My very cool Dad gave me Mind Games when it came out. I was 10. I can't express how much I loved it and still do today. My only irritation was that AM radio wasn't playing it enough when it was released. Mind Games is an AMAZING single, and I always felt it should have gone straight to #1. Out of the Blue is such a beautiful love song. Pair it down to acoustics, and it could fit into the White Album. One Day (At a Time) has the sweetest vocal and melody. I could write about every song. Excited for this release!
Thanks for this preview Andrew! It's really upped my enthusiasm for the Mind Games box when it comes out later this year. How great that you're receiving these advance copies as well, really pleased for you. 🙂
Hi Andrew! Finally! It has been way too long since the last solo Beatles box set. Still shocked that the “Ringo” album did not get a big box last year!
Hi Andrew, congratulations on getting this great gift from the Lennon Estate. Really looking forward to getting these. I'm most excited about Aisumasen (such an underrated track) and the 11 minute version of You Are Here. Sounds like these come under the banner of 'raw studio mixes' used on the previous Ultimate mixes box sets. Thanks from the preview, the excitement is building for the big one in the summer
Great video and very informative, so glad this album is being given a new lease of life. You cover all the elements really well. 11 minutes of ‘ you are here’ wow!
Thank you for sharing with us. I’m looking forward to this release, it was the first John Lennon solo album I owned so always has a special place in my heart.
Good to see you mate . I hope to get them all lilk for RSD !!! I will be doing a BIG video for RSD day a lot of Beatles as well for this day too cheers!!!!!
Another great video Andrew. Was initially gonna pass and wait for the official release, but will try and grab the glow in the dark version. Thanks!! ✌🏻❤️
Interesting Andrew, and wets the appetite for the ultimate release later. Thank you. My personal opinion of Mind Games? I didn't play it as often as Plastic Ono Band and Imagine, but I thought it was strong on melody with no bad tracks. I'm sure that this new release is going to increase our appreciation of the album. Fave tracks? Title track, You Are Here, Tight Ass, and Freeda People. My dad said that he preferred Nutopian International Anthem. 😂 Look forward to seeing your extensive review on the box set.
Great review, thankyou. Cant wait for the box set of this album esp after your reivew of how the tracks sound. Must admit I haven't been into vinyl collecting for years but I want that glow in the dark release 😀
I played Lennon's Mind Games album upon release in the 1970's and I played the original vinyl album more than any record during that decade. I seen a different perception of John. A more interesting guy than my perception of the Beatles days. I seen John still shy but much more focused on his relationship with the Beatles, Yoko Ono and his expanding interest in music from Elton to David Bowie. These interests in his expanding role of rock music gives me a new interest myself, with these new takes and remixes. Thank you very much for sharing. Glad you have the glow record.
Thanks for showing us the glow in the dark version Andrew, back in the day I would've loved that but now I just buy the cd versions, looking forward to the box set.
A free gift, eh? Nice. ⬆ ⬆⬆ By the way, I commented this before with a peace sign. Apparently pea e signs are "offensive" !!!!! and will get your comment deleted!!!!
Awesome review Mr. Dixon I will definitely try to get the Mind Games Ep for Records store day and I am definitely going to buy the box set, which I can’t wait until it comes out I also want to thank you for letting us know that these songs will be available on the box set This is wonderful to know because if I am not able to get this for record store day I don’t have to feel sad However, I do hope that I am able to get this Ep Thanks for another awesome video. God bless you and I will catch you on the next one.
So grateful for the advance review. These new remixes have all been fantastic. Sean has been doing outstanding work with his father legacy. If I can, I’ll grab both versions on 4/20. And of course the big set is a no brainer.
Hi Andrew ,the Stones have trumped the Beatles this time as the Abkco RSD 2020 release of More Hot Rocks was issued on Glow in the dark vinyl.Lets hope Sean sends you the box set when it comes you deserve it
Oh stop. I believe music should sound as good as possible without adding instruments, vocals, or sound effects. I want the best possible mixes. It isn’t 1976. Keep the songs in tact while making them sound as great as they can sound. You don’t have to buy this stuff and you can listen to your vinyl from 1976.
