They did great with the animation of emotions in this game. When Arthur sees the doctor, there's a fleeting face he makes that was animated perfectly. You can see the shock, fear etc. I say it that way as I'm not sure if you actually finished the game and know what happens.

Most criminals that are condemned to die usually get weeks, months, or even years to prepare for the end. O'Driscoll, so assured in the plan to break him out, all of a sudden only had 40 seconds. Explains the look of panic on his face perfectly.
The mission fails if you shoot him, but if the game let you, would anyone even want to do it? He'd die too quick to realize that he isn't going to walk out this time. The fact that he went in all cocky and then had time to despair makes it so much sweeter.

Lol. Yeah. It was so well done. The terrified expression, the eyes widening, the hyperventilating, the desperate looking around in vein to see if there's any hope. Almost made me feel sorry for the guy despite the fact that he's an antagonist.
The facial animation and the acting for Colm in the hanging scene are some of the most phenomenal acts I’ve ever seen in a video game. You can *feel* how hopeless Colm feels as he sees that his plan is foiled, and that he is truly about to die. You can *feel* the emotions that swirl through his head as the seconds toward his demise tick fewer. Colm’s heavy, panicked breathing as the thought sets in that he is about to be executed, is honestly the best acting I’ve ever seen in a video game.

Because that might be the person sadie is now but thats not the person that dutch ever was, dutch used to be really smart and tactical w hosea and their gang was actually really good but ever since it all started falling apart around him he went crazy, Arthur was a real one he tried to stick to the old days
I feel video games are a much better way to portray longer stories in greater detail. Movies today usually don't run past the 2.5 hour mark, barely enough time to even cover the first chapter of this game.
I remember thinking the same thing. He goes from cocky and self-assured to pants-shittingly terrified in about thirty seconds, without a word of dialogue. Just looks and heavy breathing and his facial expressions. THAT'S storytelling, and THAT'S animation. Bravo, guys!
They just had good actors wearing mocap suits and they have sensors that detect their facial muscles too. It’s more so the actors good acting skill, rather than the rockstar dev team.

I love this scene how he walks on stage so cocky and looks around and finally sees Arthur. The sheer panic and realisation on his face is perfect as he realises he is going to hang with the heavy breathing to top it all off. Mwah.
I love how Colm begins his “trial” (as he calls it) with a smile, assuming everything is going to be flawless. When he suddenly notices his men who are supposed to help him are at gunpoint. His heart drops slightly, only until he looks up at the roof to see a surviving Arthur Morgan waving him goodbye. Colm is panicking, thinking of any last resort means of escaping. Until he hears “Colm O’driscoll” Then his heart skips a beat, as he knows his death is Imminent. All he can do his take sharp, deep breaths, whimpering and crying. That is what fear does to those who’s plans fails.
What I don't like About the snipersections of the game: you are always Looking through the scope. Often times I didn't know where the enemies were because the camera was to close.
You can totally see the realization that he's not getting out of it this time as he faces his mortality before he's killed. Such an amazing yet simple way to kill off a major antagonist.
And then the scene us ruined because Sadie had to trigger a shootout Really forced moment. Can the game not go 5 seconds without a big unrealistic cartoonish shoot out?

I love the significance of having the O'Driscoll sniper take Arthur by surprise and jump him. Earlier in the story when the same thing happened he was overpowered, but now he's ready.
7:46 That moment was so rewarding. Seeing the arrogance wiped from his face, as he suddenly realizes that he's screwed. That this time, there's no escape, and his miserable life IS GOING to end. 5 chapters of buildup, finally pay dividends.

It's kind of heartwarming that Dutch mentions Kieran when talking about what O'Driscoll has taken from them. You know, Dutch being selfish, specially during the last chapters of the game, and Kieran being a very secondary character through the game, you'd kinda expect his death to be easily forgotten, yet Dutch shows respect, a bit of sadness and wishes to avenge him. You could argue that Dutch never cared for him and only said that to look better in Arthur's and Sadie's eyes, but still, it was a nice comment coming from him
Kieran was another casuality to the consequences to Dutch's actions. He was always the most disposable one and was treated as such. Then, Dutch uses his death to continue making more bad decisions. Remember that this is the same guy who abandoned both Arthur and Marston for death when Dutch had the option to choose to be a survivor and choose he did.
Facial animations are so great. You can truly see that he realizes that there’s no way he’s getting out of it and the fear in his eyes made the scene even more satisfying
Same. Rockstar hits it out of the park with Colm's expression. That just shows us that he is truly afraid and regrets going against Dutch's gang in the first place. I can imagine his hellish life flashing in his eyes when the floors gone, Colm plummeting, strangled to death

