- This year marks the 20th anniversary of Us3’s acclaimed, platinum-certified 1993 album, Hand On The Torch and its gold-certified lead single, “Cantaloop (Flip Fantasia)." To celebrate the occasion, the album has been digitally remastered and expanded with four new remixes of “Cantaloop” for a new 2-CD 20th Anniversary Edition on September 17, 2013 by Blue Note/UMe smarturl.it/US3...
Music video by US3 Featuring Rahsaan And Gerard Presencer performing Cantaloop (Video) (Feat. Rahsaan And Gerard Presencer).
My mother and father danced to this song every night in my youth. They passed away a day apart from each other. They left me alone, but I listen to this song and I feel them close to me again.
That is such a wicked cool memory. They sound like they were some fun parents.
They are dancing to cantaloop in heaven.
I’m sorry for your loss 😢, but it good to hear that this song makes you feel better ❤❤
My sincere condolences. 🙏
U had some kickass parent
One of the coolest songs ever recorded.

Fa sho! ⚡️❤️🔥
Always loved this song. When my daughter was little and this song came on the radio she would scream “digga, digga bop!” and it got turned up loud and we jammed!
I DJ'd a 90's set this past weekend and this song popped up in my head. I could NOT remember the name for the life of me. Had to get a bit creative to find the name but I did. When I dropped it, the crowds reaction was priceless. So glad I included this in my set. I'll never forget the name of this classic again.
This is one example of how dope 90's hip hop was.
Yes
true that
The jazz/hip-hop genre is so criminally underrated.
fa shizzle my nizzle
So true 👍
Who still likin that bomb ass trumpet in 2024??
I'm here 30 yrs later jamming out AGAIN... like "they really WERE onto something here🥹!"
Just heard it for first time in probably over 15 years last week on 93XRT. Had to come here and listen to it again.
The trumpet was originally played by a young white kid from England
I'm stil knee deep in this Groove.
You know it
Thanks to the Johnsonville ad I’m here now. Great song!
Me too thanks Johnsonville sausage
Same here!!
I have no idea what ad you're talking about, and now I will start seeing it all the time
Same reson im here lol
I just saw a tv commercial with this song. I ALWAYS loved it. Im a white 70 yr old man! 😆❤️
Me too!!! Not the 70 year old white man part tho 😂😂😂
lol the sausage one? thats how i found it and im a teen white girl
I just saw it too and had to come find it!😂
Me 2
Just seen it too and it reminded me of what a great tune this is. From a 63 year old dude.
This 55 year old remembers this song quite well from half his life ago. Still very smooth and cool. Such a great jazz fusion song is timeless
Youre there, brother ! Im same age !
This song could've been introduced in any year, from 1900 to now,and STILL would've been a hit.
This 71-year-old agrees.
@@biomedlib And this 50-year old too! :P
This 71-year-old remembers too.😊
1990s was great music in EVERY genre
Anybody jamming to this 30 years later?!
Hi , I first heard it when I was 20, still LOVE , and I'm 50 now!!! Woohoo 🎉❤
Me!!! I was 10 then and now I am 40~ love from China
This is NO WAY my genre, but it's a groovy song.
You bet, bro.
I was driving my friend's car when I heard this for the 1st time - me a metalhead!!!
I remember catching the tail end of this music video on MTV in 1994 and thinking, "If only I had turned on the TV five minutes earlier!" Thank God for TH-cam.
One of my favorite songs from high school. It introduced people to jazz, to a little hip hop, to a little pop. This is the ultimate intro song to all of America
what about the Rock&Roll
Except the metal
And They’re British. Ironic.
This song got me liking jazz in high school
And the world ! It altered how I looked hip hop and jazz permanently. I was entirely into 70s prog rock, being a 60s child. I love this !
If you're listening to this song, you have great taste in music!
Likewise
No shit! I was spinning these guys as a college DJ in the early '90s-- LOVE. THIS. ALBUM.
It’s funky funky funky. Brings a smile to the face!
I haven't heard this song in 20 plus years and still know 90% of the lyrics. Such a great song.
@@hunterdean4766 FUNKY FUNKY!
Still here in 2024. One of my favorite jams my 7 and 3 year old request this one in my car taking them to daycare weekly. Feel like I'm a good dad.
July 2024, I’m 64 & my fabulous 39 year old son are bopping to this right now ✌️♥️
74 yr-old here who will never get this song outta my head.
This song is timeless.
This song has 3 minutes and 41 seconds of time.
Probably Herbie Hancock is timeless, not sure
@@asturcon79 Yes, Cantaloupe Island
I agree, but as noted here, Herbie Hancock deserves a lot of the credit.
@@asturcon79 Thank you.
Im 66, bass player. This was one of the best albums ever released. I have never grown tired of it. Groovin since 1993!
Herbie Hancock was a legend. Cantaloupe Island, which this track is based on is a masterpiece of its own.

You got it. He did it 1st.

