@MemexGoddess tommy is loyal as all hell, which is a good thing but also a fault. Like when he turned against technoblade at the community house. He was still loyal to his nation and the people who were in it, so much so that he couldnt just sit aside and watch everything get destroyed.

Bc her story is as tragic as the rest of the men around her, and no one even notices her spiralling just like wilbur and how the cycle is continuing with her. That sequence of her reaching out to wilbur- how she too had so much hope for lmanberg and him as a person constrastint that scene of her outside the van with nlb’s cabinet discussing plans without her bc she is again ignored despite her sharing the same experiences w them as shown in the scenes in between and how it cuts to her burning the lmantree, watching the destruction and seeing the ghost of wilbur run to the other’s aid and never her, no one ever considers her (again contrasting that optimism that wilbur at the start gave to her when she joined lmanberg). And when techno and phil notice her she smiles, all teary eyed and it cuts to her now- worn out, in wilbur’s old coat still trying maintain her friendly and optimistic demeanor (be seen as clean), her plans w jack, and the small moments with h in the savannah, and date with puffy. And she sits behind the lmanhole, still tired but with her ring as the tune ends somber but hopeful just like her.
I just wanna add- the little tilt of her head looking over ghostbur fussing over the duo while mitski sings out “your not there at all” (1:04) i literally burst into tears right on the spot,, god.
Yeah. Like people think her “villain” arc came out of nowhere, but she was just as hurt through everything as all the other people of l’manburg were and she kept getting pushed aside, left out, and beaten down as she was trying to do everything she could for the country she *I think* grew up in and cared so much about.
I'm gonna be honest i thought Niki's villain arc came out of nowhere until i saw this and the comment so thank you for elaborating? i think that's the word. Now it makes more sense that she became a villain. ( english isn't my first language 😅)

I mostly interpret her to be wilbur’s best friend to be honest (tommy’s more of a brother/student than a best friend imo). So having wilbur leave her multiple times in dangerous situations and not consider her feelings was a huge impact for her. Personally think she isnt processing properly that wilbur was a terrible person (just like a lot of other characters on the smp) bc she trusted him the most so she tries to pin it on the people closest to wilbur. Again just my interpretation of her character

Speaking of wilbur the way she reaches for him and has that little smile and then he disappears !!! 4. The narrative keeps returning to her alone contemplating everything and then at the end the reveal that shes by the ruins of lmanberg on the stump of the tree, 5. this does such a good job of like. telling this narrative about how her relationships with others deeply impact her but also centering her experience and her pain and AAAAAAAA 6. The smile she gives to Phil and Techno is haunting. It's what she wants in the moment but behind it is just the anguish she's been feeling. God 7. And in the end nobody really understands her! Nobody is sitting with her by the ruins! She cares about others, loves others, but none of them feel what she feels!!! 8. The colors are so gorgeous you've absolutely blown me away, soozu
nikis facial expressions slowly loosing the spark and hope is pulling on my heartstrings rn and everytime i rewatch this i just notice even more things and details like how in the end shes tired and alone revisiting the memories, closing her eyes remembering everything that happened and what led to this moment
There really is not enough Niki centric animatics and I adored this. Mitski makes me so emotional and you just have a way of conveying all the hurt and loss that dsmp!Niki has experienced so well. One of my favorite things about this animatic was the incredible transitions and the small animations, being so beautiful and smooth as well as powerful. I loved Niki trying to move on from it all by partnering with Jack or her friendship with H as well as PuffyChu, my beloveds :,). It is kind of hard to put my appreciation into words but I absolutely love all the work that you do and I am always amazed with every piece of artwork that you make :D
niki's character is just so tired and sad and broken, and it really makes me miss the early days of the smp where she was just happy ( not throwing any shade to how interesting niki wrote her character to be! i'm just sad of how much heartbreak she went through to get where she is today ) she was just a very simple, happy person who owned a bakery and had fun with her friends who had given her a place in l'manberg. for that she cherished the place, the people, and the memories she made of l'manberg. niki's character didn't truly care for politics until they forced her to care for it - until the new president exiled her best friend and tommy, until the new president started harassing her for speaking up against his actions, until she watched wilbur lose his mind leading to his eventual demise after exploding l'manberg. niki's character was no push over like everyone thought, she was just trying to live happily. that's why her mindbreak when she saw wilbur log on was so real. it was so real because she just finished making up her mind as to where she stood, because there was nothing left for her to lose anyway - wilbur was gone, l'manberg was dead, and the tree had been burnt. but then wilbur logs on and as if the world was taunting her, she begins to freak out saying that he was dead and not real, and most importantly, never coming back. say what you want about niki's character, but you have to admit she went through so much that i haven't even mentioned here. and i have so much appreciation for her making the plot more interesting after the l'manberg arc was done. the animatic was beautiful and caught the emotion of niki wonderfully! great job! c:
I feel you on this. I love where they’ve taken the story now, but I miss the simpler, happier times. I first started watching after the first war was just barely won and L’Manburg had become newly independent, when everything was fresh and new and everyone was happy and mostly in one piece. The angst and complex storylines never cease to amaze me, but there was something simply charming about the ‘golden days’, y’know?

