Really helpful. Thanks for sharing. I always took the train which cost me about $38 return, bit of a pain. I'll follow your instructions when I'm in Sydney again next month :)
This is a nicely presented clip and probably the most lucid description of a very well known hack. However, there are a few caveats. The question is 'To and from Sydney to where?' If you mean into the CBD of Harbour Sydney, it's walking (if you are fit, healthy and the weather is OK, it;'s not that far. In up to my sixties I did it more than once). I ask the question because I've met people who have followed similar advice, only to discover if they had stayed on the bus it actually went closer to where they wanted to eventually get. Others boast of the saving, then stay in some of the most expensive parts of Sydney. Sydney transport is pretty good. Staying in a much cheaper area that have a local train station, that connects with most places is a better way to go on a budget. Most fares are cheap (the added Airport entry fee being the notable exception - BTW 85% of the fee goes to the state government, not the airport operator). It's very doable and enables you to see more of real Sydney, not just the tourist traps. In my backpacking era, books like 'Lonely Planet' were valuable for finding the equivalent cheap accommodation in many countries, and often gave a far better experience of the local culture. These days going online makes it much easier. When I used Sydney Airport more for work related stuff (typically one day trips to Melbourne and back), I used to use the train directly. If you think it's expensive, try parking at the Airport. What I lost on the fee, I gained by parking for free at rail stations out west along the Airport Line.
I missed the new entrance. I used the station regularly for a decade and was in ‘automatic’ mode the last time I passed through. I’ll have to check it out next time.
My flight arrives into Sydney at 930pm. Will I be able to take the bus to mascot from the international terminal and then take the train to town hall station?
By train, you would go from Sydney Airport to Wolli Creek on the T8 and then Wolli Creek to Hurstville on the T4. A cheaper option is bus 420 from Airport to Rockdale station and then train to Hurstville on T4.

Love your investigative reporting of cost saving tips. You should have your own show......Oh wait, you do :)

Informative indeed 👍 thanks.
I'll definitely apply in next October
This was the perfect! Clearly shows how to get from the Airport to the city cheap! The airport train is defiantly overpriced!
Your video is a great resource. Looking forward to my savings when I visit Sydney soon!
Glad it was helpful!
THANK YOU SO MUCHHH❤❤ REALLY HELPS!! God bless you
Did you notice if the new entrance to Mascot Station is completed? It is directly across the street from the current entrance, on Bourke St.
I missed the new entrance. I used the station regularly for a decade and was in ‘automatic’ mode the last time I passed through. I’ll have to check it out next time.
Good for you 😊. Which shop can we buy opal card in Sydney International Airport ? Many thanks
exactly the information i was looking for. thank you so much
Glad it was helpful!
Very helpful! Are the buses and trains strict with the luggages though?
No restrictions on luggage on the public transport.
Thank you! @@ourtrips2go
Thank you mate! Btw can I do the same trick if I arrive at the International airport? Can I move from international to domestic easily and cheap?
There is a free bus service between the two terminals. But if going to Mascot station from international terminal, use the 420 bus.
I need to go to North Sydney near ISKON temple from Airport, could you please help me with Bus Number to board
Thank you so much for this tip.
Excellent - thanks for sharing !!
Looks great. What bus do you catch back to Sydney airport domestic from mascot station?
From Mascot station stop B on Coward Street, the 350 or 420 go to domestic. 420 also goes to international terminal.
Thank you. I appreciate the tip
Hi There. May I know how do we pay from Sydney Airport to take the bus going to Mascot Station so we can avoid this 15 AUD fee?
You can either use a credit card to tap on and tap off on the bus or buy an Opal card at the airport for bus usage
Can you bring many luggages inside the bus?
As long as you can push or carry it, you can take it on the bus and train.
@@ourtrips2go Alright thanks
what is the time wait for the 420 bus at the int airport..n since am from overseas i can use visa card or is it better to purchase opal card?
Normally about 10-15 minute wait. A credit card will work just as easily.
i see i should have a opal card. how much does it cost the card?
There is no cost, but there is a minimum top up value. You can now also use a credit card to tap and pay on Sydney public transport.
Can I purchase the Opal Card before the bus at the airport??
You would have to buy it from the railway station under the airport. The other option is to tap on and off using a credit card.
Thankyou
You’re welcome 😊
My flight arrives into Sydney at 930pm. Will I be able to take the bus to mascot from the international terminal and then take the train to town hall station?
Yes, the 420 bus is available from International Airport to Mascot station at night, with connection to train services to the city.
Hi, is there possible bringing large luggage (28 inch) by bus? And where I can get the bus/train card?
Yes, you can take suitcases on the bus. The Opal cards are available at the news kiosks/convenience stores at Sydney Airport.
Thanks a lot for the information!
So as a one time tourist to Sydney I would have to pay for the card as well and how much would that be ? Thanks
@@laurencehyde2168 I think it is minimum topup $35AUD if you buy from Sydney airport.
The debit or credit cards will be working. You may not need to buy an opal card. Not sure if all card types (master/visa etc) will work.
If I have to catch a flight at 8 am, I will have to leave hotel at 5 am. Is there any timing for the train ?
Depends where your hotel is. Check the Transport For NSW trip planner. Trains come about every 10 to 15 minutes.
65 cents‽ Wow that’s cheap
Hiii there... questions
do u know the direction by train if i wanna go to Hurstville from Sydney Airport? thx u
By train, you would go from Sydney Airport to Wolli Creek on the T8 and then Wolli Creek to Hurstville on the T4. A cheaper option is bus 420 from Airport to Rockdale station and then train to Hurstville on T4.
What? So the train from Mascot only cost you 0.65 AUD 😮
It’s added onto the bus fare as it’s a combined trip using different forms of public transport. So you pay for number of total zones
@@ourtrips2goThanks. Planning on using your tips tomorrow when I arrive in Sydney
