In this installment of our 100 Essential Jazz Standards Series, we take a look at an awesome, but challenging tune, Have You Met Miss Jones. Much of the time, this tune is played at a relatively fast tempo, and our version will not be an exception to that rule. The bridge is very interesting, containing the same chord changes as Giant Steps and will, no doubt, be the most challenging part of our studies. Enjoy the video!

Nick I tried to get the etudes using PayPal but it keeps refusing the payment with the captcha protection. Not sure why!

Hmmm... not sure why that's happening. Did you ever get it figured?

Nice incite. I never noticed the Giant Steps connection. Keep em coming.

I know that the melody on bar 6 plays the flat third (natural F) but when improvising could I play as if the chord was a dominant (D7) ? I find my self playing the F# all the time the VI chord appears but it might clash with rest of the band.

Often the first measure has a IV7 in the second half to give a bluesy feel.

How can I use an etude for improv my solo 🫡🙇‍♂️ ?

Great question! Use it as a source of inspiration for writing your own vocabulary or simply steal the vocabulary in it and use it in your solos! It's also great for developing technique and the sound of quality lines in your ears 👍

@@nickmainella thanks so much . I’ll try to do it 🙇‍♂️.
