I kinda disagree with the assumption that the upper class is the fashion trailblazer in this example, and that it trickles down to he lower classes. We have witnessed marginalized groups coming up repeatedly with unique creative styles (hairdos/ accessories / jewelry /fabrics/ shoes...) that are then appropriated by the wealthy, severed from their actual origins, and re-marketed to the masses as their own original idea. It's more akin to plagiarism and gives no credit or mention to the original creators.
I feel this isn't adressed enough. Just my two cents, but the real trendsetters might not be who you think.
