  • The Ruta de Los Volcanos hiking trail in La Palma (Canary Islands) is a spectacular ridge trail in the Cumbre Vieja. This trail takes you high up on the southern tip of the island of La Palma!
    You will be hiking high up on the island, passing some of Spain's most active volcanoes in the Cumbre Vieja volcano ridge.
    From the starting point in El Pilar this trail should take you 14km to the Deseada volcano and back to El Pilar if you would like to do this as a loop.
    The elevation gain is 750m, so this trail is moderately difficult.
    The views of La Palma are stunning!! Especially over the cloud of the ocean.
    Filmed in 4K.
    Here is the link to the description of the hike:

    Hey guys, would you tell me the name of the place from the spektakular view of the day at Timeline 6:40 please. I like to visit LaPalma too and make a timelapse of this wonderful clouds. Greetings from Germany and thanks for this nice video.

    Been there 8 times already. Actually you dont have to start from El Pilar. If you take a bus to the Caldera Information Centtre and cross the road there is a gap in the wall . Just cross the lava field and continue through the pine forest up to El Pilar..Adds on about two hours to the hike though. Wonder if you have hiked down from Roque Muchachos. Either side is spectacular but not for the faint hearted.

      Hi Gordon, thank you for the information. We tried to do the Roque Muchachos hike but it was closed at the time ( I think storm damage). I remember the Caldera Information Center - that would be a great hike extension to see more of the vegetation. Who knows if the volcano is going to erupt soon, we will follow the news! For sure an interesting place to live !

      Hi Agnieszka, Thank you! I agree it is the best hike on La Palma. Being above the clouds like that feels like flying, you don't even mind not seeing the ocean when you're up there. Wonderful place for sure, it's amazing how few people are hiking as well. I'm sure it is also because of Covid but Tenerife was a lot busier in the nature still :) Have a good weekend Manny & Molly

    You mention that you made it a loop. Are there more trails heading back to El Pilar, or did you just backtrack?

    Wunderbare Aufnahmen mit der Drohne! Fast meditativ. So erlebt man die Insel ja vom Boden aus nie! Darf ich fragen, wo der Punkt ist, der ganz am Schluß diesen phantastischen Blick über die Wolken ermöglicht hat? Auch ganz zu Anfang ist er kurz zu sehen.

      It's really fantastic how you are so high above the clouds there. Can't wait to go back. Hoping that not too many homes are going to be destroyed. The destruction of the previous eruptions is very impressive. Fantastic volcano discovery visitor center, where you can go inside the magma tunnels. La Palma is definitely worth it, much less crowded than Tenerife & the other islands.

    How close were you to the latest eruption ?

    • @RestlessRoamers
      @RestlessRoamers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd say we hiked about a half a mile away from the current eruption. When we returned from the trail we were a bit stupid and rode the small rental car down the mountain on a road that turned into a hiking trail. The only reason we didn't get stuck in the lava sand is due to the steepness of the mountain. It was scary, very stupid mistake haha. We drove ride over the current fissures, wish I had recorded it all. I have more footage from the area that erupted now, it was a steep, foresty area with very hard to walk on lava sand.

      @RestlessRoamers  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi David, we did it over two days to save money on the Taxi. Went up from Los Canarios one day and the other from El Pilar. Deseada volcano is a good halfway point to split it up. It's such a great place, really fantastic hiking

      @@RestlessRoamers ok .. the part at the beginning of the walk where you go up ..is it hard to go up or is a confortable rise?

    • @RestlessRoamers
      @RestlessRoamers  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@spac4st It is quite a comfortable rise in elevation, there is nothing too steep. If you stick to our plan it should be easy and you will avoid going straight up the volcano. This steep trail was closed when we did it anyway.

    • @RestlessRoamers

      Some parts are steep and scary, you could loose balance for sure but the vast majority of this trail is really simple with very easy climb gradients. Altitude not an issue either yet