Nice job, Andrew. The store that I went to today for RSD only had 3 copies and ALL were sold by the time I got in the store* (*the store opened at 8:00AM and there was a line a city block long). I did get Ringo's new EP. The last one!
Great review as always. Glad I watched it AFTER playing my Glow-in-the-Dark EP as I wasn't expecting the beautiful 11 minute version of 'You Are Here' until it just kept on going. It's an amazing take which, as Andrew says, is not something that has been released in this form before. Going to play it again now. I think its going to have another life as a chill out classic. Just when you think you've heard everything...
Might have to pick this up. Black vinyl of course. Also not sure if you have seen but McCartney Legacy 2 is up for preorder on Amazon now with a release date of Tuesday December 10, 2024.
11 minutes of You Are Here! I love this song. I was not expecting that. So cool. Makes sense to put it on an EP then as it takes up a majority of a side, and I doubt it'll fit on the deluxe 2LP edition of Mind Games, making this EP essential if you want this long version on record. I'm the Greatest probably won't make the 2LP edition either, if disc 2 is just one alternate of each of the original album's tracks. I think the big box set will be CDs only, not a vinyl of the entire massive set, and then for vinyl, a single LP remix and deluxe 2LP. That's what Plastic Ono Band was if I recall. So this EP is actually really important for vinyl fans who want 11-min You Are Here, and the ultimate I'm the Greatest.
I am so glad these Ultimate sets are back baby! Hopefully the rest of John’s lps get the same treatment. Meanwhile, the waiting continues for more Archives…
Btw great video and review as always. I didn’t need any more incentive to look forward to this set, but this vid definitely added to the anticipation! I’m going to try to score a glow in the dark version Saturday
Thank you so much for your brilliant full review of the Mind Games EP. Really looking forward to the upcoming expanded release of one of John’s greatest albums of all time now☺️☺️☺️ and will definitely be adding the EP taster to my collection as well. Thank you again, Andrew!
Thank you very much for this! I bought the e.p. on RSD and was curious about what all of the differences were so I appreciate your insights. That being said, I absolutely love the record...sounds fantastic!
Thank you Andrew I've been listening to Mind Gam especially since 1973.It became one of my favorite solo John albums.I felt it was over shadowed by Ringo and Band on the Run.Intuition is my favorite.I think it sounded more like a Gilbert O'Sullivan song than a John Lennon song.
I picked up a black vinyl copy at my local shop today and it sounds great! What stands out to me is the presence of the pedal steel guitar on 'Aisumasen'. Beautiful! Can't wait to hear the entire deluxe edition in July.
Thanks Andrew! Mind Games was the first John solo album I ever owned. Got a cheap "mfp" version (I was 12 - that was all my pocket money ran to!). Still the only version I have. Been waiting for this since the deluxe editions started, and loved the Gimme Some Truth remixes. Definitely getting the deluxe edition. Not sure about the EP tho.
Thank you Andrew!! I got really surprised with Aisumasen, being my favourite track of the album. I agree it's a more "organic" verssion, the sound is clear and amazing. But in the other hand, the original reverb kind of gave it a certain mood that made it sound special, and that has gone in this remix. Luckily, we'll always have both mixes to enjoy :)
Nice clip Andrew, mind games my favourite John Lennon album ,first got this back late 1970's on cassette and still have it.Look forward to buying both ,keep up the good work 👍
Hi Andrew, I just finished a wonderful book on Yoko Ono that I think you might appreciate. It’s called In Your Mind, The Infinite Universe of Yoko Ono. It’s written by Madeleine Bocaro, and it has a lot of information about her remarkable life. It covers everything, including her love for John Lennon. It also dispels all the false information about Yoko, and sheds light on her personal journey for world peace.
