Right. Came here to say that. The whole point of the song is still having to put on the show and give the experience even if you’re not feeling it. Also, has nobody on this feed ever heard of Ben Folds “Brick?” Not a sad note in that song. I guess that’s technically A minor but that’s the 6th of what now? 😅
I love your channel and all your stuff. It’s very generous of you to share all your knowledge. But sometimes you come across as a hater spreading negativity. Not that I’m a Taylor fan. But there are many sad songs with a major tonality. David Bennett Piano (TH-camr) just did a great video on it. I’ve been playing Lonestar by Norah Jones. It’s a melancholy song in C major. It’s fine not to like modern pop music. But bashing other artists by cherry picking what you don’t like isn’t a good vibe to put out in the world. Nor is it consistent with the rest of your positive music appreciation of the rest of your website.
Thank you, that's definitely an apt way to describe this. My ear just doesn't think this sounds appealing, tho I know she has an enormous fanbase. Glad they all have each other, I guess. No hate on Tay Tay, but I just don't get it at all
The song is about her high functioning depression. Putting on the biggest show of all despite how she was feeling. I never thought this album would hit the stage, but the performances are mindblowing. Very interesting prelude to this one on the stage showing her reanimation from essentially dead to top performer .
Could we say that musically the song is in dychotomy with the meaning, or that this is a delibarate stark contrast between form and content, expressing the dualistic, schyzophrenic life which she needs to lead in order to maintain the place she had managed to secure herself in her profession.
Bro you just got done saying that she isn't doing what everyone else does when something is depressing and then you tell her to stop doing what everyone else does
I'm still waiting for her album when she realizes after way too many failed relationships that's it's probably her and not them..let me know when that comes out😊
It's like at Christmastime, listen to the difference between George Michael and Taylor Swift singing "Last Christmas". George's version has emotion and Taylor's sounds like she's just going through the motions.
I watched this in the longer form video. Rick is great. I thought it was good how he kind of called Taylor out for playing it safe and encouraged her to take a risk and do something new.
Yea I honestly feel like Rick is missing out here. That is a great album of largely guitar-based music with really interesting time signatures. He should get Aaron Dessner on the channel
Yes Taylor. Please start writing your sad songs In D. Nigel Tufnel says it’s the saddest of all keys, and Rick Beato holds a similar opinion. What other opinions matter? I say, None. Oh, recording it in Dubly might help as well. I hope that big tour is going well Taylor. Make sure you’re stage designers know the difference between an inch and a foot, and it should work out just fine.
Disappointed Rick's so dismissive. There's a reason for the incongruousness between the music and the lyrics. I get he's not got time to deep dive into each song, but c'mon.
You hit the nail on the head with “she has the ability and resources to do something new, but she doesn’t “ or something like that. IMO this is the issue with todays artists. They could influence the people with messages about the worlds larger issues…instead it’s another album about their ex 😮
Pop singers don't have a moral obligation to inundate their fans with songs about world issues. Having popular celebrities set the basis of your morals and ethics just scream cult bahavior.
How will buying a jet cure her saddness if she is sad because a previous relationship didn't work out?? I am very curious why you & Rick believe this makes sense.
Isn't the whole vibe of Taylor Swift just C Major breakup? This is her style, she's not depressed, she's happy that it's over, it's supposed to be empowering. Change it to minor and she is just every other depressed artist.
Usually you're 100& Rick, but you miss the mark here. If you listen to the entire song, it's in C to show the dichotomy between what everyone (fans, promoters, label) expect day after day, performance after performance and what she is feeling inside.
Taylor is in her mid 30s and still writing and singing teenager's songs. Come on Taylor, grow up and write songs in a more mature perspective. Your fans are growing older with you.
I’m pretty understanding of most genres/artists I personally dislike. But Swift is one of those ones where I seriously don’t understand the appeal one bit. Oh well.
If every relationship you have ends with you thinking they’re bad guys….theres really only two possibilities - 1) you are choosing the wrong guys in the first place and number 2…if it’s every relationship you’ve had where the only constant is you, it might not be them who’s the problem…. As for her music, I’m surrounded by swifties, I’ve tried listening to see what all the fuss is about and I honestly tried to find reasons to enjoy her music but it did absolutely nothing for me. It’s like KISS, some people think they’re the greatest but I just don’t get the appeal. Same with Taylor. But if it inspires one kid to take up music or develop further interest in music, then have at it. Each to their own but I’d take Beth Hart over Taylor any day. Beth is an amazing singer, songwriter and her music makes me feel something. Taylor’s sounds, to me, like any other female pop singer. A dime a dozen, I don’t understand how she’s attained this cult like status. I truly don’t. But more power to her.

