I remember playing the demo of this on Hitman Blood Money. Man, I tell you if I saw "Eidos" on a game box back in the day, I was picking that game up. I miss all the unique FPS premises people would come up with in the older game generations.
Eidos, Rare, Konami, Squaresoft, Apogee, Enix, Capcom, Rockstar, anything with the name Hideo Kojima stapled to it etc. Some of those marks of, at least at the time, near guaranteed quality, give or take a questionable decision here and there. I would play demos of Eidos games more than actual ones, Hitman 2 at the time being one, but they all just REEKED of quality and drive toward fun schüt game above all else.
I vividly remember that if you spun your aiming controller stick in a circle, you’d twirl your pistol on your finger and your next headshot with the pistol would automatically do the slow mo cam
I didn't think you'd ever get to Urban Chaos: Riot Response, so happy you did! This game was one my all time favourites from that old grungy era of games, the excessive dialogue of the gang members, the way they non stop talk sh*t to the player using no end of F-bombs and calling them by name with their psychopath voice over delivery. It mad fun fighting these guys the whole game.
Something about how this game moves along, reminds me of arcade games. Not just because I jump in and play for 20 min before doing other stuff. Its how the in game moments feel, you know what i mean? That partially on rails feeling.
Damn this brought back memories. My older Cousin was and still is a hardcore gamer and would always let me borrow a game whenever I seen him and he let me borrow this and I was hooked, one of my fav moments is when you're on the container level and one of the burners was hanging off of a crane, was so satisfying hitting a shot and watching him fall in slow motion. Great video!
1:25 that Guy Fieri shirt is so indicative of the times, bagawd. Also much respect to you for taking the brunt of being a First Responder. If you aren't already familiar, I would recommend Fire Department Chronicles, a channel run by an EMS/firefighter who gives both useful advice, real life stories via skits, and just goofy skits about the life of being on the recieving end of a 911 call. Dude's brilliant, and I recommend anyone reading this comment give him a watch
When I was like 4 or 5, my father's roommate left his PS2 behind along with a handful of games when he moved out and this was one of them. Haven't seen anyone else talk about it since and it's a real shame. Thanks for covering it!
I remember playing this as a kid, and being terrified and thrilled at the same time, throughout the entire play through. The pure chaos of it all, the guys with cleavers in creepy masks. I loved it.
You chose a genuine real gem here bud, one of my absolute favorite guilty pleasures I still enjoy today! Reminds me of a first person "Manhunt" game with the numerous hard core street thugs! This game is also somewhat prophetic as crime in America is quickly ramping up to the levels of violence within this game ironically. I enjoy all my original Xbox games via my 2 modded original Xbox consoles via component cables for a crisp resolution on a older high end Samsung TV. Many seem to give up on playing a older game if it's not available to play on a PC, it's so easy to enjoy non backwards compatible Xbox & Xbox 360 games simply by using the original consoles which are plentiful & affordable.
Ahhh, the good ole days of X-Play. That show is responsible for introducing me to so many great games on the PS2, such as Guilty Gear X2. I never saw their review on this game, though. It's too bad that Adam is a lunatic now.
@@FallouFitness_NattyEdition Yeah man, great memories. Speaking of Adam, I remember at PAX 2016, I was leaving and heard someone go ham on G4. Looked behind me and saw it was Adam ☠️
Iirc there may have been, but it drifted into a direction not in like with the more arcade-y goofy madness of the original. If I edit this, you'll know for sure.
Ahhhhhhhh yes yes yes. My older brother and I, a CD player with 50 Cent Get Rich Or Die Trying, and this game. All night after school until we finished it and moved on. Still sad there wasn’t ever a sequel, but this was one of those games where it was cool to even find the full game on a shelf. Demo was cool but the game was so unique it felt surreal.
still have my copy! Fun fact: If u kill one of ur allies or if they die, the game pulls up their obituary with some somber music to get u emotionally invested which was a nice touch. simple yet effective
You work 3rd shift? I tried that once, got caught sleeping a few times lmao 11:23 you could do this same thing with the tazor in Syphon Filter on PS1. I wonder if they were inspired by that?
My God I absolutely loved this game. I spent a couple weeks during summer vacation in 2008 or so getting all the medals. When you earn all of the medals your pistol was replaced with the minigun.
The riot shield was the games strongest unique factor that had me hooked. I loved watching it take a serious beating throughout the story mission. I used to be able to line up headshot after headshot using the shield. The game was ahead of it's time.
