Well done everyone involved, proving that good quality teamwork can truly make a difference - plus, nature and the birds are responding! All the best from the UK.
Greetings from Spain. I wish I could help people trying to protect nature. I am also a bird lover and because of humanity a lot of beautiful animals are going exctinct. Mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles and fish. They are all beautiful. But by humanity they go exctinct and never come back to life. You guys are amazing for doing this.
Best wishes to you all, good job! From a Dutch nature loving friend who did similar activities way back then. Keep up the good work and always involve the local youth.
I saw this on my feed for a couple days and didn’t click to watch it. But I’m so glad I did it today and I love it. I just subscribed to your channel Good job people. Blessings from Canada 🇨🇦
I am independent filmmaker, but I was working as a camera man for some Mossy Earth videos. They are awesome. DOPPS in Slovenia - the organization which is creating and managing the islands and whom I've joined for this action are also doing quite good. They are part of the Birdlife and also at least some part of funding (if not all - not sure about that) for the island creation is given from the hydroelectric power plant.
is it in Slovenia or Slovakia? I am not sure if they have something in Slovenia. In Slovakia they have "flooding forest" project, I was there and was filming one episode for them. But if have something in Slovenia that awesome too
Great work! Love to see people caring and putting viable solutions in place. I really like the track at 8:54, do you guys have a song name I can look up?
you mean to make them larger ? From what I understood for now it's sufficient. But if the population of birds will continue to grow (hopefully) then they will need more islands :)
A Win-Win for the hydroelectric company to have use for silt accumulation and for nature🏆More islands and use goats 🐐 to clear and can also plant with native endangered plants 🌱
Had a question - Why is there not a single tree on the island ? I am sure it will provide shade as well as shelter is there a reason for not having one .... By the way love your work
Good question, I don't know, but there is one Island which I haven't visited, and it was full of trees. The cormorants loves it, it supports a large colony of them. But it also very close to the shore, so many birds avoid nesting on it.
I want to make an island for the critters, and I will include myself as one of the critters. I'm not sure about the legality here in the States. Maybe Virginia would be upset if a new island popped up in the Chesapeake Bay 😂.
Yes cats kills a lot of birds each year, But that's not the case in lake Ptuj. Because all birds nesting and breeding sites where on many islands where no cat could get to. The problem was a dam which was build and flooded these natural islands.
So let me get this straight...you guys made an environment that you have to destroy to create a more suitable environment for endangered birds?...and it worked?! Not sure if leaving it the hell alone would have been easier and more effective but im glad it was made.
it's not "we" who destroyed the environment. You are talking about 2 different groups of people. The 1st one who build a dam to produce electricity which was already in 1970's . And 2nd group of people of bird conservationists who decided to do something because 2 bird species became extinct after the dam was build. Leaving it alone of course would be easier, but in this case there would be no breeding and nesting birds in this area and for some species even in the whole Slovenia
it just appeared on my feed out of nowhere and this is awesome
Thats great, thank you
Same here, thanks for helping mother earth!
Same.,Love it! ❤❤❤
Right in front of your face 😳
Seems like you should drop some goats off in the island once a year & pick them up

It’s people like the ones in the video that give me hope for the future.🙏🏼

Thank you! Yes indeed its quite important involve youth and local people.
I'm shocked this channel doesn't have more views, this is an incredibly high quality video!
Thank you :) super happy to hear that
If they knew what the birds actually were, that might help.
I saw this on my feed for a couple days and didn’t click to watch it. But I’m so glad I did it today and I love it. I just subscribed to your channel

Thank you, glad to hear that!
yes and the dam gives you power to make your videos
Have you considered collaborating with Mossy Earth &/or Planet Wild to scale up the operation? Bravo to the amazing effort :) Cheers from Hong Kong!
I was just about to ask since I think Mossy Earth has a project just south of the damn with a forest wetland.

Wow!

Thank you, I use Epidemic Sound platform for the music in all my videos. the track at 8:54 is called : Silent Reverie - Tellsonic
I noticed less and less people started caring about these videos.
😎👍☮
How did some small mammals get there? Were they introduced?
good question, when I asked no one knew :) but they are definitely not introduced there
would it make sense to expand how large the islands are, or make floating islands?
you mean to make them larger ? From what I understood for now it's sufficient. But if the population of birds will continue to grow (hopefully) then they will need more islands :)

yeah for hydroelectric company it's also a way to get rid of sediment. Good idea about native plants

If there is a zombie apocalypse, you can use those islands as a base.
I want to make an island for the critters, and I will include myself as one of the critters. I'm not sure about the legality here in the States. Maybe Virginia would be upset if a new island popped up in the Chesapeake Bay 😂.
are YOU looking for a species conservation volutourism in north-east sLOVEnia?
(for really free)
they builded chinampas for birds !
So… If those islands were to disappear, no more sea gulls? I’m just asking for a friend.. He hates sea gulls…
yes, some of the species would disappear from this area. As it's only breeding and nesting sites for them.
Now then, let’s get to the source of the problem. Feral Cats.
Yes cats kills a lot of birds each year, But that's not the case in lake Ptuj. Because all birds nesting and breeding sites where on many islands where no cat could get to. The problem was a dam which was build and flooded these natural islands.
Sediments are avoided for the heavy metals and pesticides. It isn't special, it is negligent to use.
Yall do know that the Rats would eventually eat the Bird eggs yall would have to capture them and relocated them away from the Islands
that was one of the smallest rats in the world on this island, and they can't eat the eggs. so it's all good
So let me get this straight...you guys made an environment that you have to destroy to create a more suitable environment for endangered birds?...and it worked?! Not sure if leaving it the hell alone would have been easier and more effective but im glad it was made.