She's horribly successful, has written plenty of sad songs already, and it's very clear this isn't a Taylor Swift song. It's a song entirely produced to be a hit song. It's not innovative, it's not true, it's not intriguing.
@@levindy6 everyone wants something different, then they complain when they get something that sounds different
Love that you slipped in some Spinal Tap!
i love taylor and i like the juxtaposition or whatever you call it lol. but i do agree that she could do different stuff sometimes
it was called 'lick my love pump' if i remember correctly. lol
She is lying to you all. It's a business
Don't be depressed Taylor. Buy another jet!
T. Swift's music sounds like the opening of a crappy 90's teen tv show
I'm a Swiftie as well as... a Beato-ie? You're not wrong but also that is kinda the point of that song. I really like this album but it's definitely more because of the lyrics than the technical musical creativity. Also I'm putting "If you're depressed you shouldn't be in C Major" on a tshirt.
@@TravisSturmdamn that was a great explanation of the song and meaning
I’ll finish that sentence for you Rick. “And she does…. Absolute bullsh1t like this AGAIN!” Yep, agreed.
🤣
Common W from beato
The major "happy" sound fits with the lyrics. Thought it was one of the best productions on the album tbh.
Sounds like a song you'd hear on a PBS kids' show.
Spinal Tap
'It's called Lick My Love Pump.'
Judging by her bank account, Rick, I think she knows exactly what she's doing. 😂
Nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste and intelligence of the American public.
Damn Rick you bring balance to the force!
There are lots of dark songs made with major chords
Example: "in the pines" (E B A G B G E)
Or Porcupine tree's "remember me lover"
Sounds like a tv commercial jingle from the 80s
Thank you, that's definitely an apt way to describe this. My ear just doesn't think this sounds appealing, tho I know she has an enormous fanbase. Glad they all have each other, I guess. No hate on Tay Tay, but I just don't get it at all
Rick NAILS the C Maj diss then doubles down with Spinal Tap reference for style points LOL Love it.
The song is about her high functioning depression. Putting on the biggest show of all despite how she was feeling.
I never thought this album would hit the stage, but the performances are mindblowing. Very interesting prelude to this one on the stage showing her reanimation from essentially dead to top performer .
But I will admit it, the song is kinda cheesy out of context.
Listening to Taylor swift is like eating a sandwich on white bread with no filling
So weird but my wife is a huge swifty and I told her the other day that listening to her music made me feel like I was eating a plain rice patty
@@dantheman348 🤣 it’s pleasant music but make me feel nothing. Just a plain rice patty
And Bb minor is just plain DARK! Ask Chopin.
Could we say that musically the song is in dychotomy with the meaning, or that this is a delibarate stark contrast between form and content, expressing the dualistic, schyzophrenic life which she needs to lead in order to maintain the place she had managed to secure herself in her profession.
Thank you. You would think a guy like Rick Beato would be able to understand that.
he was making a joke lol
@@auraxin4949 Watch the full video. I'm pretty sure he wasn't.
I think she is trying to express that you can have moments of happiness while you are depressed.
Bro you just got done saying that she isn't doing what everyone else does when something is depressing and then you tell her to stop doing what everyone else does
Well earned solid burn! Love it!
I'm still waiting for her album when she realizes after way too many failed relationships that's it's probably her and not them..let me know when that comes out😊
that would involve taking accountability. don't hold your breath.
One of her most popular songs is about exactly this. It's called Anti-Hero.
She already did. You would know if you actually listened to her
Brilliant Rick Beato moment!
She’s playing it safe. She’s fallen into the trap of trying to make hits or replicate past success instead of writing meaningful, great songs.
Never got the hype with Taylor.
It's like at Christmastime, listen to the difference between George Michael and Taylor Swift singing "Last Christmas". George's version has emotion and Taylor's sounds like she's just going through the motions.
Thank you. I could not agree more.
I thought this album sucked, but.... It's dichotomy, happy music with sad lyrics
Rick missed the point
She is pretty amazing at performing a show, and she makes TONS of money.
Patsy Cline sang lots of upbeat sad songs.
Swift is still riding the wave of success. The Empire is, as always, risk afferse. Perhaps newer offerrings will bring another side of TS.