If you play this game on PCSX2, you can use Mouse Injector to aim with your mouse as if it was a PC game. It's way better than binding mouse movements to the right analog stick in controller settings.
Funny to see Rocksteady’s early game development career here. They went from making an FPS game, to making best selling DC licensed games. How they’ve evolved so much over the years.
The most mid-00's shooter ever made, featuring perhaps my favorite ridiculous enemy faction that is literally just Al-Qaeda Postal Workers. Never would have experienced this if my Grandma didn't pick it up for me graduating 8th grade because she thought It was something I would like judging from the cover. The games pretty brutal in hindsight where deaths to certain burner thugs will have them torture and play with Nick until he croaks, too. Even the escort missions feel empowering because your NPC buddies can easily hold their own, hell even the EMT can swing a KO punch and the Firefighters straight up go Jack Torrence on Burner asses! It's also got great pacing for the most part, with enemies lugging around Cleavers and Sawn-Offs before becoming fully militarized halfway through. The major problem I had is with the unlocks, as not only are older weapons locked out for you but unlocks infinite ammo that cannot be turned off making the game a cakewalk even on harder difficulties. But the worst offender is the pistol that goes from being a borderline air-soft handgun to becoming a literal WMD with the final unlock turning it into a god damned minigun. An absolute crime it never got a PC port. It's in the same boat as Black, Condemned 2, Bodycount and Cold Winter, permanently locked behind old tech that without a proper remaster, will never get a second wind.
Watch out for factor75. They have been hit with lawsuits over their auto resubcription. Also, they like to charge you for meals even if you try to skip a week and all of their customer service is handled by an Indian company that is extremely rude.
Phenomenal and underrated game. There's a reason it was the second video I ever uploaded to my channel many years ago. So much fun and glad to see this video on it!
I always saw this game growing up for sale and in bargain bins and thought it looked like jank low budget baby game. Didn't know it was a full blown action extravaganza . Especially seeing it for sale at movie stores/GameStop's closing down for like 5 bucks
Yeah sometimes it would be those games you got on the cheap, that were as good as all the Big Shelf titles for 40-50 at the time. They were just underestimated, not actually bad, but sometimes it was impossible to find out until you got home. for instance, I got Oni and Shaman King on PS2. I only bought Shaman King to see if I would get deeper into the anime/Manga. I didn't. Also I beat the game in like, 3 hours. And I couldn't go into versus mode unless I had a friend willing to play as well... so yeah 🍑💨 Oni was new to me but it was actually kinda fun at times. combat was dynamic and fluid, and a particular cheat code let you become any NPC in any given level for interesting play mechanics and takes on fights that were downright absurd in some instances and a power fantasy in others. Only problem was that the game's lighting was abysmal so if you were invincible and didn't make a certain jump, you were just stuck in Limbo and had to reload, and the game is very bad about telegraphing where you should go in more open areas. Other than that, I would recommend it highly as a janky little mid 00s treasure by Rockstar games attempting an anime game.
I got this game alongside the Reservoir Dogs game back in my PS2 days. It was quiet fun and enjoyable experience. I still play this through Emulation and still talked about this with my mates. It never got a remaster, after the IP went nowhere following Eidos acquisition with Square Enix.

This game would probably be too controversial to re-release or make a sequel for. There's a lot of whining about Police brutality and militarization and this game would just be seen as a promotion of all that. It wouldn't even matter that the officers in this game are genuinely completely justified in their extreme measures because there are real life cops that did their jobs completely by the book and were still given a walk of shame by the media and thrown in prison due to public outcry.

It's a real bummer that this game isn't available on PC or backwards compatible with newer consoles.
It is a shame but at least there's emulation with a mouse injector if you wanted it with a more PC like experience

I gotta say, the text going from "incapacitated" to "barbequed" if you hold the taser on too long on an enemy is hilarious.

Thanks for making this video. I played this game as a child but couldn't for the life of me remember it's name.
Did anybody tell him that stun gun and fully upgraded shotgun also pair with a flashlight?
Hard to believe that the same guys who would go on to redefine Batman in videogames started off with this small cult classic FPS.
You can actually equip the flashlight with the taser, you might not have noticed that but its possibl
The social commentary is right in your face, but it gets over looked because of the lackluster dialogue and over the top violence. Very clever.
