I don't see people appreciating Goku and Piccolo's bond too often. Piccolo went from a ruthless demon king, reborn to exact revenge on Goku. To bonding with his son, and even bonding with him. And just as Goku himself said, Piccolo was always there to help him out. From being his arch enemy, to being his most trusted ally, even more than Vegeta i'd argue.
Like a true big half brother. Goku caused his birth. Piccolo Jr.

Piccolo has always been one of my favorite characters. In GT, the way he sacrificed himself to save the people of earth, then again to save Goku later while already dead felt so bittersweet. The writing for Piccolo was so good. While GT itself is a mixed bag, Piccolo's development is amazing. I absolutely love it.
And luckily it's the same for the other characters in GT too!

Someone sent this to me and said it was “someone talking about peak for 7 minutes”. Boy, was he right. I always loved Goku’s farewell to Piccolo but I never realized how incredibly written his character arc was. Thanks for the enlightenment.
Everyone felt so much more mature, really feels like the characters grew up.

Especially seeing the mature and advanced versions of them all, especially father Gohan
yeah they all grew up. Honestly the show wasn't that good but the ending was good. I think they could have done the show differently and give it the same ending and it would have been a really good show.
The Goku Jr epilogue with a dying Pan was really sad though. I loved that little episode and we also get to see Vegeta Jr. Really does a good job of making you miss the old Z characters like Roshi and Krillin

What makes piccolo and Goku’s interaction even more special is that piccolo has kami’s memories so he would remember training kid goku so it’s basically like he’s saying goodbye to his old student

Agreed. They did give other characters more to do in super than in GT, but at least GT remembered who they where beyond their fists

Chris Sabat and Stephanie Nadolnie really delivered and gave us such emotional anime moments no other anime could replicate. After seeing this again, just reminds me how awesome piccolo truly was in GT.
Shame that in DBZFighterZ we don't have Stephanie in the huge classic that is GT Goku, who's her character, perfect voice for it

We all got a canon (official continuity) to enjoy. I like all the shows. But I’d put gt above super. Super is enjoyable too. It’s got tons of plot holes, but so did the buu saga and I loved that.
i dont care what anyone says, GT will always be my favorite. that is the true successor to Z. id rather watch GT than super which is outrageous to say to some people, but theres just something about the animation that i love.
The character development is so great In GT, it really feels like what Super should have.
honestly I don't think it would've worked as well for Super due to the timeline placement being before the end of Z.

This solidifies why Piccolo is one of my favorite characters, aside from Tien. His sacrifice in GT chokes me up every time I revisit this show. He's always training and looks out for everyone. I'm glad they did him justice in HIS new movie, Super Hero. Just that he got it from a wish 😮💨 I can't wait to see what he does with his newfound power.

GT had strong moments that were outside people just fighting. A GT moment for me was Gohan working beside Bulma on the scientific development. It was a generation long wait from when Gohan declared to be a scholar and he was able to now team with the smartest person in the world to save lives.
His Death in GT has some meaning alot more than most give it credit for.
Much more than his death in Super that I'm sure most people forgot happend.

@@GreatExpectations787 Yeah I'd argue it's the worst death for a major character in the entire series. It's just a shameless re-tread of the Saiyan Saga of his first death.
Then it's just glossed over. He's basically the only person of the main cast to actually die in Super. If we don't count Earth blowing up from Frieza and having time re-winded like nothing happened.
His revival was even off-screen 💀

@@perreban DBS Vegeta just retreads his development in DBZ but worse because he already had that development before. DBS regresses Vegeta’s character just so they can do the same thing again. GT keeps his development from Z and adds to it.

GT is a far better sequel to Z than Super. GT for all its faults still respects the growth of its characters and treats them with the love and respect they deserve. Super shits all over our favorite characters and only focuses on giving them different color palettes for lazy new forms.

Piccolo's last goodbye to Goku is such a moment, really takes it back that they were the main rivals of the series, not Goku and Vegeta

@@dusk6159nearly. Side characters didn’t get many wins, it was just goku defeating everyone. And Vegeta (in terms of his fights) was mistreated in my opinion.
GT is an incomplete masterpiece in the making that was never really finished as it had many missed opportunities but still managed to tell a good emotional story.
The super manga has lower quality story telling to GT but has a better art style and fight scenes.
The super anime is the WORST out of all 3, but Vegeta’s tutelage of Cabba and his fights against Jiren and Toppo were amazing.

I think that despite the bad rep Dragon Ball GT gets it's a good show from what I've seen, I loved Super Saiyan 4 the more tranquil version of possibly the most recognizable theme in the series makes it clear just how different the form was to its predecessors, to me that form really feels like an evolution of both Super Saiyan and Great Ape
yeah it might be the worst dragon ball, but dragon ball is an amazing show, being the worst dragon ball is like being the worst ice cream, its still pretty good.