Come on Taylor, you should do something new. But don't you dare to create contrast by combining sad lyrics with a happy key!! Stick to the classics!!
I watched this in the longer form video. Rick is great. I thought it was good how he kind of called Taylor out for playing it safe and encouraged her to take a risk and do something new.
I like taylor swift
Folklore & Evermore....maybe give a listen
She says she “acts like it’s her birthday”…maybe that’s why it’s upbeat and in C Major?…
The Smiths did depression in a major key…
I love when sad songs are in major, and when happy songs are in minor! It's part of the message. She's saying she's faking it. C'monnn. It's perfect.
Swift is offensively bad. Every time i hear a song that is like extra terrible, always turns out to be her.
Sonic vomit.
You completey missed the point of the lyrics here
Actually, the most popular songs are the ones that use "happy" chords with sad lyrics. Check it.
Yes, but on the other hand I found „my tears ricochet” and “marooned” quite remarkable.
Yea I honestly feel like Rick is missing out here. That is a great album of largely guitar-based music with really interesting time signatures. He should get Aaron Dessner on the channel
and this is why we should just leave this page as a “taylor’s haters jackpot” cuz we cannot do anything about it + let the haters hate 😂
Taylor Swift does suck..Really.
Maybe Taylor should cover Kick My Love Pump.
Rick.. you are a gift to my music world!!! So grateful!!.. lets look at Ronnie James Dio
They could influence the people with messages about the worlds larger issues…instead it’s another album about their ex 😮
or create something sonically/lyrically challenging but it's the same garbage like always
Pop singers don't have a moral obligation to inundate their fans with songs about world issues. Having popular celebrities set the basis of your morals and ethics just scream cult bahavior.
old man yells at cloud
That's what's so sad about this generation. They got more opportunity and more tools but they make it kindergarten simple
Ah he left out ny favorite part! "If you're depressed Taylor, just go out and buy another jet!"
How will buying a jet cure her saddness if she is sad because a previous relationship didn't work out?? I am very curious why you & Rick believe this makes sense.
@@claudiasolomon1123 I know! These people lack empathy. Just because she's rich doesn't mean she can't get sad
Because it's all a farce to sell more albums
Isn't the whole vibe of Taylor Swift just C Major breakup? This is her style, she's not depressed, she's happy that it's over, it's supposed to be empowering. Change it to minor and she is just every other depressed artist.
Usually you're 100& Rick, but you miss the mark here. If you listen to the entire song, it's in C to show the dichotomy between what everyone (fans, promoters, label) expect day after day, performance after performance and what she is feeling inside.
The Big Bang of rock and roll 🎸 we’ll remember as true and genuine creator of real music.
Before this album Taylor Swift had 19 songs that are the same, same chord progression, I don't know now
Taylor is in her mid 30s and still writing and singing teenager's songs. Come on Taylor, grow up and write songs in a more mature perspective. Your fans are growing older with you.
Had me til that last part.
The ones who grow up move on to something else. Like Kacy Musgraves. Or Neko Case.
Apparently they're not
@@monkmchorningI grew up and started listening to metal.
do you even know what the song is about? if you did you'd might actually change your mind. But that would take thought to dive into things.
Those who cannot do teach…. Continue rambling. Swift is a once in a lifetime phenomenon but oldies mentalities can’t get it. So much envy
I think you missed the whole point of the song!
Taylor Swift is what’s wrong with this country.
Number 100 on the list !
Adam’s Song by Blink-182
Most depressing song in C Major 💪
This is by far the most Bleachers song Jack Antonoff has produced for her. It’s almost like it was repurposed.
I’m pretty understanding of most genres/artists I personally dislike. But Swift is one of those ones where I seriously don’t understand the appeal one bit. Oh well.
It’s too easy to take shots at Taylor.. it’s not easy to come up with something new and original!
I mean we recently heard Ricks band and I'm not saying they are bad, but innovative is not the term that comes to mind.
Cue up Porcupine Tree, "Shallow"
Rick, Rick, Rick...the point of Taylor Swift's "music" isn't artistic expression. Its indoctrination of adolescents.
“Sad song should be minor not major” is some of the most low level musical analysis I’ve ever heard
write a song then if you have such high level musical analysis
@@thuctram7209 I do write music but that’s not really relevant at all to what I said. Rick’s supposed to be a pro, I would have thought that sort of statement would be beneath him
Usually it should but there are plenty of songs in a major arrangement that are cryptic or just straight up sad
