  • The W212 Mercedes E-Class is a pretty common car, but when you have an unusual combination of options, some parts can be hard to get - and hard to get can mean expensive.
    Shortcuts:

    0:33 - Why so expensive?
    2:57 - Why we need new struts

    Working with high pressure systems can be dangerous. Be sure to safely vent your air suspension before working on it.

    OMG bro you are the best videos with lots of great information and very well explained every step thanks so much now I know where to start looking for my leaks for my 2012 CLS550 leaks my left hand side .
    Where should I buy the parts? Valve , compressor, fittings hopefully I don’t need the struts.
    Thank you God bless Man 🙏🏻

      Thank you, I'm glad you found this helpful! For parts, I like to check FCP Euro since they usually have multiple choices. Pelican Parts is also a good option. For your strut leak I'd check the fitting at the top of the strut and the fittings at the valve block with soapy water. In my case the main leak was at the valve block where the line had cracked, so the original valve block was probably fine (I actually kept it as a spare).

    Those struts are crazy expensive, but the cold start of that V8 clearly makes it all worth it!

      Yes! It's a great combination of power and comfort.

    Hi again! One adittional question. Why do you replace the Old air line screw? It is there any reason you can't you re-use the OEM? It would just be connecting the OEM...I'm missing something?

      I think if the o-ring on the original fitting looks good, you should be fine. I would keep the new fitting just in case, so you can replace it if needed.

    Im at 180,000 km on my e550 its been a tank, but my rear hydraulic shocks were leaking. Replaced with arnott, didn’t realize until after install they dont support ADS…
    Now im having to replace my front air struts due to my right front struts going down over night. I ordered arnott front air struts.

      It's a really nice car!
      Let me know how the ride is with the Arnott air struts! I have Arnott air springs on another project and the ride is nice, though they came with the vehicle so I couldn't compare with the factory setup.

    Great video! It is possible to replace only the top mount?

    • @frenchineer
      @frenchineer  21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Do you mean replacing only a part of the suspension strut? I'm not sure if that's possible with the airmatic struts.

      @@frenchineer yes, how the top mount is fixed to the big black cup? I think It is machined with rivets. Any info?

      Unfortunately I don't know what you would need to do for that or if it's even possible, sorry!

    I am going to change them at 250'000km, found rebuilt pair from arnott for 1500€ here in Europe.

      Arnott is a PITA. You can found OEM in eBay Germany at the same price.

    Do I think you are headed for financial ruin?! I sure hope not. Yes it was super expensive but at least the labor is free!😂😂 Can't wait for the next video. Hope the next job is cheaper!!😅

    • @frenchineer
      @frenchineer  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, doing the labor saves a lot! And yes, the next job is much more reasonable fortunately.

    The costs are significant. I have a BMW Motorrad credit card to at least get cash back on all the money I spend on motorcycle parts. I will say the dealership, though, is amazing, at least.

    • @frenchineer
      @frenchineer  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Nice! BMW does a good job supporting their classic cars too. Which motorcycle do you have?

      @@frenchineer it’s a ‘19 R Nine T Pure. I bought it used and have been removing the Amazon accessories and restoring it to OEM. Hence the large part expenditures.

    • @frenchineer
      @frenchineer  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That does sound like it can get costly, but it'll be super nice one you're all done.