This was so good! I love how much thought was put into this--you even colored it as well ;-;. During that one scene when Niki was burning L'mantree down and she sees Ghostbur reminds me that canon Niki doesn't know that Wilbur died iirc, and she doesn't know Ghostbur was even a person. Canon Niki only thinks that Wilbur disappeared somewhere and never knew what happened to him. Amazing work of art and song choice. This was so very lovely to watch as it premiered.
Actually i think in one of Nihachu’s streams she said how she thought ghostbur was tommyinnit’s imagination and that he hadn’t really gotten over the death of wilbur. But for her wilbur was dead , so i guess im that clip she might’ve actually seen ghostbur for the first time?
Actually she learned from Fundy that Wilbur was dead earlier, but she believed that Ghostbur was Fundy hallucinating due to grief. That’s why she freaked out so much when she saw Ghostbur after the explosion.
Niki is so forgotten! Even when Tommy died and Jack was like “That was my thing” and he celebrates and rages alone. Forgetting it was also Niki’s thing for a long time..

The buildup and suppression of all her negative emotions at being overlooked); _And I am a witness watching it, I stand in a valley watching it_ (despite everything, Niki's still constantly disregarded and seen as a bystander. Also reflects the helplessness she feels as she watches her home wither and die.); _And you are not there at all_ (the absence of the man who lit the flame to begin with, who made empty promises and obtained her undying loyalty, who sparked her downward spiral; he's not there to watch it all burn.) 3. 1:13 The SMILE. This is incredible, I love all the little details from Niki's arc like her finding out about Ghostbur during the last battle for l'manburg and her with Hbomb in the savana village, and her being excluded from the l'manburg discussions, and literally every other moment. Everything about this is gorgeous

I hadn't watched this in a while and it made me cry a bit. I miss this era so much. School was hell, but I was so passionate about the dsmp, and the outpouring of art from the community fueled me. School's over now but so is this - my hyperfixation that I loved so much, and the fanbase overflowing with constant activity. Now I feel empty. I'd never have guessed at the time that I'd someday be yearning for those days, with the stress and misery I was experiencing. But to fight the misery of my real life, I at least had something I was passionate about, something that made me feel excited. Now, though my real life is a bit less stressful and a lot less sad, I just feel numb. I don't know if you'll see this, pomodoko, but thank you for making this. I mean, the artistic technique and execution are brilliant, that's why it was one of my favorite pieces of fanart in the first place, but it also means something special to me now.
This animatic introduced me to this song, and to this day I still think this song has some of, if not the best lyrics of any song I have ever heared. This animation is why I do not regret being in the DreamSMP fandom, despite everything that has happened since. Just beautiful how you captured Niki's emotions. I love how you characterized Niki beyond the stereotypical roles of "motherly" and "girlboss", as that is not very common within this community. The colours you used were stunning. Ive long since fallen out of love for mcyt, but it once was a great comfort for me during a rough time in my life. I had just moved out of my parents house and in to an apartment with my boyfriend i had a failing relationship with and a (then) very volatile roommate. Both of them worked days and I worked nights. I spent most of my week alone on my computer, painfully alone. Watching DMP and all these wonderful stories brought me so much comfort. When I first saw this animatic, i didnt just love it as an amazing testament to Nihachu's character, but it was something i felt so personally. I was often promised better out of people who never delivered, and i myself felt so out of control. The song alone, and believe me its not usually my kind of music, touched something so deep inside my soul that i buried and acted like it wasnt there. Again, ive since fallen out of love, or rather the love fell out of the content. Especially since Alex, Technoblade, passed away, it felt like the last genuine peice of realness died with him. This is one of the few animatics i return to, to remember what it once was. Amazingly done, and thank you.
Niki went through so much. Everyone talks about how Tommy and Tubbo were kids, but so was Niki. She trusted Wilbur and everything he did, she believed that he wanted the best. She didn’t know he was dead for weeks, but when she saw him as Ghostbur, all she could feel was so much regret and pain. He took her by the hand and showed her how to live, then burned that life to the ground in front of her. But she still trusted him, still cared for him. God nikis character makes me so fucking sad and this animation really just makes me so emotional, great job :,)
This is just so beautiful! With the emotions, the song, and the color scheme of the drawings are just so fucking beautifully put together. I also just love how Nikki's skin brightens when thinking of happier times and being happy but gets muted when she's feeling bad. I just love that detail on there :]

