That's the camera I fell in love with as a teenager. I saved $ from delivering newspapers for over a year, to buy a Canon SLR. Went into the store with $450 CDN, ready to purchase an AE-1. The salesperson put an A-1 in my hand, and I fell for it, hard. Sadly, that meant leaving the store empty handed, and delivering newspapers for another six months to afford the A-1 (with 50mm 1.8 lens). I believe the final price, including tax (and a package of lens tissues -- yeah, I remember that detail from 40 years ago), was $663. My original body has stopped working, but I currently have an A-1 in rotation that I bought off ebay for about $120 US.
Just some friendly feedback. Show the pictures longer, i had to pause the video the entire time, which was quite annoying. Record less of you walking without any purpose. Nice video nonetheless! I enjoyed it.
Great camera choice and nice videography. As others have mentioned you need to be more consistent with the time you allocate to your photos. Viewers want to see it for a moment and insert details about the shot setting (F-Stop, Shutter Speed, lens setting). Some pictures just flicked by and others were visible longer. Good luck.
+Omar M.Reboul as these shots were run and gun it was using the A setting on the lens and Av aperture priority mode as we wanted to keep the shallow depths to show off the 1.4 capability of the lens!
I've been debating which one is better for a while now and which one to get. I'm in doubt between the Canon A1, Canon AE-1 and the Canon F1 New. What is your opinion on this? I would love to hear anyones advice haha I'm kinda lost
The F1 is a heavy brick. And it doesn’t have the nice led readout in the viewfinder like the A1. The A1 is light and more compact than the F1. Pick your poison, you may up with both!
Maybe its because you shot wide open for most of the shots but they look very soft. I think if you shot at f/7 or so you could have gotten sharper images. It could simply be a personal preference thing though. Solid vid though.
+Philip Graham I know they’ve definitely held their / increased in value over the last couple of years. Film is on the upswing which is a great result :) sometimes you can get lucky at pawn shops / 2nd hand stores for good deals too. This was purchased from a university’s for sale fb group from a student

+Doug Hall that’s an awesome story! Thanks for sharing. We definitely love shooting with it , amazing camera
Nice story !
Lol this is like 73% you walking really stiff and like 27% photos taken. Good video otherwise!
+Devin Ingram haha isn’t that the ratio how taking photos is in real life tho🤣

@@pedroaparicio9357 LMAO

+Niels Slieker thanks for the feedback! still experimenting, will keep that in mind for next video.
Second this
Yeah there is more of you walking around looking like a super cool zombie than the pics
Ahh does anybody see the shot he could've got at 4:50-4:52 in the puddle with the old lady. Nice vid!
Was thinking about puddle chasing, but difficult to do with the viewfinder of an analog camera ;)
Good eye. Would have been a dope shot
You got some excellent pictures. After selling three of these from my collection, I ran across another one and had to buy it AGAIN!
Thank you! It’s a rockstar camera
love the shot at 5:26 and quite the colorful city indeed!

+Aristo Ioannidis thank you!

Excellent
+Mark Mackoviak thanks!
Hi, u rated the film at 200 ASA and developed at 400 ? Colours are GORGEOUS !
Great video- novice question- since you shot down to 200- how would you send it out to the lab, minus 1 stop?
Aye! Welcome to Miami man!
+Kevin M Marcus thank you!!
Now o will buy this canon, o started with a Olympus Pen EE-3, now o want a professional camera, i think that is a good one, A Hi From Brazil🇧🇷
+Flavio Roberto Linhares the canon a1 is a staple of any collection!
it’s not a pro body by any stretch
Your vídeo have a good vibe, nice
+Flavio Roberto Linhares thank you!
I know there is a filter there where it mimics the aesthetic of canon A1. Or presets in VSCO...

The canon f1 is awesome with the top down viewfinder. It's the more premium version compared to the canon a1
The F1 is a heavy brick. And it doesn’t have the nice led readout in the viewfinder like the A1. The A1 is light and more compact than the F1. Pick your poison, you may up with both!
T90.
Nice. Did you shoot wide open at f1.4 on aperture priority?
+Aperture yes! All the shots in this video were aperture priority , was very run and gun
@@FocalCollective what was your overall settings?? The images look awesome
@@Johnnycoretv aperture priority and kept aperture between 1.4 - 2.8, shot at ISO 200 disregarding the box speed of 400. :)
Cool camera👍
Love it! I just ordered a Canon A1!! What lens are you using?
Sorry, you say it later in the video and OMG I got the same lens #yay

+The Blue Bride it works well with that too! Just need cheap fd to next adapter
+The Blue Bride Lolol
Is that 1.4 or 1.8 ?
I can’t find a 1.4 anywhere
+Jake Henderson its a 1.4 ! Try going to a local camera store I was just at one and saw a bunch
Focal Collective thanks!

Sick! What lab are you sending your film too?
+Spencer Whiteman this was Darkroom Lab !
With sunglasses on?
Great video man! Really like the mood.
What are the song’s names?? :O
Great video! What did you film this with?
+JP Jeanes thank you! This was shot on a Sony A7iii and the drone shot was on a Mavic 2 Zoom
Can you tell me second song name please. This song really stuck in my head.
Nguyễn Việt Tiệp same
are you still wondering what the song is ?
@@ethane.p.q8149 I'm still :))
How do people rate this to the Nikon F3?
+Erik Leypoldt relatively similar !
You should change the title to one walk with the A1. More walking footage then the actual footage from the role
Great shots…. Like way better than me…. But this dude is kinda a goofball 🤣
haha thanks - th-cam.com/users/frameworkfilms or @MikeLindle on Instagram for more.
1:01 - yup you fucked THAT one up.
haha it's just the beginning of the roll
This video looks straight out of GTA
Haha thanks! Was fun to shoot 👌
What’s your IG
Jake Henderson - @focalcollective / @mikelindle (photographer) / @drewfolgmann (videographer)
Thanks for asking! Hope you enjoyed :)
Nice video but not a single photo that I liked.
+pster76 sorry we didn’t live up to your expectations 🤣 we are just having fun shooting film. Not trying to win a Pulitzer Prize.
@@FocalCollective Ok no worries
60$ for a canon a1... impossible today.
yup haha not possible today. purchased that in Sydney back in 2013 for $60 (AUS)
$60 AUD lol, I'm in Aus and have been looking for a rlfew weeks, they are all $350 to 450 AUD these days
Yeah haha the 2013 prices are not the same as the 2024 prices
These cameras go for a lot more money these days :(
