I and we all followed Maynard, but for me as a fan since 1970 and I'm now at years of age, a survivor of abuse. There isn't one day Maynard and his incredibly talented musicians are not heard. Thank you so much.
This is from the period where Maynard lived in London. Astonishing good sound and a very fine orchestra. I have had this Album/Record for +50 years by now an still find small details within. Maynard does his hign note trade mark, but still in a very controlled way.
One of the greatest ever to play a trumpet! Very inspiring and musical at the same time. I was fortunate to see MF some 32 shows with recordings of 25! The reason I started trumpet in 1975! Thanks MF
This is like trumpet porn. I say that with the greatest amount of respect for the amazing artist that is Maynard and his fellow band mates. An incredible track. A trumpet player's wet dream. Great post.
For most people, yes. For some people, it isn't that hard. It wasn't for me as a freshman in high school less than a year after I picked up the trumpet for the first time. But to play with that kind of upper range, fat, resonant sound in all registers, especially beyond double high G, flexibility between all registers, and to maintain that ability over a 60 year career, that's a rarity.
Concert D-flat Major 9 #11. It's a tri-tone substitution for the G major 5 chord leading to the concert C tonic. The french horns play concert G which is the #11th of the D-flat major 9 #11 chord and that note serves to remind us of the G major 5 chord that the tri-tone substitution replaced. Maynard plays the #11th and the 9th of that chord.

Fantastic memories of listening to this album back in the 70's when I was in my 20's. Probably my favourite track on the album.
Everything he plays is gold....

I didn't count but if you put all the MF Live views I had in a semi you would have a truck trailer full!
My absolute favorite album ever, the best of Maynard !! I got to see Maynard several times throughout the years, never a disappointment.
I’ve played the trumpet for over fifty years and I can’t get that high even after a full night of drinking!

I own this on CD. I wish Maynard had done more recordings with stings!!!¡
Thoses chops were born free
Not really. He said he didn't play his first double high C until he was 17 and just a couple of times. He was 21 when he was able to play them more

I like that sound with the full orchestra behind him
M.Ferguson. Very good remember, when played many years ago with our Jazz Band of Gustav Brom.J.H.

Maynard was just playing around with us on this one, an E-ticket ride.
What“s the Chord in 0:14 ? A wonderful Arrangement
