Not a thriller but I’m currently reading The Ritual by Adam Nevill and I’m blown away by how good it is! (Thanks for the recommendation Anda!). I usually never get scared when reading but THIS BOOK, oh my goodness I was scared to read it last night

Not a thriller, but I highly recommend Exquisite Corpse by Poppy Z. Brite. It's disgusting, terrifying, unique, and moving and it's one of the best books I've ever read.

I am a Mary Kubica Number One Fan. All her books I consume like cheese popcorn. It's beanie season. Thank you.

The Last Time I Lied is my favorite Sager! Have you read Survive the Night or House Across the Lake yet?? I think those two are the big reason The Last One Left is doing so well, it feels like a comeback because those other two...they aren't the worst things I've ever read, but they were definitely disappointing. It feels like he's back.

I'm with you on A Flicker in the Dark; it was pretty obvious and the protagonist was dense as a poundcake

If you want a REALLY GREAT thriller, you definitely need to read "Stillhouse Lake" by Rachel Caine!!! That book had me on the edge of my seat!!! SO SO AWESOME!!!

Yes!! I was gonna say The Only One Left - I guessed most of it but even when I didn't I wasn't like "oh my gosh, no way!" I was just "oh, ok so that's happened"
My favourite thriller writer is Erin Kelly - start with Watch Her Fall or The Burning Air! Also Sophie Hannah, I don't think I could choose a favourite

I read thrillers when I need a no brainer book. I hate that every character in a thriller are the stupidest people ever. They make me mad.

Have you ever read the short story The Grownup by Gillian Flynn? It's one of my favorite thriller\horror books! I used to have a tiny book of it, its like 70 pages long, I wish i knew what happened to it.

It ended up in a used book store in San Diego where I picked it up for just $1. Provided me a quick, satisfying dose of Flynn while WAITING PATIENTLY for her next novel. Great little book! Thanks for losing it!

A flicker in the dark was so awful. I was rooting for the main girl to either be revealed to be the killer or be murdered by the end because she was just so annoying (really how much better would the book have been if it was her).
On the other hand I LOVED the Only One Left. It’s my favorite Riley Sager so far. Something about the spooky atmospheric gothic horror elements just made the overall read experience enjoyable. I think I generally enjoy those settings more than for example a “summer camp slasher” but I still thought this was better than Home Before Dark which is technically also a haunted house story.

The couple next door was a dnf for me. The couple was not likeable to me at all. And if i can't connect to the characters, i can't get into the story

So happy that I read Girl On The Train when it was first released. It gets so much hate now, but it was the perfect poolside companion when I read it. Truth be told , I haven’t loved any of her other books as much. 🫣

Hey Ana, since you where looking for Thriller recommandations: Have you checked out Cody McFadian? I've Not read any of his books yet, but they are known to be really gory. Another Authour who gets recommended to me a lot is Simon Beckett and last but not least my favorit Thriller author is Sebastian Fitzek. I don't know If his books are published in your country but I highly recommend Therapy and the child.

Underrated thriller - The Death of Mrs. Westaway - by Ruth Ware. Overrated thriller - The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware. Appropriately Rated - The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton

Underrated-The Island by Adrian McKinty...I thought this was the perfect thriller. Think Deliverance but centered on a family vacation in Australia. One of my favorites I've read this year.
Overrated-RILEY SAGER!! He keeps dragging me in with an absolutely killer premise and setup, then I'm pissed through the end of the book. He puts plot twists in for the sake of twists...oh, did I see that twist coming? No, because it was stupid!

I'm not a huge thriller fan for exactly the reasons you mentioned - they just annoy me most of the time. But, I read Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter not long ago and it really blew me away. I was super impressed, so I would definitely recommend that one.

The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones. Overrated. Supposedly about four friends being haunted/stalked, but it's really only one of them. The only good portion of the book (for me) was the second friend's mounting paranoia regarding his wife and female coworker, but once that part ends at the novel's halfway mark, it was all downhill from there. The other three friends are barely aware that anything weird is going on, then meet quick, grisly ends without ever knowing what hit them, not unlike throwaway secondary characters in a bodycount slasher film. There's an event in the story that's built up to be something of consequence and mystical, then fizzles out to absolutely nothing, therefore so does the whole novel. The author's prose was inconsistent, ranging from common to incomprehensible. Don't know why it was hailed at all. No plans to ever read this author again.

Have you read Razorblade Tears and All the Sinners Bleed by S.A. Cosby? I think you would love both. Also, I get all my thriller reads from my library because I too am usually disappointed. Great rankings. I concur!

OMG I sooooo agree with Alex North's books. I read both The Whisper Man and Three Shadows (they overlap) and I absolutely love them both, he is a new favorite thriller author for me for sure, and I don't have many of those hahaha.
Gone Girl is also one of my all time favorite books so I agree on that too

@@AndaKent No I haven't been able to get my hands on it yet, but I do have doubts because of the reviews. I feel like his 2 other books were so praised and this one might be a little under, but I'm considering reading it still. Also apparently, Alex North is a pen name for Steve Mosby? But I haven't read the books he wrote under that name.

OMG I thought I was the only one that didn't like The Only One Left. I felt like I was taking crazy pills with all the high praise it got. The writing felt like cheesy romance style ("...or should I say WIVES, because there were many!"). I truly think there was some marketing thing going on with youtubers and goodreads reviews who were hyping this book up. It was way too long, way too many twists, and the writing was so lame.

Ania Ahlborn is hit and miss. I read Brother and thought it was a masterpiece. Next I read The Shuddering and couldn't believe it was the same author. Such an abysmally horrible book. I read Within These Walls which is basically Charles Manson fan fic, but Ania took the cult thing to a supernatural place.

Your problem is you’re not reading the right authors. I didn’t see any of these names pop up: Dennis LeHane, Jack Carr, Gillian Flynn, Don Winslow, CJ Box, John le Carre, Harlan Coben, William Kent Krueger, SA Crosby, John Grisham, or Michael Connelly.
Then again they’re probably not going to be on an overrated list because very rarely have any of the aforementioned authors written a book that can be considered overrated.
