s why a COS has set his foot down and told the PM not to go for a war now , if you want to win. She took his advice and very quickly later on won the war in real quick time in 1971. That mutual trust and confidence among the various institutions for their respective efficiency is what helped India stand in good shape all along. It is one of the secrets behind it’s rapid progress.

The interviewer is correct..his job is to refer to the incidents and that's what he is doing. It is the responsibility of the interviewee to clarify the point.
What I see these egoistic pak high level military officers who sit in AC rooms always try to grab the power. They can hang a PM but no-one can try them even after the military regime departs.

As always, truth lies somewhere in between. In 1977, I was old enough to HATE Bhutto and so I, like many other Pakistanis, was glad when the Martial Law was imposed on 5th July. BUT... ZAB had even more number of Pakistanis who were just silent, stunned by the coup. So this Chisti claim that whole Pakistan celebrated is an exaggeration! Facts are facts: Both Hafiz Peerzada (PPP) and Prof. Ghafoor (PNA) agree that there was indeed an agreement reached. But Zia ul Haq's coup plan on 3rd July must have gotten out to ZAB and of course Zia was going to mount a coup regardless of the situation. As for Chisti.. he sounds so arrogant against the show's host Farrukh. But still Chisti is mostly right on most things: Chisti had to 'follow orders' under the military command structure and he did.

Chishti's facial expressions, arrogance ,and denial of the facts has candidly given an expression he's lying. Why Pakistani politicians do not behave the normal way of politics. I am not a military person and die hard supporter of Bhutto in 60s and 70s. Once he became the prime minister he changed his colors and became corrupt and ruthless feudal lord. Why did not he serve the public and used emotions and slogans to rule. He destroyed the economy of Pakistan by nationalising the businesses reeling from loss of East Pakistan. Because his ambition to become prime minister of Pakistan, he did not accept his number two position in elections, which ultimately resulted of fracture of Pakistan. Bhutto. Oh I totally agree. You've said it. Such lack of interview skills leave the listeners dissatisfied. The interviewer I'm sure must b a great journalist but was in a hurry to ask all at very inappropriate timings and with inappropriate and rude lack of turn taking. He should have asked his lead in questions to develop the arguments to come to a point where his own question would appear to b v apt and strategic to get the truth out. The response of the guest would serve to reveal the facts. I don't understand what was the hurry Abt? Sadly, our journalists still need to go a long way to reach that point of maturity and professional excellence. But still a good try and good job. I got to listen to it today only, and with a newer light , after the 70 plus yr history of Pakistan and it's elite capture and exploitation stands naked before us.

If at 12:00 the takeover order was given & at 12:30 there was a press conference announcing the peace agreement, then at 12:35 the takeover order could have been withdrawn. Why wasn't it ?
LOL, when the sun rises from the west Peter, all doors of forgiveness close. 🙂 Once it was done only then came an announcement that agreement is done, and seriously till date there is no evidence of any agreement.