Yessssss
Hands down this is the most underrated song of the 90s
This song was everywhere in everything. People still listen to it today. It's still featured in movies. This song has been light years away from underrated since it debuted.
I don't think this song has ever been underrated. People rate it very highly.
@@hundovir A lot of people don't even know the name of the song or The group which makes it underrated.
@@kareemsupremet.v.5189 No - it's little known by people of your generation (I'm assuming you're relatively young compared to my 64 years). I realise this sounds a bit like "underrated", but it's different. "Underrated" means "rated lower than it should be", not "not rated high or low by many people because they don't know about it".
(I've also seen "underrated" applied in the same way to the band King Crimson - who have always been rated highly as one of the most creative and innovative bands of all time. Though probably not known by many people under the age of 25/30.)
Who else was watching and listening to this on MTV in 1993!
Or on "the box". Cable channel in Miami, you could play a video from the menu. Had to call the cable company and it played right away. If no one ordered it just sat there with a TV guide kinda screen.
I heard it first on Melrose Place. Lol. I loved it and had to buy the single.
I did, though my family stole cable
I doubt I had time for TV in 1993
Takes me back every time.
I'm 63. It's been my fav song for years 😂
Bc we were only 33 when it came out! Time flies, some music is truly timeless
I’ve had the piano, trumpet, and drums of this song intermittently stuck in my head for about a year. This is a song my mom introduced me to, and after her passing it popped into my head, and despite consulting other family members, no one had any idea what song I was trying to recall. Today, standing at work, with the song yet again stuck in my head, suddenly I recalled the phrase “bidi bidi bop.” I cannot express how thankful I am that those words were enough to bring me back here.
So glad you found it again, she had great taste in music.
My mom loves this song too.
Rip to your sweet mother 🤍
Those were the words I searched for too lol
Congratulations! I've spent weeks searching for songs, and know the feeling.
Bidi bidi pop yes there's something about it.
Jazz + Funky = Fantastic
= FunkJazztic :)
I bought this 12" vinyl record in 1993. I still own it! I love it!! I used to DJ parties in Chicago. It packed the dance floor.
I also DJ and I love this song! I just played it for my 9 year old daughter while waiting for the bus to pick her up, and started dancing to it. She was like, "You better be done before the bus gets here!" Lol
I just heard this on a Johnsonville sausage commercial? It brought me back so many great car rides I had this on a cassette and I wore the hell out if it out of it😎😎
I forgot all about this song, until i heard it on that commercial.
Me too. Made me wanna dance
I had to come find it!
These companies are going "Into the Crates" for music to support their product.
I so love this. I can't believe it's been so long, almost 30 years since this came out, and still just as fresh.
It ACTUALLY IS 30 years ago now!!
This beat got lost in time somewhere!!! Such a great 90's hip hop track!!!
Agree, I have been looking on and off for this song for many years, I tried so many word combinations that described the video because I didn't remember any of the text, found it by luck today. I used to really like this song in the early to mid 90s, I haven't listened to it for over 20 years.
@@rexsand1321 me the same , just remembered this tune was used in old Roland Garros tennis tournament ad years ago
@@rexsand1321 I re-found it on Clarkson's Motorworld Japan episode, years ago.
This song was so ahead of its time. I wasn't into it back in 1993, but today it sounds like a total masterpiece to me.
Exactly how I felt too. Now I hear it and it sounds totally different
sei como e mano
You've grown... Congratulations 🎶👊🏿
There's was lots of rap that sounded like this 91-93, before The Chronic and Snoop took over everything
So I wouldnt say "ahead of it's time" it sounds just like 8th grade to me (92-93)
It's based on a song from 1964
Damn.....I miss the 90's
I know right...
This may not be the best song ever written, but it's definitely one of the coolest.
herbie hancock
You don't understand the lyrics. But you will in the future. Future testimony on the news.
It's like a fine wine. It only gets better. This will be a classical composition which scholars study centuries from now
This song most certainly is timeless and deserves all the praise. I have never quantified it fully but Cantaloop ranks pretty high up in my top10 of all time!

Of all time I think!
Jazzy funk, groove, hip hop, trumpets - oh yes !- piano ( magic) , cool drums, amazing tempo...
Guys? How can you be so talented ????
God please if you're listening take me back to 1994. I was 16 and wasn't married or have kids. Things were better back then. This being an adult shit sucks!
Oh my goodness, hell yeah, not saying I don't love the kids and little Pops that followed, and so funny coz my youngest, 2 teenage girls asked me what I was doing when this came out. I was running amok!!! Best times, I was, 20. WOOHOOOOOO 🎉
I feel that, I was 10 years old and not a care in the world. Now I am in a wheelchair working my ass off to get by. I wish I could go back to the 90s so bad.

A masterpiece of music, US3.
We have the immortal Herbie Hancock to thank for this masterpiece fusion of hip hop and jazz... BRILLIANT!
Yes the greatest drummer ever lived played on this Herbie Hancock classic. The unmistakable Tony Williams who was probably bout 18 years old on this track. Also the great Freddie Hubbard on trumpet!!!
Cool as ice and smooth as silk...