I like how this shows how she still misses Wilbur’s friendship and now sees him in ghostbur but knows it isn’t really him. Like she wants to go back to the real Wilbur not something that she believes took him away. Also I like how it shows she tries to find that same friendship in puffy but isn’t as satisfied, shows ho much she respected him and how she got hurt when he died.

I usually don't comment on videos but I have to get out how much I love this animatic with all my heart. I keep coming back to it, this has to be the 40th time I've watched it, and yet every single time it still makes me shed a tear. The art is absolutely gorgeos, the contrast between an older and weary Niki with L'manburg Niki is genuinly shocking and heart-jerking. I love Niki's eye movement and slow realisation at Wilbur's offer. I also love her reaction to Ghostbur, and her accepting the Syndicate offer. Her expressions were so well drawn. Then how she seems to brighten up when she goes out in public and sees her friends. The final drawing is perfect, it seems to wrap up Niki's character at the time perfectly, sitting in front of the calamity of her actions, merely reflecting and distant. Also the song choice is perfect, it was almost like Mitski wrote it for this animatic. Absolutely beatiful work
Niki's character is one if my favorites and i'm so thrilled she's getting the recognition she deserves, i'm so sad qhe gets left out most of the time, you know, somehow, seeing one of the only woman being ignored for most of the story is pretty hard to watch.... I don't know if it's just me, but it feels like back in elementary school boys wouldn't play with girls... Yeah, kind of annoying some times
Yeah I wish there were more women in the SMP or at least more women in the main story line. Niki joined the syndicate though and Captain Puffy is going against the egg so maybe things will change!

AAAAA OH MY GOODNESS THAT WAS ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!!! I feel so late to the party since all of the comments are from last week, but i’m glad i at least got to see this amazing piece of work!!! Seeing niki’s story played out like this is heart-wrenching, especially as someone who never really understood her character arc in the first place(i didn’t watch that many of her streams). The things she went through and felt, watching from another’s perspective, were unclear to me, but the way the story is told makes me almost cry. This is so beautifully done! I don’t want to sounds like a broken record by repeating the same few words, but i can’t help it!! This is amazing!! great job!!
This is the perfect animation. It’s so rare to find a Niki animation, and this one is just amazing. It radiates this hopeless energy. She’s lost everything and has no where to go, you can really feel that. I can’t get over the slight lean forward she does when she sees Wilbur. Just the smallest urge to reach out. You did an incredible job portraying that.

nikis facial expressions slowly loosing the spark and hope is pulling on my heartstrings rn and everytime i rewatch this i just notice even more things and details like how in the end shes tired and alone revisiting the memories, closing her eyes remembering everything that happened and what led to this moment

There really is not enough Niki centric animatics and I adored this. Mitski makes me so emotional and you just have a way of conveying all the hurt and loss that dsmp!Niki has experienced so well. One of my favorite things about this animatic was the incredible transitions and the small animations, being so beautiful and smooth as well as powerful. I loved Niki trying to move on from it all by partnering with Jack or her friendship with H as well as PuffyChu, my beloveds :,). It is kind of hard to put my appreciation into words but I absolutely love all the work that you do and I am always amazed with every piece of artwork that you make :D
niki's character is just so tired and sad and broken, and it really makes me miss the early days of the smp where she was just happy ( not throwing any shade to how interesting niki wrote her character to be! i'm just sad of how much heartbreak she went through to get where she is today ) she was just a very simple, happy person who owned a bakery and had fun with her friends who had given her a place in l'manberg. for that she cherished the place, the people, and the memories she made of l'manberg. niki's character didn't truly care for politics until they forced her to care for it - until the new president exiled her best friend and tommy, until the new president started harassing her for speaking up against his actions, until she watched wilbur lose his mind leading to his eventual demise after exploding l'manberg. niki's character was no push over like everyone thought, she was just trying to live happily.
that's why her mindbreak when she saw wilbur log on was so real. it was so real because she just finished making up her mind as to where she stood, because there was nothing left for her to lose anyway - wilbur was gone, l'manberg was dead, and the tree had been burnt. but then wilbur logs on and as if the world was taunting her, she begins to freak out saying that he was dead and not real, and most importantly, never coming back.
say what you want about niki's character, but you have to admit she went through so much that i haven't even mentioned here. and i have so much appreciation for her making the plot more interesting after the l'manberg arc was done.
the animatic was beautiful and caught the emotion of niki wonderfully! great job! c:

I love where they’ve taken the story now, but I miss the simpler, happier times. I first started watching after the first war was just barely won and L’Manburg had become newly independent, when everything was fresh and new and everyone was happy and mostly in one piece. The angst and complex storylines never cease to amaze me, but there was something simply charming about the ‘golden days’, y’know?