Piccolo's farewell to Gohan and his subsequent sacrifice, especially in the original Japanese dialogue and music, rent my heart like no other scene in all of fiction.
I prefer way more Piccolo barely appearing, but when he appers, have a big significance, than he appearing a lot, just to have a few fights, and ended up getting beaten at the end, like in DBS with piccolo vs frost, and pretty much all of piccolo in T.O.P, the way he got eliminated is horrible and makes no sense for the character, and the few fights he had wasn't even that good.
Piccolo’s sacrifice, in the end, literally meant nothing in GT. It didn’t change anything about the series going forward other than the fact that they had an excuse not to use Piccolo.
@@Q_Reeves Besides the fact that he played a major role in the android 17 saga. and made the other set of dragon balls become unavailable, which definetly helps a lot. sure, the other dragon balls still ended up causing problems, but imagine how worse it would be with both available, even worse with the other set destroying the planet.
@@banjo9158 His only major roles were dying and getting Goku out of Hell. As cool as that may sound, it’s very mundane and just a “Meh” way to write him out of the story.
The Black Star Dragon Balls shouldn’t even be a thing considering Piccolo and Kami fusing basically negated the existence of the main Dragon Balls. So, if they’re still linked to him, why did they not need to be reactivated but the main ones did?
All I’m saying though for the most part is Piccolo’s character didn’t amount to much in GT outside of being a forgotten sacrificial lamb.

that i somewhat agree, the black star dragon balls are a plot hole no matter how you look at it, but it's not a major issue to me, only if it ruined something i really like, a character for example, dragon ball did worse stuff before when it comes to retcons, and their existence only really ruined the original namekian, which is a character nobody give a shit.
although black star dragon ball existence being a plot hole or not, it does not erase the effects it have in the story, and piccolo.
and yes, piccolo didn't do much in GT, but i feel like, it's better this way, not only is leagues better Super like i previous mentioned, but i much prefer a character appeared few times and being more effective, than appearing just to be just a background character, or get beat up over and over.

Not every character needs to do a lot, sure, but at least give the characters the respect they're deserved. Piccolo's literal first appearance in the show was getting attacked by Baby-Gohan and never to be seen again until the end. That's a ridiculous handling of his character.
The Black Star Dragon Ball's existence practically ignored the meaning of Piccolo and Kami fusing. That was supposed to mean "No more Dragon Balls" until Dende came around to re-power the main ones. That should've had nothing to do with the Black Star Dragon Balls. Their existence, as far as I'm concerned, is contrived and just an excuse to kill off Piccolo.
I don't know about you, but Piccolo was getting beat up and treated like a background character way before Super came around. Even in the Cell Saga and ESPECIALLY in the Buu Saga. That's not something you can pin on DB Super. And even then, they've given him his flowers in various moments. Even in the manga as well. I would've never guessed Piccolo would've gotten a movie primarily catered to him until Gohan came around. That's more justice than GT ever gave him.
You know what? I'll even say this... Piccolo's involvement in the Super 17 saga was FORCED. There is no conceivable way they expected me to believe Goku couldn't have used Instant Transmission to get out of Hell. You and I both know he didn't need Piccolo for that. So Piccolo's involvement in every arc in GT is either meaningless or forced.
He literally does nothing but die in GT.

Having never gotten the time to watch GT and Piccolo already being my favorite character, this just makes him the best fiction character in my opinion.
Interesting take on GT Piccolo. Personally, it feels like GT didn't execute this sacrifice well since IMO those who grew with Piccolo since the beginning would see how powerful this moment is. GT on its own? This could've worked well if Piccolo was part of the main crew and we knew more about these balls over time to make the sacrifice hit harder even if it's not as shocking.
Regardless, nice to see why moments like these are beloved even if I'm in the minority on this. ^^

GT definitely had the best send off for Piccolo, which fit his character so well compared to how they use him in Super...
So a thing I like in GT that they did with Piccolo, although not on purpose, is they wrote out the characters that were being written to be written out of importance.
In the Saiyan-Saga: The humans were very clearly written to no longer be of relevance interms of power. They weren't useless, but they were no longer the top-dogs they were in OG.
In the Frieza-Saga: Krillian is outmatched by everyone. Piccolo fused with Nail, a not-random Namekian, and he was now able to compete with the top-dogs. However Zenkai boost had the Saiyans surpass him.
In the Cell-Saga: The humans were now utterly helpless. Tien could buy time with the Tri-Beam, but that was it. Piccolo fused with Kami to once again become the top-dog, and once again was overshadowed by the Villian powering up. he was still in the top 5, able to compete with Cell Jr.s unlike the humans. But it was made clear he was no longer relevant in battle, at least not in power.
In the Buu-Saga: All of the humans are one-tapped, and Piccolo is clearly not-able to keep up at all. Now I don't think base Goku/Vegeta/Gohan could have beaten Piccolo, but I do think as normal Super Saiyans alone Piccolo was cooked
we can clearly see that they are being written out of the story, interms of fighting. And while this is sad, it's a running theme in DBZ. In DBGT they continue this trend. Piccolo is not able to compete at all. But they still wrote him in a way where he was useful, just like krillan. And that's nice, the characters don't need to be the top dogs to be good/useful characters.
Then we have DBS where everyone get's random ass power increases and we completely forget the running theme in DBZ.

Thank you. I have said this before, and it has to be resaid a hundred times before it gets into the head of these loons. Piccolo's sacrifice is the perfect conclusion to his character. From someone born to kill Goku and enslave the Earth to someone who gave his life for Earth and life in Heaven just to help Goku.
GT had amazing story concepts; but the execution not so much. Black star dragon balls, baby, super 17, shadow dragons, and most importantly SSJ4. Imagine if they had the budget of super

Can say he was perfect. A proper fight with Baby Gohan should've happened. Him dying with Earth should've never happened. Him having proper fights against Hell fighters would've been nice.

i like those scenes but honestly piccolo should have a bigger role on baby's arc. At least some cool fight with baby gohan before dying because he didn't die and somehow goten is safe in home, what happens to piccolo? he just disappears! was he brainwashed by baby? or just choose to lie low forever? boo was with hercule in safety but where was piccolo? we do know namekians can get infected by baby because of dende but DBGT could at least bother to show us piccolo losing and get infected
