    A few people have reminded me of a great tip which is the "press, press clip". You position the clippers and lightly press, not enough to make a cut. You do this before making the cut so the bunny has a chance to react if you're too close to the quick! I used to do it all the time and never made a mistake but I got too confident/rushing for this video and unfortunately Bunmi paid the price. Fortunately there was only minimal blood and she enjoyed her pellets right after. I'll need to earn back her trust in future nail clippings x

      My bunnies flinch every time I cut, whether I'm near the quick or not. It looks like yours do too! It actually makes me feel better. I am always terrified I'm hurting them!

    Something that helped me was having bundles of dried lavender by the bunnies. It gave them something beautiful and calming to smell while I clipped their nails. To see the quick, I had a head lamp designed for backpackers. Lastly, I had their favorite snack which is fresh sunflower seeds. I did three bunnies in about 20 minutes in my first try.

    These are great tips!!
    For me, time of day really matters. If I approach Lola for trimming in the afternoon, when she's sleepy and full, she tends to try not to run or fight at all.

      that's true too! I do the same when I comes to brushing 🤣

    Thank for the great tips and for showing your entire process in real time. That is so helpful. I struggle with this and seeing how you place your body around bun bun is super helpful. Also, the circular nails with the light is a game changer! Going to buy one of them now. Karen-Nicole

    Thx! I'm definitely going to try those techniques because I'm tired of paying $95 in Canada for my two bunnies to get their pedicures at the vets. Where I live there is no one that cuts bunnies nails so this helps me and I'm going to try it!

    I just found your channel, and slowly have binged watched so many of your vids. I too have questions about my bun care and your vids have helped clear alot of it up (like the greens and pellets diet), and this vid, I've never thought to use mesh to part the fur & nails! You're very chill and easy to listen to, unlike some other hyper channels out there (no hate to them, just my preference). Thanks a bunch, since I've learnt much more too. Subbed~♥

    thanks for showing your imperfections. i cut too deep once because my bunny was kicking and squirming a lot, it made me feel so bad... ever since ive been paying $50+ a month for professional grooming but i will eventually have to learn how to cut her nails myself :( unfortunately my partner is squeamish about holding rabbits so i have to figure out a way to do it myself x.x

    • @BunsBestLife
      @BunsBestLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It happens to most of us. Have you been able to watch the professional to see how they do it?

    My boyfriend sits each bunny on his knee, bum on his knee and all 4 paws sticking out. He told them very snug and covers their eyes with his free hand. I will either use a stocking, or just my fingers to move the fur out of the way. After each snip they get a nose snuzzle and kiss and told they're the best bunny ever... and we do this 3 times, for all 3 bunnies, once a week because our rabbit's nails grow like talons. They don't mind having their little feeties touched, but they hate having their nails done. If I had to do it on my own, it would never get done.

    I definitely need help with Thurberi cuz he's pretty big and I am pretty small, but luckily he's pretty good at holding still even if it's in the "deer in headlights" way, haha. I haven't had Elowen long enough to have to cut her nails yet but hopefully she's not too spicy. She's the type who thumps after I pick her up and will tell the cat twice her size to get the eff out of her way, so wish me luck. XD

      @BunsBestLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wish I could see your buns. Thurberi sounds like a gentle giant and Elowen sounds like a ball of sass. You can do it!!

      @@BunsBestLife I do have some photos of them floating around on social media, but yes they are both very sweet honey buns! I'm going to cut their nails by the end of this month so I'll do my best!

    I clip and file with a nail file. I like to get as close to the quick as possible, because I heard if get close enough then you can recess the quick to make it go back.

  • @farrierette5216

    The easiest safest way even though bunnies don't like it is to put them on there back. They hold still and you can do it faster.

    Thank you so much for yet another informative and realistic video! I hope your channel will reach more and more (new) bunny owners. Your rabbits seem so well behaved around all your furniture, have they ever really destroyed anything and how much bunny proofing did you actually do?=)

    • @BunsBestLife
      @BunsBestLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Aww you're so kind! Yes they have destroyed many cables, a paper floor lamp and our clothes are covered in chew holes (including the pants in currently wearing 🤣).
      The main bunny proofing we do is cable management and keeping things out of reach

    WHAT I REALLY LIKED ABOUT YOUR VIDEO IS THE LITTLE PIECE OF..
    (((*❤ NETTING ))) WHAT A GREAT IDEA AND YOU COULD SEE CLEARLY HOW IT PULLED BACK THE FUR SO YOU COULD SEE !!! THANK YOU FOR SHARING❤ AND I LIKED THE LIGHT ON YOUR CLIPPERS....BUT DOES THAT GET IN THE WAY OF YOU SEEING I CAN SEE HOW IT HELPFUL TO SEE THE QUICK BUT IS THE VIEW STILL CLEAR ?

    I find the techniques in this video to be immensely helpful th-cam.com/video/W9KemnaTGIs/w-d-xo.html
    In particular doing a fake "clip" to see how my bunny reacts. If they pull away then I'm too close to the quick and move further out before doing the real clip. Haven't caused any bleeding yet!

    • @BunsBestLife
      @BunsBestLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes I love the "press, press, clip!" technique she shows. I used to do that when I first started and maybe it's time I do it again!