What I like about Sadie is that her progression was so natural because they didn’t force her on us from the get go on missions she slowly starts integrating herself in the activities of the gang, she serve her purpose really well that you believe her goal and motivations and it felt real and now that I realize she’s not in most of the game meaning she had to earn her keep to participate like it has to be

She like a female version of Micah. She started several gunfights in the game that could have got someone killed. I like her character but the could have made her a little more intelligent and not so hot headed.

Just realized that the Hangman had a similar quote to Milton. 6:34 - "Sometimes a man is so savage, the only way to deal with him is savagely." Compared to Milton's line : "You are all savages. You will die, savagely." A great parallel between Dutch's Gang and the O'Driscolls. They both hate each other, but are almost all the same.
Yep. Red Dead is more like a matured version of GTA, the older brother so to speak. Society needs rules. It sucks to be enslaved by the rich and etc... but what are the other options really? So, Milton always had a point. These outlaws were all degenerates, including Arthur. That's why he tries to redeem himself at the end, hardly accepting his change of heart. Tony Lawliet it really is a beautiful moment and fantastically executed. It was in that moment that Colm knew that he was going to die and that there was no getting out of it and that can really scare people and it is depicted amazingly
It was this moment I truly felt the feud with the O'Driscolls was meaningless. Colm's death was a pathetic end for such an enemy for many years, just showing none of it was worth it in the end. Dutch's enemy was finished. Sadie got her revenge. Arthur was just caught in the middle of it and used as bait for Dutch, who didn't even come to rescue him.
I kind of agree, really. Colm was kind of built as the the primary antagonist early on, but once you get to mid-game he’s kind of an afterthought. Wish the O’Driscoll feud was fleshed out a bit more.
I wish they had done more with this minor antagonist. The O'Driscolls were such an annoyance, always popping up everywhere but their leader got very little screen time
Sadie screaming "you ruined my life" gives me goosebumps every time. And then again when she finishes off the O Driscols at the farm and has to face the monster she has become. One of the best written characters Rockstar has ever created. Sadie needs a game for herself.

The acting in this game is incredible. Once Colm knew he wasn’t getting free you can really feel the emotion on his face almost like you were the one about to be hanged. Well done to the actor and Rockstar👏🏻👏🏻
If you accept the optional mission “Mrs. Sadie, Widow”, and eliminate the last of the O’Driscolls (including their second in-command, Tom, who killed Jake Alder), then loot Tom after the mission, you’ll find a letter from Colm to Tom saying that he regrets all that he has done in life, and that he wishes to disband the O’Driscoll after he breaks free from the gallows again. Small details to show his redemptions way too late. Also, I doubt Colm did Kieran’s beheading. It seemed more like Tom’s work than Colm’s.
If that's the case, then maybe Kieran's death is what made Colm want to stop in the first place. Seeing Tom torture and brutally murder the poor kid that just wanted to survive - at least Kieran's death wouldn've been in vain.
The despair in his face and the realisation that it is his last moment, so sudden and he literally didn't come to the terms of it but he can't do anything there, those emotions are amazingly created! Especially the way the camera stopped for long time on his face! One of the most favourite moments of the game for me, how perfectly they created that and even felt sorry for him, but then I remeber what they did to Karen! it was too real.
The panic on colms face is amazing. You can really feel how scared and pathetic he is in that moment. It’s quite amazing. And it tells you so much about how much of a insecure coward Colm is without saying any words. Gives so much depth and evilness to a character you barely got to see throughout the game.
The animation on Colm's face is absolutely incredible for a game.... Seeing the intense rush of emotions from being extremely arrogant and confident when he was sure he'd be saved, to shock and confusion when he saw Dutch and his gang disable his only escape from death, then complete panic when he is finally listening to the words of the executioner when he realizes this is truly the end and he is going to die.
It’s interesting if you loot Tom the fat odriscoll with the beard Sadie kills at hanging dog ranch there’s a letter sent to him by Colm, Colm writes about how he has regrets in his life, how he should’ve been different etc. I think he was mainly acting cocky for the sake of his men that were trying to break him out. But once he realized that this time they wouldn’t be able to save him that brief hope he had vanished, he wouldn’t get a second or third or fifth chance this time, he wouldn’t get a chance to become better than what he was. And I think that’s what the fear in his eyes was about.

