I don’t wish to be morbid, but I am nearing the end of my life due to cancer. This song has given me great comfort. It’s the only music I want played at the farewell gathering when I’m gone. Thank you, Mr. Byrne and Mr. Eno.
This reminds me of when I was a teenager and saw the Talking Heads perform at the Cape Cod Coliseum - basically a stage at the end of a hockey rink without the ice. I was barely 10 yards from the stage in the throng. David Byrne came out alone with just a boombox and a guitar, and played "Psycho Killer". After every song one more band member would come out with another instrument, until there were 15 or 20 on stage and they played "Once in a Lifetime". To say it was an epic, almost spiritual experience, is not an exaggeration, nor is another comment for this video that described Byrne as a national treasure. He seems to have the mind of a physicist, the courage of a soldier, and the heart of a child. He is all of these and more.
I complete my tasks, one by one I remove my masks, when I am done Then a peace of mind fell over me In these troubled times, I still can see We can use the stars to guide the way It is not that far, that one fine... One fine day
In a sense - maybe two, but I mean in all. When he dies, like the greatest composers we've ever had, he will simply become music, but that's not what I want. I want my grandchildren who are as of yet unborn to be able to collaborate in real time with a living David Byrne. Some people should simply not perish and David Byrne is one of those.
Filthy McNasty I disagree. New people are necessary for the evolution of humans and thought. The vast vast majority of us do not deserve immortality and would squander it if we had it.
I dunno how to put it, but, David Byrne seems to have a ‘humbleness’ before the music. He saunters in with the choir and waits for his cue, he never seems to crave the focus or the attention, just to make beautiful sound, and at the end when he turns to the choir to applaud, look at the grin on David and Mauro’s faces. They just love doing this.
I have only recently discovered what an amazing person David Byrne is . (thanks to my son ) . I read Bicycle Diaries during a recent hospital stay and found it to be cathartic and inspiring . A multi-faceted artist - this mans boundless humanity is life affirming
This incredible song touches my soul and lifts my spirit. I cannot stop listening to it as I watch the video over and over. “One Fine Day” is beyond extraordinary. Thank You, David.
Kenneth Taylor I discovered David Byrne and Talking Heads in the Eighties while watching Down and Out in Beverly Hills. Once in a Lifetime was on the soundtrack. So different. So eccentric. But still simple and accessible. He's helped shape the way I look at music.
David, you pass the test time and time again. What matters isn’t fame, wealth; words without action, or how you look on Instagram; but true cultural significance with lasting impact. I saw you first when I was 15yrs old, at Edinburgh, Odeon; was riveted then, and you’re still the benchmark.
Nothing better than a choir, entering through the audience, singing. Just wonderful.Maybe the coolest thing is hearing all the individual and collected voices here. Really love this.
Yes! Maybe humans truly divine purpose is to sing together. When people say they are spiritual but not religious I think of how choirs and chorus make the sounds of many into one's sound so pure and so strong.
Saw the wanderin' eye, inside my heart Shouts and battle cries, from every part I can see those tears, every one is true When the door appears, I'll go right through, oh I stand in liquid light, like everyone I built my life with rhymes, to carry on And it gives me hope, to see you there The things I used to know, that one fine One fine day In a small dark room- where I will wait Face to face I find- I contemplate Even though a man- is made of clay Everything can change- that one fine- Then before my eyes, is standing still I beheld it there, a city on a hill I complete my tasks, one by one I remove my masks, when I am done Then a piece of mind, fell over me In these troubled times, I still can see We can use the stars, to guide the way It is not that far, the one fine
Me neither. I didn't cry but the tears just kept rolling off my face I love him he's so awesome and what a way to put it all together at towards the end towards the end
OH MY GOODNESS....#davidbyrne #brianeno and the most AMAZING #brooklynyouthchoir...This is an honour to watch,my eye's filling with tears to such a beautiful sound of togetherness and one love in such hard times everywhere. Absolutely blown away by this powerful song. Always been a huge fan of David Byrne and Brian Eno's work. I really hope we can ALL have ~One Fine Day~ and the planet can be in peace. If a great musical leader and legend is needed to guide our beloved young talent to express themselves going forward . . . then let it be the great David Byrne. He's the best.
They probably don't know who he is! And how talented he is! They probably think that he should go on America's got talent, to get himself into the music industry!! Bless em!!
This is a wonderful song! The lyrics are pure poetry and deep on many levels. It seems prophetic given that it was composed pre-Covid. It seems to be an anthem to get us out of the madness and back to being human again and united to God.
Grandissimo musicista sig David Byrne , secondo solo a mia madre quando mi urlava di tornare in casa x cena, visto a Pistoia, (It) diversi anni fa , Grazie di cuore per la sua stupenda musica

Truly
Such a beautiful and apt description of a genuine artist. He is the conscience of true creativity without the commercial motivation.
Well said
God, I love David Byrne. The world is a better place with him in it.
Has anyone listened to this recently during our current situation? It seems it is a song for our times. Gave me chills, tears and hope on 6/11/2020

Maybe he got older, but his voice remands the same.
Great voice.
exactly what i thought
Same as it ever was.

Better than ever. Deep, warm, mellow.

David has such a wonderfully unique voice. Love it.
And it hasn't changed. He sounds the same as he did in 1977... which is when I first fell in love with his singing.
Kenneth Taylor I discovered David Byrne and Talking Heads in the Eighties while watching Down and Out in Beverly Hills. Once in a Lifetime was on the soundtrack. So different. So eccentric. But still simple and accessible. He's helped shape the way I look at music.
The most original musician/actor/entertainer the world has seen. More polished now he is older but still "out there." BRAVO !!!