This was so good! I love how much thought was put into this--you even colored it as well ;-;. During that one scene when Niki was burning L'mantree down and she sees Ghostbur reminds me that canon Niki doesn't know that Wilbur died iirc, and she doesn't know Ghostbur was even a person. Canon Niki only thinks that Wilbur disappeared somewhere and never knew what happened to him.

Actually i think in one of Nihachu’s streams she said how she thought ghostbur was tommyinnit’s imagination and that he hadn’t really gotten over the death of wilbur. But for her wilbur was dead , so i guess im that clip she might’ve actually seen ghostbur for the first time?
she definitely saw Ghostbur after the bombing of L'Manburg, but was convinced that she was only hallucinating him out of grief

Actually she learned from Fundy that Wilbur was dead earlier, but she believed that Ghostbur was Fundy hallucinating due to grief. That’s why she freaked out so much when she saw Ghostbur after the explosion.

the thought of niki being a forest fire is so beautiful and painful to think about. she was a beautiful forest that was slowly burnt over time. he ignited her forest fire. that’s so cool yet sad to think about.

The way you draw the interactions between members is so touching, you can really feel the emotions in each moment drawn, the pain in nikis journey. This is so wonderful truly!
the colors are so pretty ;v; it's amazing to see a niki-centric animatic because her whole arc is tragically nuanced but still consistently overlooked
1. 0:34 The way she glances at Wilbur's outstretched hand/invitation to join L'Manberg, as if unsure it's actually being offered to her, before taking it with a small, hopeful smile, only for him to instantly vanish (in colors of yellow and blue).
2. 0:41 - 1:03 The lyrics fit the scenes and her character arc so well. _And I've been a forest fire_ (the anguish and inner turmoil she feels for her country); _I am a forest fire_ (Niki's crumbling mental state and gradual disillusionment with the nation she once valued more than anything); _And I am the fire and I am the forest_ (how she considered L'Manberg an extension of herself--a piece of herself--only to watch it bring nothing but destruction and suffering. The buildup and suppression of all her negative emotions at being overlooked); _And I am a witness watching it, I stand in a valley watching it_ (despite everything, Niki's still constantly disregarded and seen as a bystander. Also reflects the helplessness she feels as she watches her home wither and die.); _And you are not there at all_ (the absence of the man who lit the flame to begin with, who made empty promises and obtained her undying loyalty, who sparked her downward spiral; he's not there to watch it all burn.)
3. 1:13 The SMILE. If I'm correct, that's the "I burned the tree" smile? It reveals so much--all the misplaced anger, pride, and relief she feels at finally putting an end to L'Manberg. But just underneath, is her anguish, sorrow, and utter exhaustion as she says goodbye to happy and painful memories alike. (It was never meant to be ;v;)
4. 1:21 How she takes the coat and how Wilbur walks past, symbolizing the cycle continuing with her.
5. 1:33 - 1:45 I interpret these scenes as Niki trying to fill the hollowness inside her, the piece of her that died with L'Manberg. She needs somewhere to channel all her negative emotions and pain--so she works with Jack. She turns to H and Puffy for solace and companionship, but they can't understand everything she went through; nothing erases the aching loneliness inside of her.
6. 1:47 In the end, Niki sits on the L'Mantree stump, reflecting on everything that led up to that point, utterly alone, with nothing but her memories.
Ah this song is perfect for her! I thought the ending scene was her at the nuke test site bc it’s like she’s sitting in a place that she would have killed tommy in, but now she’s reflecting on her life. But I think they meant it to be lmanberg

This is incredible, I love all the little details from Niki's arc like her finding out about Ghostbur during the last battle for l'manburg and her with Hbomb in the savana village, and her being excluded from the l'manburg discussions, and literally every other moment. Everything about this is gorgeous

