A very good fix and very well presented. It is good when problems are shown that might occur. I Would like to add, that you should use the thinnest and most flexible wires that you can find. Those in cheap headphones are often excellent for this task.

Thank you for this. My MZ-R30 has the same issue. About a year ago I recorded a disc and when it did TOC edit it failed and ruined the disc. After that the same issue as yours. So likely what happened is that the cable broke partway through the recording. You are brilliant. Thank you.

That's great job, to be able to make the head move freely I will use those wires from a old apple headpods those are paint coated and are very thin.

I have the same player and have heard about this issue before. One question, do the laser head in these players wear off over time?

Both Laser Head and the Recording head will wear off. However, It is still are long time to go. The ribbon cable is a more likely to break (this is unique to the MZ-Nxxx). The next thing goes bad would be the plastic driving gear next to the motor. The heads I will say there will still be 50 or more years to go. This is because many CD players and cassette deck are still working great and they are 40 - 70 years old.

The only thing I did was using web.minidisc.wiki/ to copy mp3 to MD

I just did a similar botch job on my MZ-R909, and the wires keep getting pinches under the head arm, so i will have to route them over
