106 KMEL, December 1987 - Part 3

Aircheck. KMEL was a legendary radio powerhouse, situated in San Francisco. In the early 1980's, it was a rock station, but in 1984, it changed format to CHR/Top 40. In 1987, it got more rhythmic, with emphasis on freestyle. In 1992, it again changed format to Hip Hop/R&B.
The songs have been shortened purposely, but commercials and jingles are kept intact.

Hey thanks for posting/sharing!!! Is that "Mitch Craig" as the station imaging voice there? Whoever it is here, I think he's got one of the best, if not THE best station imaging voices I've ever heard, with the most memorable line of his for me being the "69 Thousand Watts of Music P P P P Power, 106 point 1, K-M-E-L FM, San Francisco ,Oakland, San Jose"!!! :) I'm not sure which I enjoyed listening to more, Mitch Craig or the music, ha ha! (And maybe for me, St. John might be the only one who might tie with Mitch Craig, though their voices are of course pretty different, but each pretty awesome in their own ways!) The current KMEL voice (I think Eric Edwards) is pretty much right up there too I think! I think there were maybe a couple of other station voices for a very short time, before I think they settled on Eric Edwards who it seems has been doing it for many years now for KME,L just like Mitch Craig was doing it for quite some time; am I right? I actually have not been listening to KMEL or radio in general lately, or for some time now actually.) It's also nice to hear some of the other DJs on the aircheck too - a bit of nostalgia and reminiscence!!! :) And the music too, ha ha, I remember - takes you right back!!! :) Thanks again!!!
