Board members and CEOs of those companies PAST & PRESENT need to go to prison.
And not a comfortable white collar prison either... A max security orange jumpsuit facility.

But for the record, the piece _did_ point out that there may be solutions, but we need to demand action from the government and corporations *_now_* to get them implemented on the scale needed or find better solutions. Water, from its formula weight -18- one would predict it would be a gas at ordinary temperatures & pressures. Ammonia - with a formula weight of 17- is a gas at temperatures as low as minus 33'C. at atmospheric pressure. Hydrogen sulfide,, closely related to water by position in the periodic table & with a formula weight of 34, is a gas at temperatures down to minus 59°C. The fact that water exists as a liquid at all, at ordinary temperatures is something to make one stop and think. Water defys the laws of cold rationality.
But leave it to greedy human idiots to add chemicals destroying our Life source is just mind boggling 😡 No living thing can survive without water, I cannot understand this. All those poor people who have dedicated their lives to farming, their payment is some form of cancer, diseased animals and farmland. This is an absolute outrage, how dare they 💔

Water is a very interesting compound, and indeed it should make one stop and think, but it doesn't "defy the laws of cold rationality"! It differs from hydrogen sulfide in that, for example, the latter doesn't have hydrogen bonds (except at very low temperatures). It's bonding is also very different from NH3. When writing about rationality, it is best to approach your subject rationally.

The farmer's final statement illustrates how profound our misunderstanding of how environmental problems have to be handled. Farmers are in their essence alone and they view all problems as mine alone to solve. They don't expect help nor do they ask for it (except for ag subsidies but just mentioning that will get you in a fight). But the mentality of the farmer is if you have a problem it's your responsibility to solve it. That outlook makes them tough and resilient but it also prevents them from understanding how problems are collectively solved. It's a different skill set and this farmer, who by no fault of his own, still blames himself for his farm being contaminated by pfas. He knows it's not his fault but he still feels that it is. He just doesn't get that his personal choices had very little to do with this outcome. Or that there isn't a personal choice that could've prevented this outcome. That fact would shock him if he really internalized the ramifications of it. Environmental problems are a class of problems that can only be solved through collective solutions and that runs counter to deeply held American beliefs in the last 50 years probably longer. We just saw how the lack of using collective action played out with COVID because public health problems fall into this collective solutions class of problems. It didn't go well because we've lost this muscle of using collective action to solve these problems.

Therefore, some problems can be solved by personal choice alone. Market based solutions CAN work in lots of situations, and there's nothing wrong with that. But there does exist some problems that resist solutions using personal choices alone. I'm not sure why the fact that some problems are solved by personal choices, and some problems that are solved by collective action should be that controversial. They really are 2 ways to solve problems and we should use both to solve problems at best align with each methodology.

This really is such a difficult time in history, I know I’m not alone in feeling so alone.

"Silent Spring" was full of exaggerations and outright errors. The banning of DDT has killed hundreds of millions, mostly children, in the third world. How? Malaria.

@@donaldcarey114 "Silent Spring" - does NOT mention DDT at all - it refers to Agent Orange ( Round-up) being sprayed on Rail-road tracks - leeching into ground water - killing 10,000 people & 5,000 cattle in a 100 mile radius of where the weed killer was applied.

It’s not America- it’s happening in all locations where these factories exist. I saw another documentary where many Dutch workers are sick with cancer over the same chemical types, even through DuPont told them the environment was safe. …. And even crazier, they are seeing health affects in the Faroe Islands (Atlantic) because the gulf steam carries those Chemicals and food supply has become contaminated, as they mainly eat fish for their main source of food. You would think fish are supposed to be healthy and clean in remote island villages !? But the Gulf Stream carried those chemicals snd it seems to be the children that are having the most ill effects.

For cooking, ceramic is the new non-stick. They say it's safe but who knows what they'll find out 20 yrs from now. I've switched to using cast iron and stainless steel ~10 yrs ago. PFAS is in many things we use daily so at this point, most of us have PFAS as well as micro plastic in our bloodstream. I'll be non-stick and Saran wrapped when I die... yippie!!!

@@dezafinado - Pyrex, glass, or ceramic is the best. Some people get heavy metals poisoning, though I think it could be due in part to mercury in their teeth. Sorry, but stainless steel comes off on your food! If you leave it long enough you can actually see the gray on your food.

Perfluorate PFA is the product of hazardous waste burners of companies that manufacture halogenated vinyl like fluorinated pyridine VX and Teflon products.
The only solution is not to

People need to stop saying: "This is America, we SHOULDN'T have X or Y problem." American exceptionalism has directly created the socio-polotical mechanisms that allow us to IGNORE issues like this and MANY others. Especially if X or Y issue only affects the poor or the brown or black. America IS NOT EXEMPT from the outcomes of gross industrial irresponsibility. Except for it's main parent nation, the UK, it basically invented taking a dump on the earth and her people in exchange for a quick buck.
