When the name of a cadmium paint color includes the word “hue”, that means that it’s been made to duplicate the color of the original cadmium color, but with an alternative safer pigment in place of the original toxic pigment. From the Daniel Smith website: “These are called Cadmium “Hues” because they are not made with Cadmium metal compounds. Instead they are new, alternative pigments substituting for the Cadmium pigments.” The “hue” naming convention is used by all of the paint manufacturers for these cadmium substitutes.
Sometimes it takes a lot of thinking time on one painting. I've left a painting for months and gone back with fresh eyes to complete it. Other times I can really push through and get an aha! moment where I 'find' my petals or reach the vision of how i want it to be.
I doubt that those cheap paints even have real cadmium pigment in them. Especially when they say hue, it's an indication that it isn't real pigment. Also, the pigments really aren't very toxic unless they are in powder form and you inhale it.