Andrew, thank you for going in depth. Mazzy raved about how great it sounds, glad to hear you agree! I have always loved this album, and cant wait to hear it again for the first time!
I’m looking forward to the Mind Games box set. Recently somebody has donated mint copies of the books from the Imagine and Plastic Ono Band box sets to Loughborough’s branch of Oxfam. I snapped them up
Thanks for this Andrew. I think I may be investing in both the black and the glow in the dark vinyl come Saturday if I can. It seems to me they are taking the reverb off John's voice that he smothered it in when he made these records. (to my mind he was kind of self concious about the sound of his own voice, even asking George Martin to do something with his voice back in the Beatles days) I don't know why because he was one of the great vocalists of his time, just listen to how he harmonises with Paul on Rubber Soul for instance. I'm looking forward to these releases on Saturday and to the box set in the summer. Now I'm going to have to give my copy of the Lennon anthology a listen now, esp the mind games takes. By the way I recieved a copy of Supersonic by Oasis in the post this morning, a 7" single on coloured vinyl as part of their 30th anniversary celebrations for Definitely Maybe. Is it really 30 years since I first bought that incredible album?
Thanks Andrew, great video and always respect your reviews. Do you know whether all of these will be included in the vinyl release of Mind Games, especially the 11 mins version? They normally just put out a 2LP featuring the studio Ultimate Mix plus a disc of early/outtake versions. I'm more of a vinyl geek than CD, hence the question...thanks
Andrew My Friend how are you? Your review of the Mind Games EP is Fantastic I will be purchasing the Audiophile black it sounds fantastic and I will get the box set when it comes out , Andrew one question can this EP be purchased after RSD , on Johns official site ? Andrew MyFriend Takecare, Besafe, Blessyou, Steve
Thanks Steve, I guess that all depends on whether there are copies still available after Saturday! I'd be surprised if John's site sell it, probably more likely record stores selling it if they have remaining copies.
Thanks Andrew for the review. If I can't get the 180G edition here in NZ it won't matter as I can't wait for the box set to come outr. It sounds as if it is going to be awesome.
I was tempted to skip this release since Mind Games is the only Lennon album that never really clicked with me (other than his covers album), but after hearing what you've said, I think I will. I'll be getting the collector version since it won't get much play after the full set comes out.
Couldn't help myself, I was contented getting the luminous version but noticed my record shop had the black vinyl left today so purchased it, you're right Andrew, black does sound better.
Hey Andrew, definitely waiting for the mind games boxset. But what you have there is very cool. I've always considered mind games one of John's best albums in my opinion. Anyway Andrew great video and I can't wait to hear that 11 minute version of You are here.
I hope one day that Ringo album gets a super deluxe version as I've always considered it to be the closest thing to a Beatles reunion that we ever got. And next to All Thing Must Pass my favorite Beatles solo release.
How different is the Mind Games version to the Gimme Some Truth mix was my biggest question. Because the versions from Plastic Ono Band or Imagine were a bit more quiet than the ones on the compilation (as you said).
@@AndrewDixonMusic do you think that there will be the space, also, for some kind of Get Back expanded edition or it will be just the 1970 movie fully restored (without any additional content) given that we had Peter Jackson’s documentary which goes into much more details on January ‘69?
Good news tracks are in the main release too. Great review. Disappointed that anthology tracks at different speed! You can never tell what tinkering they get up to!
Dear Andrew, that was once again super interesting and thank you very much. I'm so divided as to whether I should really buy the Record Store EP, as the material will all be in the big box... Switching to Ringo: A few days ago you could buy Ringo Starr's new EP (Black Edition), but now it seems to be sold out everywhere? 🤨Do you know anything about it?
ill be buying the 2 cd edition as always when it comes out i like value for money the mind games E P ive seen priced at 27.99 looking forward to the price of the box set 6 cds i blue ray get ready for a shock fans
I would have expected the EP to contain the single version of Meat City (was the b-side of Mind Games), which is different from the album version. Hopefully it'll be on the box set. Play the backwards spoken part in reverse to hear them correctly so that the difference is clear. On the single version, he says, "buy the album." What he says on the album version I always took to be his way of letting us know the "feud" was over.
