It is also important to note that you can only spend a maximum of five years on the JET program. With Interac however, you can work for as long as you choose. Whether 1, 5, 10 or 20 years.
I wouldn't recommend working under Interac for any longer than 5 years anyway. If you're working for that long, it'd be better to look for better work under a local private company.
@@NPC_Algernon hii!! Do u think its possible to do that on the get-go like would it be possible to apply from outside to a local private company, i can guess it'll be very hard but i would really like to hv another option if i don't get accepted by jet or interac even tho i don't even want to rely on any of them but yeah...
Great video as usual Tomi but let me clear up a few misconceptions about Interac. Not all ALTS work the full 40hr work week. Some ALTs don't go to school everyday as it depends on the schedules of their assigned schools, but are still paid their full monthly salary. The ALT is on-call but they almost never call you for work so it's a free day off. They don't work anymore than 22 days per month. Full time ALTs work from 8~4 while pt work maybe only till 3:30 ( depends on prefecture and BOE). Interac ALTs salary also differ based on the BOE they are assigned to. The base salary was officially ¥230,000 per month but they regulated it to ¥215,000 to offset August & December which ALTs used to only get 50% &70% respectively. All Interac ALTs get allowances bringing up salary to as much as ¥260,000 per month. Yes, They get 10 vacation days for each year, 5 are pre-planned by the company and the other 5 is free range but also they can be accumulated year after year based on your contract. You don't loose them. Another thing you could've added was that JETs get subsidized apartments while for Interac, it depends on the BOE and if they have teachers housing.
Thanks so much for sharing! I definitely didn't understand the interac salary enough to delve into it this much because all my sources were giving me varying information. Additionally, I didn't mention that JETS get subsidized apartments because not all JETS get it and it's very rare as I do not live in a subsidized apartment and neither do any of the five JETS that live in my vicinity but you are correct some jets do get some subsidized apartments. Thank you so much for watching and sharing! ❤️
You definitely have some quality content for anyone considering traveling to Japan to teach. I love Japanese culture and would love to visit one day, but I know I won’t be moving there to teach anything, but this is still so fascinating to know that you can teach English in Japan without having learned to speak Japanese....
Moving to another country is never an easy decision, so big props for you for doing that, and being an English teacher to foreigners is no easy job! Wow you were transparent about the salary for each program! I mean let's face it, that's what people really want to know! I hope you enjoy working in Japan, make new friends and maybe pick up the language soon! (I heard it's not easy)
Good stuff! Some of the stuff about Interac has some technical errors but generally most of what u said is correct. Long story short, JET, walk and guide yuh wid nuff money vs Interac, sink or swim wid likkle bit a money!
I would have said the lower salary from Interac might even out with JET after rent and car but I dont know if rent is higher for JET or if their car is paid by the company. At Interac my car and fuel for the month was covered and my rent was about 550… after all bills and rent i was leftover with about 1300 a month.
That how I used to think about it too lol...but now after researching for this video I think with programs have their pros and cons. It just depends in what you want
I have worked for Interac never for JET but I heard it the best program so far. Cons I think is after 3 years you can’t work with them . It that true? But I want to work with JET someday.
The limit for the jet contract is actually five years but if you were assigned to be a high school JET you can only work in the high school for three years then you have to move to an elementary school to complete the remaining two years. At least that is how it is in my prefecture
When I was in Borderlink (2017-2020) having the summer off seemed great but it also meant finding money elsewhere (if you didn’t save) because you had no work. So working through summer is better option over all. Also...I bet teachers would let you off early a lot.
One thing to note though is that it is difficult to get in on the JET programme. I applied to both JET and Interac this year, I hot through with Interac however I was placed on an alternate list for JET... which means that I don't know if or when I'll be upgraded as a shortlist candidate.
This is definitely true. JET tends to be very competitive as it does offer a better deal especially when you look at the fact that you won't have to pay for a flight to japan or a flight back home. I hope you get upgraded though! ❤️ thanks for watching
@Timmy Gabbie have you been upgraded yet for JET? In the process of sorting out my Interac application but I'm turned off my another $5000 which they are saying is for an online seminar. Is there an age limit for applying to interac and can a 3 year Diploma in English cut it with Interac ?
Question for you....if you only do say 1-2 classes per week, is your salary fixed or based on the hours you do? Also, as you said there could be days you don't teach, can you travel or enjoy yourself or are you still doing non-teaching work??
Assuming you are talking about the JET program it doesnt matter how many classes you teach your salary is fixed. Also you have to be at work on all work days regardless of whether you have classes or not.
Nice comparison! When I first came here I came over with Interac and my jet friends did say jet people get nuff more money haha. New subbie here !
Lol Thank you so much for watching and subbing!
hey , I am in 4th year of my graduation and most probably get my degree by august 2021 .so I want to ask that can I apply for a ALT job now or wait for my graduation to complete. by the way love your content.
I think you should go for it! I applied before I had my degree in hand and it all worked out. However, every embassy is different but, better to try and fail than to not have tried at all right?
Good job sweetheart!
A question I have seen no one address- do you have to be fluent in Japanese to do this? Can you do this if you know only some Japanese?
JET says you don't need to know any Japanese. Many English teaching positions prefer you know no Japanese so you speak English only in class.
Hi Tommy! I'm from Spain, can I aply to Jet too? Thank you!
Hi there!
I'm not very sure so I think you should check with the embassy of Japan in Spain and they would be able to give you a much more accurate information!
Are you prohibited from working online jobs as well?
Me:think the navy was easier to get into than the jet program 😂😂😂but bet I'll try lol 😂
Lol i dont have enough knowledge to compare lol!