The facial animation and the acting for Colm in the hanging scene are some of the most phenomenal acts I’ve ever seen in a video game. You can *feel* how hopeless Colm feels as he sees that his plan is foiled, and that he is truly about to die. You can *feel* the emotions that swirl through his head as the seconds toward his demise tick fewer. Colm’s heavy, panicked breathing as the thought sets in that he is about to be executed, is honestly the best acting I’ve ever seen in a video game.

I feel video games are a much better way to portray longer stories in greater detail. Movies today usually don't run past the 2.5 hour mark, barely enough time to even cover the first chapter of this game.

Colm is panicking, thinking of any last resort means of escaping. Until he hears

Then his heart skips a beat, as he knows his death is Imminent. All he can do his take sharp, deep breaths, whimpering and crying.

It's kind of heartwarming that Dutch mentions Kieran when talking about what O'Driscoll has taken from them. You know, Dutch being selfish, specially during the last chapters of the game, and Kieran being a very secondary character through the game, you'd kinda expect his death to be easily forgotten, yet Dutch shows respect, a bit of sadness and wishes to avenge him. You could argue that Dutch never cared for him and only said that to look better in Arthur's and Sadie's eyes, but still, it was a nice comment coming from him
Kieran was another casuality to the consequences to Dutch's actions. He was always the most disposable one and was treated as such. Then, Dutch uses his death to continue making more bad decisions. Remember that this is the same guy who abandoned both Arthur and Marston for death when Dutch had the option to choose to be a survivor and choose he did.
The fact you think this is cool from Dutch to mention Kieran just prove who good in manipulate he is lol

What I like about Sadie is that her progression was so natural because they didn’t force her on us from the get go on missions she slowly starts integrating herself in the activities of the gang, she serve her purpose really well that you believe her goal and motivations and it felt real and now that I realize she’s not in most of the game meaning she had to earn her keep to participate like it has to be
I liked how the gang treated her like anyone else. She had to work, had to earn her keep and in doing so she slowly blended in.

She like a female version of Micah. She started several gunfights in the game that could have got someone killed. I like her character but the could have made her a little more intelligent and not so hot headed.

If you accept the optional mission “Mrs. Sadie, Widow”, and eliminate the last of the O’Driscolls (including their second in-command, Tom, who killed Jake Alder), then loot Tom after the mission, you’ll find a letter from Colm to Tom saying that he regrets all that he has done in life, and that he wishes to disband the O’Driscoll after he breaks free from the gallows again. Small details to show his redemptions way too late.
Also, I doubt Colm did Kieran’s beheading. It seemed more like Tom’s work than Colm’s.
If that's the case, then maybe Kieran's death is what made Colm want to stop in the first place. Seeing Tom torture and brutally murder the poor kid that just wanted to survive - at least Kieran's death wouldn've been in vain.

The despair in his face and the realisation that it is his last moment, so sudden and he literally didn't come to the terms of it but he can't do anything there, those emotions are amazingly created! Especially the way the camera stopped for long time on his face!
One of the most favourite moments of the game for me, how perfectly they created that and even felt sorry for him, but then I remeber what they did to Karen! it was too real.

The panic on colms face is amazing. You can really feel how scared and pathetic he is in that moment. It’s quite amazing. And it tells you so much about how much of a insecure coward Colm is without saying any words. Gives so much depth and evilness to a character you barely got to see throughout the game.

The animation on Colm's face is absolutely incredible for a game.... Seeing the intense rush of emotions from being extremely arrogant and confident when he was sure he'd be saved, to shock and confusion when he saw Dutch and his gang disable his only escape from death, then complete panic when he is finally listening to the words of the executioner when he realizes this is truly the end and he is going to die.

It’s interesting if you loot Tom the fat odriscoll with the beard Sadie kills at hanging dog ranch there’s a letter sent to him by Colm, Colm writes about how he has regrets in his life, how he should’ve been different etc. I think he was mainly acting cocky for the sake of his men that were trying to break him out. But once he realized that this time they wouldn’t be able to save him that brief hope he had vanished, he wouldn’t get a second or third or fifth chance this time, he wouldn’t get a chance to become better than what he was. And I think that’s what the fear in his eyes was about.

I love Sadie Adler yet she isn’t a good “Western” female character at all bud, accept it.