I hadn't watched this in a while and it made me cry a bit. I miss this era so much. School was hell, but I was so passionate about the dsmp, and the outpouring of art from the community fueled me. School's over now but so is this - my hyperfixation that I loved so much, and the fanbase overflowing with constant activity. Now I feel empty. I'd never have guessed at the time that I'd someday be yearning for those days, with the stress and misery I was experiencing. But to fight the misery of my real life, I at least had something I was passionate about, something that made me feel excited. Now, though my real life is a bit less stressful and a lot less sad, I just feel numb. I don't know if you'll see this, pomodoko, but thank you for making this. I mean, the artistic technique and execution are brilliant, that's why it was one of my favorite pieces of fanart in the first place, but it also means something special to me now.
This animatic introduced me to this song, and to this day I still think this song has some of, if not the best lyrics of any song I have ever heared. This animation is why I do not regret being in the DreamSMP fandom, despite everything that has happened since. Just beautiful how you captured Niki's emotions. I love how you characterized Niki beyond the stereotypical roles of "motherly" and "girlboss", as that is not very common within this community. The colours you used were stunning.

Ive long since fallen out of love for mcyt, but it once was a great comfort for me during a rough time in my life. I had just moved out of my parents house and in to an apartment with my boyfriend i had a failing relationship with and a (then) very volatile roommate. Both of them worked days and I worked nights. I spent most of my week alone on my computer, painfully alone. Watching DMP and all these wonderful stories brought me so much comfort. When I first saw this animatic, i didnt just love it as an amazing testament to Nihachu's character, but it was something i felt so personally. I was often promised better out of people who never delivered, and i myself felt so out of control. The song alone, and believe me its not usually my kind of music, touched something so deep inside my soul that i buried and acted like it wasnt there. Again, ive since fallen out of love, or rather the love fell out of the content. Especially since Alex, Technoblade, passed away, it felt like the last genuine peice of realness died with him. This is one of the few animatics i return to, to remember what it once was. Amazingly done, and thank you.
Niki went through so much. Everyone talks about how Tommy and Tubbo were kids, but so was Niki. She trusted Wilbur and everything he did, she believed that he wanted the best. She didn’t know he was dead for weeks, but when she saw him as Ghostbur, all she could feel was so much regret and pain. He took her by the hand and showed her how to live, then burned that life to the ground in front of her. But she still trusted him, still cared for him.
God nikis character makes me so fucking sad and this animation really just makes me so emotional, great job :,)

This is just so beautiful! With the emotions, the song, and the color scheme of the drawings are just so fucking beautifully put together. I also just love how Nikki's skin brightens when thinking of happier times and being happy but gets muted when she's feeling bad. I just love that detail on there :]

I like how this shows how she still misses Wilbur’s friendship and now sees him in ghostbur but knows it isn’t really him. Like she wants to go back to the real Wilbur not something that she believes took him away. Also I like how it shows she tries to find that same friendship in puffy but isn’t as satisfied, shows ho much she respected him and how she got hurt when he died.

I usually don't comment on videos but I have to get out how much I love this animatic with all my heart. I keep coming back to it, this has to be the 40th time I've watched it, and yet every single time it still makes me shed a tear. The art is absolutely gorgeos, the contrast between an older and weary Niki with L'manburg Niki is genuinly shocking and heart-jerking. I love Niki's eye movement and slow realisation at Wilbur's offer. I also love her reaction to Ghostbur, and her accepting the Syndicate offer. Her expressions were so well drawn. Then how she seems to brighten up when she goes out in public and sees her friends. The final drawing is perfect, it seems to wrap up Niki's character at the time perfectly, sitting in front of the calamity of her actions, merely reflecting and distant. Also the song choice is perfect, it was almost like Mitski wrote it for this animatic. Absolutely beatiful work

Niki's character is one if my favorites and i'm so thrilled she's getting the recognition she deserves, i'm so sad qhe gets left out most of the time, you know, somehow, seeing one of the only woman being ignored for most of the story is pretty hard to watch.... I don't know if it's just me, but it feels like back in elementary school boys wouldn't play with girls... Yeah, kind of annoying some times
Yeah I wish there were more women in the SMP or at least more women in the main story line. Niki joined the syndicate though and Captain Puffy is going against the egg so maybe things will change!

Seeing niki’s story played out like this is heart-wrenching, especially as someone who never really understood her character arc in the first place(i didn’t watch that many of her streams). The things she went through and felt, watching from another’s perspective, were unclear to me, but the way the story is told makes me almost cry.

This is the perfect animation. It’s so rare to find a Niki animation, and this one is just amazing. It radiates this hopeless energy. She’s lost everything and has no where to go, you can really feel that. I can’t get over the slight lean forward she does when she sees Wilbur. Just the smallest urge to reach out. You did an incredible job portraying that.
