  • One of my favorite scenes from Trails in the Sky 3rd, which also makes it my fave Olivier scene (amongst many fave Olivier moments).

Cold Steel is just Olivert and Osbourne playing 4D Chess and this was the opening move.

And then Musse came in and tried to make it a three way thing...
I was hoping for a lot with her character and was sorely disappointed that they tried to weasel her in as a "political competitor" out of nowhere. It should've stayed as Osbourne vs Olivert vs Ouroboros.

@@kawashinimonwell they needed someone to represent the noble heritage for going against osborne since duke cayenne was in prison and they had forgotten to use Jusis for this purpose as well.

Honestly, I was fine with Musse being a big brained character, but her doing a "Yeah, I kinda predicted everything that was going to pass, the only ones I couldn't fully figure out were the supernatural elements." It would have been fine if she had a bit of Lechter's intuition that can sense a vague "something big was coming," then when major stuff occurred like the Crossbell incident or the Infernal Castle, that would allow her to channel a bit of Claire's analytical processing to understand what's happening. Of course all of this while having someone like Aurelia Le Guin informing her of major events all throughout the planning process, so she can conjure up to something akin to what we see her doing in CS3 and CS4. This actually gives her a massive giga brain while also still showcasing she has limits to her analytical prowess, instead of having this Mary Sue esque "I basically had an idea of everything that was about to occur" that we actually get from her.

But then Rufus came out of nowhere and weakens Olivert and most of his connections throughout Crossbell

Spoilers for all of Cold Steel below.
Is it me or was the Olivier and Osbourne dynamic not as well fleshed out as it could have been. Of course there were many hints here and there, but most of them boiled down to "Osbourne kinda fucked with Olivier the entire time." I get it was supposed to be showcasing a sorta passing of the torch to Class 7 and especially Rean to fight Osbourne, but I would have preferred more of a joint forces. It felt more like Olivier just fully placed all of his hopes on Rean and Class 7 to win the day, which I think sucked considering the very strong opening declaration of war here in Star Door 8. Yes, I understand that Class 7 in its inception was Oliver's idea, and so technically it was Olivier who forged the arrow that is Class 7 that brought down Osbourne. But I still think it should have been Class 7 reaching the stage where Olivier was at, then combining forces, not Class 7 completely surpassing Olivier. Look, I just love the spoony bard, I wanted him to have had a bigger role in this war against Osbourne than we ended up with.

@@PawnProdigy24 No, I fully believe Olivier should have had a bigger presence than what Cold Steel gave us. Again, you don't have that badass of a war declaration and not have him be a staple contender against Osbourne in the end. I mean, he needs to also be a part of setting Cedric right. I get that Cold Steel is like Rean and both of Class 7's story, but goddamn did they need to flesh out and properly conclude Olivier's war with Osbourne like how they fully fleshed out and concluded Renne's story in Crossbell.

Okay I might sound dumb and I really enjoy this scene but I do understand how Olivier saying he hopes everyone aboard the ship has a good day is a declaration of war?? (I have only played the first three games so maybe I’m missing some context??)

Basically, Erobaina-NotGermany has two main factions. First is the Noble Faction, which comprises Nobles who wish to keep their Status-quo with them on top in their society. The Second is the Reformists led by Osborne, which comprises commoners and some sympathetic Nobles who wish to remove/diminish the power of Nobility, along with huge expansionism plans as well. The Reformists made a lot of head way which made the Nobility scared for their power.
The two factions' power plays on each other, which makes it obvious there will be a Civil war soon. Osborne wants this because if he wins, he can paint the Nobility as tyrants. Which brings the conflict with Olivier into view. As I said before, the civil war is brewing, and Olivier wants to stop it or, at the very least, minimize the damages it will cause.
Now as for Olivier's "Good Day" to Osborne, it's really simple. Olivier and Osborne are political rivals, nothing more, nothing less. Olivier agrees with most of Osborne's reforms but doesn't trust the man. "He had an entire army of steam power tanks that have not been used in a decade, right when the country he failed to annex a couple years ago. Suspicious!" So yeah, Olivier sees Osborne as a rival but not as an enemy.

Just beat cold steel 4 and came back to this. Not the biggest fan of the cold steel arc compared to the others but I’m happy I played it all the same
