    I ordered one and it came from China like you, and was delivered to rural western NC in 5 days! Fits like a champ. Had to remove the little triangle plastic piece but not the metal triangle on the strap attachment lug.

    I'm Thai. I have ordered a Nikon Z8 camera since it was confirmed by an insider. And this year I received the camera from 26/06/2023 after testing it for almost 1 month, it's a very good camera. especially the focus system and N-ras 12-bit video files in the same price model Nobody can bring down the Z8.

    I got mine yestreday and I find the battery access very dificult to impossible. Having very short nails makes it impossible to replace batteries. I also noted today that Smallrig does not offer it anymore.

    • @TomReplogle
      @TomReplogle  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, even without the L-bracket on it I find it difficult to open the battery compartment. Guess we need to leave one nail long.

    i can't find a L-Bracket for my very new Nikon Z8, Small ring selling to reseller only any option ??

    • @TomReplogle
      @TomReplogle  ปีที่แล้ว

      I purchased mine from their eBay store but I think other retailers sell them too. A quick Google search brought up Adorama and SmallRig's Store (smallrigreseller.com) as other options. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

    You must have had a very early version of the Z9 bracket. I have them on both of my Z9s and they both have that slot you demonstrate. I don't recall exactly when I bought the bracket but, it wasn't too long after the release of the camera and I had mine on the release date, Christmas Eve.

    • @TomReplogle
      @TomReplogle  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I was pretty early as well. The issue with the Z9 bracket was that it didn't rest on the lug which required using the split ring to help stabilize it. It may just be differences in manufacturing perhaps. Thanks for watching!

  • @agrnbrg
    @agrnbrg ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why an L-bracket? I find the bottom bracket by RRS to be very much easier to work with than an L-bracket. It's less bulky and doesn't block the doors on the left side.

    • @TomReplogle
      @TomReplogle  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      L-brackets allow you to mount the camera in the portrait orientation when using a tripod. Many heads allow you to rotate the head sideways for portrait orientation but the tripod is then off balance and camera is not on the center of rotation. An L-bracket allows you to mount centrally over the axis of rotation (think panoramas) and maintains better balance. If you need access to the inputs on the side, you can extend the L-bracket to make access easier. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

    It's not a big surprise it does not flex when you install it in a way it's always touching the body itself: it just can not flex. I'd like to see whether it flexes if you position the vertical part a bit away from the camera, something that comes in handy when you shoot tethered and need a way for you cable. My Smallrig Z9 L-bracket flexed A LOT ... like totally unusable

    • @TomReplogle
      @TomReplogle  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, I get that. My Z9 bracket flexed when not extended because it didn’t rest against the lug. I understand they fixed it on later versions and thankfully on the Z8 bracket as well. I don’t have my Z9 bracket anymore (use a rrs) but the Z8 bracket seems to have the same rigidity as the Z9’s so I expect it to flex when extended. I’ll check it out when I get back to the house today and let you know what I find. What bracket did you end up getting for your Z9?

    • @TomReplogle
      @TomReplogle  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I compared my RRS bracket on my Z9 to the SmallRig on my Z8 and the Z9 was a bit stiffer which makes sense since it's about twice the thickness. The Z8 bracket was surprisingly more stable extended than what I had thought. I seem to remember my Z9 SmallRig bracket flexing a whole lot more that the Z8 bracket does. I would say if you're shooting tethered in a studio, the Z8 bracket might just work for you. If shooting tethered outside, then I'd go with the RRS.

    Absolutely need this bracket, I love SmallRig's stuff. So two things - I don't love that it rests against the strap post (but maybe it's ok?), and HOW... how did you get the Peak Design anchor through the strap post?? I've tried on my Z6II and I have to attach it to the bracket (those strap triangles are immediately taken off).

    • @TomReplogle
      @TomReplogle  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Craig, thanks for subscribing! The fact that it rests against the post adds stability to it. My Z9 bracket didn’t, and there was some flex when shooting in portrait. The triangle split ring helped to stabilize the Z9 bracket. As far as the Peak anchor, it’s a thinner version. It may be an older design…not sure. The first anchors I tried wouldn’t fit. Thanks for watching!

    I just got my Z8. I have RRS gear however just talked to them it looks like months out for a Lbracket for the camera. In your opinion is this bracket the quality of RRS? Thanks

    • @TomReplogle
      @TomReplogle  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching! RRS gear is definitely a bit nicer than what SmallRig makes, but not sure it's 3-4x's the quality as the price reflects. Personally I think the SmallRig L-bracket looks fine and fulfills its function. Of course, it's completely a personal choice.

    I really like your color grading. You might not have autofocus issues per se, just your Tracking response too delayed.

      Thanks! I’d love to take credit for that color grading but it is straight out of camera. I shot it with the Fuji X-H2s using the “Classic Neg” in body film simulation. Also, you are absolutely correct…I had adjusted my tracking while shooting some other footage and forgot to change it back! Thanks for watching!
