I wish I could even be 1/8 as talented as this mans. His drumming is some of the best I’ve heard in modern music for a while now. You can tell how every detail is intentional and is there for a reason. I love how much he utilizes the symbols in Sleep Token’s music. I think within a genre like this it can be somewhat of an overlooked thing to focus on as a lot of artists nowadays in rock and metal tend to focus more on snare and kick drums. As well as double kick/the speed and consistency that they are able to perform (for example blast beats and overuse of fast snare to make a statement in metal and deathcore) II doesn’t focus on any of that whatsoever. He utilizes his entire kit without focusing on speed and how many notes he can hit at once or in a short span of time. It’s carefully thought out and meticulous in his style. Every ghost note, crash or graze upon the symbols, etc. And those fills 👌🏻 dude is so self aware of himself and his art. We need more drummers like this. We still appreciate drummers that use simpler patterns, good fills and kick drum work when it fits the song. But imo this is more attention grabbing and interesting than how fast and hard someone can continue with a blast beat and pounding on a snare. Now I don’t know much about drums at all. But everytime I go into Sweetwater and attempt a kit or pads I’ve been asked if I’m a metal/deathcore/metalcore drummer. I’ve played fast running sports all my life (track, cross country, soccer, softball and often used as a pinch runner, hockey) and continue to exercise and play sports and have gained a lot of leg muscle mass and speed, as well as right arm strength from baseball, volleyball, tennis and hockey so when I’ve gone in just to mess around on drums I’ve used double kick just focusing on sprinting basically and hitting the snare fast and my left arm hitting the crash in a pattern. Now I’ve only been able to do a small simple fill doing that and have also taught myself to do a simple/standard alternative and rock beat cause idk anything else lol. But even if I had lessons there is no way I would ever come CLOSE to this guys talent. And when I tell people at Sweetwater that I’m not and idk what drums even are they are always shook. And I’ve never known why because doing that is so easy to me I just figure anyone else can do it, it’s not anything special. I guess maybe it’s just all in fitness or something? But even just knowing that and watching other drummers who do that stuff, this is just mind blowing. I mean it is drumming at its finest. (Also I hope people know I didn’t tell this story to make myself look good or have the opinion that that sort of drumming is easy. I was just stating how my lack of knowledge and experience even based on comments I have received from people in doing something so simple to me could never compare to II and it has shown me how technical and methodical drums have so much more depth to a simple fast style of drumming that gives a song more intensity) anyways I’m gonna shut up now and just say bottom line is the simple fact that II is just out of this world lol
Thanks for sharing!! No but seriously I know some drummers who are just astounding by this man. But kudos to you! And trust me I couldn’t do a simple beat on the drums to save my life. But I can play guitar, piano and sing… so crazy how everyone is good at something others are not.
How this man is so fluid and relaxed behind that kit and yet a beast when he plays is fascinating to watch!! I love the instrumental albums. You really do "hear" more, ii just shines outright. I can't wait for ST to tour the UK..roll on November, seems ages away and yessss Raye is amazing!!!
Yay so glad you love Raye! Also, I completely get the waiting for a show that You’re really looking forward to. I’m so glad I only have a month to go for sleep token.
@@ashlenamusic I'm so excited!! will you be vlogging the show? His live solo during The Summoning is on another level. You'll have an amazing time, they are epic live 🫶🏻💯🔥
Wait to see The Summoning drum solo when you hear them live, I always listen to the drums first not only because I'm a drummer, but also because is well known that this band stands out in vocals and drums
I feel like with a saturation of good string players the only bands that truly stick out these days are ones with insanely skilled drummers and/or vocalists.
IIs style is exclusive to him and is so incredible in music. As a drummer, I prefer his style -- because so very very few play like this;) And while we are going to the same concert on two different days in Toronto, the set list has been released. It is awesome! They will be playing Euclid! Not kidding! T minus 27 days...
Cliiiiiiicccckkkked!!!! I have watched this so many times. Probably at least 30. No kidding. He's phenomenal. I love him. He's Swaggy and low key knows it. It's not just the tight, clean af drumming. He has his own style. Someone so young, having this much talent and awareness of gift. Dude for sure is an old soul. Just living his FN dreams rn. Side bar, I love how you can feel and hear more in these drum cam sessions. Because you essentially are listening to the same song just so isolated. Makes it feel new to the fan. 🖤✨🤘
So true! Makes it feel like a new song without the words. Also how old is he?? I never looked into their real identities and nor do I want to. But I am curious how old they all are.
I'm definitely speculating. His age anyway. I'm with you I don't care who they are. I also agree with what you said regarding more drum sets with other songs or an album just with those.
so far i believe they have sundowning and this place will become your tomb as instrumental albums as well, ive been desperately waiting for them to hopefully release a take me back to eden full instrumental album so i can get lost in it in a whole different way
I was interested in your comment on how you relate to instruments, because it frames how I feel about II’s approach to drumming. II plays the drum kit more *melodically* than about any other drummer. The diversity in the voicings and patterns, the attention to how the drum part fits with/against the melodic instruments, the extended intricate fills across softer verse parts of the song… II can play melodically within a groove, and it is a unique and delightful sound.
YOU HAVE YET TO DO DRUMEO! The most recent DRUMEO offering Sleep Token II that’s an hour long with play through and interview with II is an absolute MUST Also I checked your videos and The Summoning you said you did is not on there, did it get blocked? Cuz I wanna see that!! Still super jealous your seeing them live but that will be an experience!!
Also I meant to mention in my long ass comment that they do have instrumental versions of Sundowning and TPWBYT!! At least on Spotify idk what streaming platform you have but you should definitely check those out! So far as I know there isn’t one for TMBTE. At least yet.
@@ashlenamusic hell yeah! Will need an update on your thoughts after you’re able to pick out the hidden details/things you were not able to hear with the studio vocals as you will be able to dissect the instrumentals! 😏 I love discussions about the breakdown of a song/album when it comes to removing the vocals. Happy listening!! 😊
Okay last time I’m gonna annoy you with a comment but the vinyl of the day… I’m gonna bring to your attention again reacting to PVRIS sometime! And a good start would be Thank You by PVRIS feat. RAYE 😉

My man is hitting that snare with some power
I’ve said it on 1000 videos. It’s literally unfair how good ii is. Hands down one of the best drummers I’ve ever heard.
