The only reason Charlie Brown lashed out at Schroeder was because he was upset by the fact that Linus, his best friend, has had to move. Given how sensitive Charlie is, it's pretty obvious that he isn't able to handle losing his best friend.
Lucy is also his friend granted not best friend like Linus but still a friend. The reason why Charlie never abandons Lucy( even if she can be mean to him) is because he’s known her and Linus since they were little, they have always been close.
I think Charlie knows more about Lucy than we think. I recall in one of the specials it was said that they all knew each other since they were little. Perhaps Lucy’s bullying isn’t due to being mean spirited maybe she herself was bullied or perhaps her parents were neglectful. I’m not saying Lucy is pure or excusing anything she does all I’m saying is that there might be more to her than meets the eye.
@@DBZAOTA482In one of the specials, it was confirmed that he had known Linus and Lucy since they were little hence why he always stays with Lucy no matter how she treats him. Charlie Brown knows that there's more to her than what everyone thinks.
In this scene from "Is This Goodbye, Charlie Brown?", Charlie Brown calls out Schroeder, asking why he would care about Lucy moving away when he never liked Lucy and was never nice to her. I find this particularly ironic, because in the previous Peanuts special, "A Charlie Brown Celebration," there was a scene in which Charlie Brown was in the hospital and Lucy was in tears, worrying about him, and Schroeder calls her out for it : "It's interesting that you should cry over him when you're the one who's always treated him so mean ... and stop wiping your tears with my piano!"
Perhaps Lucy has? Think about we see Lucy as a bully but we don’t know why she behaves that way. It’s very possible she was bullied when she was little which caused the behavior, she’s always been insecure about herself, and lashing out is her way of coping, or her parents were very neglectful and she always craved attention but never received any. This doesn't excuse any of her behavior, bullying is never something that should be tolerated but maybe Lucy isn't as big of a jerk as everyone thinks she is.
Schroeder paraphrases Henry Higgins at the end of _My Fair Lady._ The strip that bit was based on also appeared in the beginning of _Play It Again, Charlie Brown._
i mean i do understand why schroder doesn't like lucy sometimes, she's a bit of a bully as is. but she was always sweet on him i suppose, so it makes sense. puppy love is a strange thing
I played Schroeder in my 8th grade musical and I still keep in touch with the young lady who played Lucy and I still love her to this day. Think about it.
Even if Charlie Brown isn't correct about the whole "picking on her" thing, he's not entirely wrong to dis on shroeder like this. Remember, lucy AND linus are both moving away, charles has to say goodbye to a close friend and probably feels bitter about never getting to kick that football. It's also sorta refreshing to see Charlie Brown not taking shit for once. He's never defended Lucy before, that's kinda saying something.