Thanks for this, but what do you think about The Beatles Let It Be on Disney+ 8th May restored from the 16mm by Peter Jackson?!!!!!!!!!!!!! DSisney have confirmed it does not feature the same footage from Peter's Get Back. Interesting.
One of John's most overlooked albums, Im glad that it's finally getting the attention it deserves!!! - although I do dislike the female backing vocals, the songs are Great!!! -also Andrew hearing the buzz about the Let it Be movie finally being released on Blu Ray???
Hi Andrew , I’m going to try my dam hardest to get both the mind games RSD EP’s , as I won’t be able to attend my local independent record store on Saturday v, as I’m working again on another record store day . Anyway do you plan to get Blur Parklife RSD 2024 Zoetrope vinyl ?
Good luck getting what you're wanting! I have Parklife already on regular black vinyl and I'm sure that will sound much better than a zoetrope so I won't be buying that.
@@AndrewDixonMusic Hi Andrew , well I have managed to get hold of both the John Lennon 12inch Mind games EPs , which I’m over the moon about , I got them online .
Both pressings use the same mixes and mastering, the glow in the dark has a little more surface noise between songs but barely noticeable once the songs start.
My very cool Dad gave me Mind Games when it came out. I was 10. I can't express how much I loved it and still do today. ill be buying the 2 cd edition as always when it comes out i like value for money the mind games E P ive seen priced at 27.99 looking forward to the price of the box set 6 cds i blue ray get ready for a shock fans
will be getting both eps and box set
I would have expected the EP to contain the single version of Meat City (was the b-side of Mind Games), which is different from the album version. Hopefully it'll be on the box set. Play the backwards spoken part in reverse to hear them correctly so that the difference is clear. On the single version, he says, "buy the album." What he says on the album version I always took to be his way of letting us know the "feud" was over.
Great review! Where did you order the "I fought the war for your sort" shirt? Thanks
Thanks. I got the t shirt from a guy online who only sold it for a short time unfortunately.
Very excited to hear,,I'm the Greatest...Anthology good, but some rubbish on,,,,need johns demos on a boxset in 5 years...
Most interesting. Thanks Andrew.
I'll be looking at the ultimate box set version. (No turntable - otherwise I'd be broke! 😂)
Thanks for this, but what do you think about The Beatles Let It Be on Disney+ 8th May restored from the 16mm by Peter Jackson?!!!!!!!!!!!!! DSisney have confirmed it does not feature the same footage from Peter's Get Back. Interesting.
Fantastic news! We've waited far too long for this.
@@AndrewDixonMusic I'm on the beatles mailing list, but if you google it, it tells you about it everywhere, Interesting times.
How do you get your rsd items so early...I'm jealous
These early tracks won't be on digital platforms right?
I believe you're correct there 👍
Have always thought Mind Games was a much better album than it was generally credited with being. Yes, I will be getting the EP and the box set.
One of John's most overlooked albums, Im glad that it's finally getting the attention it deserves!!! - although I do dislike the female backing vocals, the songs are Great!!! -also Andrew hearing the buzz about the Let it Be movie finally being released on Blu Ray???
Hopefully a Blu Ray/DVD release eventually, but seems to be to Disney streaming first
@@AndrewDixonMusic 👍✌️
A glow in the dark version- what will the marketing people think of next ?
The album version of “You Are Here” has a marimba on it, so maybe it was used on the Anthology version.
Mr mayo got 2.lucky you.!!!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
How does the audio quality compare between both pressings?
Both pressings use the same mixes and mastering, the glow in the dark has a little more surface noise between songs but barely noticeable once the songs start.
